I won't give a full review yet, but:

The lore, music, and visuals were all great. The gameplay had some really great moments especially with Erebus, but the flow kept being interrupted by talking to NPCs in 5 different areas and repeating the same key points.

As for post-quest content and continuity on the game world, it feels like a complete joke and a slap in the face. 0 design and 0 effort thrown into it.

Hey ImRubic,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. It will be great to hear more about "post quest content". What don't you like? Thank you in advance!

Is there anyone else thinking that what we currently think are the rewards, are not? I feel like there is no way the rewards would be some very, VERY slow xp after a GRANDMASTER quest.

I also just took a review of the stream they did on Friday and Mod Shrike was afraid of giving out spoilers from the rewards and the only spoiler that I could think of right now would be that the materials for the base camp on Anachronia can be used to gain xp which hardly sounds like a spoiler at all to me.

Me saying this is also me kind of expecting something "great" from Jagex which I have learned not to expect - but at the same time this just can't be it.... Can it?

Thank you for sharing your feedback. If I may ask... what else would you like to see (speaking of rewards)?

I also want to add that the next two updates will require "Extinction" as a prerequisite.

Hi Miva,

As many other people have pointed out on reddit the rewards are very lacking for what is expected from a Grandmaster quest. Other than a few occasions, past grandmaster quests offered a significant reward which changed how people played the game whether its through skilling, combat, or access to areas which provide other benefits. Many of those rewards are super relevant to this day.

Here's a quick summary of significant non-xp rewards from other Grandmaster quest:

Past Grandmaster Quest Rewards

Quest Year Reward
While Guthix Sleeps 2008 Tormented Demons (new dragon items), Elite black armour, Dagon'hai robes, access to various areas
Nomad's Requiem 2010 Soul Wars cape, Soul Wars respawn point, new Bloodwood tree
The Void Stares Back 2010 Korasi's sword, Elite void knight top, ability to upgrade void knight armour
Ritual of the Mahjarrat 2011 Bane Ore, Storm of Armadyl, Akrisae the Doomed, Glacors, new Bloodwood tree, Rune dragons (partial req)
The Brink of Extinction 2012 Obsidian Armour creation, Fight Cauldron
The World Wakes 2013 5 Ultimate combat abilities
Birthright of the Dwarves 2013 3 Dragon weapons, Chaos giants, Lava Flow Mine benefits
One of a Kind 2014 Dragon rider amulet, Celestial Dragons
Fate of the Gods 2014 Shard of Zaros, Freneskae (Muspah/Nihil creatures and Elder energy), Rune dragons (partial req)
Plague's End 2014 Trahaearn exoskeleton set, Prifddinas access
The Light Within 2015 Seren spells, Seren prayers, Tarddiad skilling and slayer creatures.
River of Blood 2016 Sunspear, Blood essence creation
Children of Mah 2016 Shard of Mah, Nightmare creatures, Ancient memories (Cache D&D)
Sliske's Endgame 2016 Skilling items (hunter/runecrafter/farmer Catalyst fragment, Ring of Whispers, Nekclace of Shadows)

Despite this, the first Grandmaster quest in over 5 years for perhaps the most impact quest series to date gives us an afk non-resource skilling method which is heavily timegated and doesn't offer competitive rates in a portion of the skills.

From the newspost we were told:

  • Access to high-tier resource-limited rates in six skills: Fletching, Hunter, Herblore, Crafting, Construction and Fishing. Anachronia base camp resources can be used for skilling. This is also repeatable content (10 hours of activity)!

Yet there's no resource and the repeatable content of 10 hours of activity is false.

In Summary

The rewards:

  • Aren't on the same scale as past grandmaster quests.
  • Don't match the description which was provided.
  • Heavily timegated
  • And there was no hint in-advance of subsequent rewards coming in the near future.

Reward Suggestions

Many players have suggested various ideas which make the skilling activities benifical whether it be new fish, which can then be turned into new food, and then have new effects in combat. Or new materials which can be used to create new ammo or new potions. There are also quality of life suggestions such as teleports or buffs to existing content like dragon rider gear.

The playerbase just wants good immersive gameplay, and today's rewards aren't remotely near what was deserved.

Thank you. Really love how constructive this message is.
