Just to add to this - if you saw the stream already, this brief overview article contains a few tidbits on some of the key improvements made from your feedback since the stream, as well as when you'll see them in action (soon!).

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback - here in our threads and your own, on Discord, Twitch chat, Twitter and so on. All of it was captured and turned into reports. The team are so enthusiastic about your response and can't wait to show you more.

Cool.

Firstly - can i make my guy fat?

Secondly - can we have 'plain' clothes? ie. none of those blacksmithy straps / belts etc. just a plain cloth top and bottom? (like the typical 'bot' outfit on OSRS)

The feedback on this is very much with the team and something we're considering for the future.

Right now, this project is focused on delivering this new fidelity by refreshing what already exists in the character creator rather than additions. That'll give us a foundation to build from and potentially unlock body types or other changes in the future.

We're not at any point to commit to anything outside this project right now, but the team have a ton of ideas of where we could take Player Avatars next if the opportunity arises.

"You'll still be able to use all the cosmetics you've collected so far at their original fidelity." Please tell me this is just a stopgap thing, and that it does not mean old outfits will never be updated to the new graphical standard. Runescape needs to homogenize its overall quality standard, and continued mixing of low and high fidelity assets is just going to look horrible in the long run, which it already does.

This update is really designed to be foundational - something we can build from in a variety of different ways - but most importantly it's about proving it can be done in the existing systems. In other words, we want to get it out there for real!

To do that, the team are keeping the scope to something substantial but focused. For us to touch every asset in the game across 20 years of history, that's a huge addition to the timeline - especially if you consider we need to establish what we're doing now anyway before those assets can even be touched. (And any assets released while the project is in development add to that pile).

That's not to say we won't ever do that, just that this is the committed project we're able to communicate about today. Once this is delivered, there's tons of ways the team could go - from your feedback to completely reworking and modernizing the technical aspects of the avatar system, more customization features and so on.

There's nothing set in stone we can communicate or promise beyond this project today, but the team are building this with so many possibilities in mind on how we could go further with it in the future.

I expect that what's being worked on is only the outfits you see in the character creator as of right now. Past cosmetics will remain the same and retro outfits will remain the same is my best guess from what I'm seeing from their responses.

What I also get from this is that these new outfits will probably not mesh well with previous overrides and much less the retro ones. Prepare for a lot of people wearing the same sort of stuff that works well on the new avatar for a long time.

You are correct on the first paragraph - what's outlined in the post is the scope of the Player Avatar Refresh that will be first delivered into the game. That's not to say we won't go further (like Iroh mentioned on stream, there's tons of thoughts there), but the focus is on this tangible delivery and going from there.

On your point about things meshing well, we'll see if we can show that system off on a future stream so you can provide thoughts and feedback on it.
