Saw a few people getting timed out on the Twitch channel for asking about it. Guess it's a bit of a sore topic?
General timeline was:
Update comes into the game alongside nothing else. No patch notes or anything.
Community riots about more MTX being added.
Mod Osborne comes on Reddit to try and calm the community, promising it's just a trial to see whether it could potentially replace other MTX in the game. Promises a blog on it within weeks (can't remember exact date).
Weeks pass, still no blog. Osborne said he wasn't happy with the initial blog so was in the process of rewriting it himself.
Weeks pass, still no blog. Osborne said other people (investors I believe, but for obvious reasons was never confirmed) weren't happy with his take on it. Would be rewriting it.
Months pass. Still no blog.
Starting to believe it was only deemed a "temporary test" after they saw the outrage among the community.
