559s | identified the absolute core problems in |
561s | fixing your your input was that we would |
564s | lift the requirement that it had to have |
565s | all the additional stepping stones yeah |
567s | so we lifted that as a requirement from |
568s | the project and then made essentially |
570s | one the simplest change we could to fix |
573s | each of the problems that remained so |
577s | it's minimal changes we have we have a |
579s | couple of extra points based on feedback |

648s | passionate that we'll never get those |
650s | opinions to meet and so really we have |
652s | to start developing now but yeah I |
657s | wouldn't say it's hard and Stonewall |
658s | we're still going to we're still looking |
660s | for feedback we're still looking for |
661s | kind of things that we may have missed |
662s | up man mistaken or not had you know |

741s | moment yeah exactly so we like the |
743s | suggestion of golden halo yeah yeah I |
744s | don't see why we can't get the title as |
746s | well yeah well I mean the title is I |
749s | mean title and halo is better than just |
751s | titled yes when you look at it from the |
754s | scenario I do imagine and we'll see what |
757s | the chat say but I do imagine some of |
759s | them were going about a fallow or and so |

788s | it's a comp or trim out two votes above |

794s | the plan that we have is because it |
797s | isn't our intention to make them easier |
799s | this update that we want to add salty |
801s | sandy and EIU IO which is broadly |
805s | speaking complete the arc complete men |
807s | of the cell and complete the player and |
809s | farm at all of those to trim okay so not |
813s | to replace castle walls cuz that implies |
815s | it's like a one-for-one swap but just to |
816s | demonstrate that we are willing to add |
818s | more to trim now that's the point we're |
820s | not getting rid of cause it's in easier |
822s | we're getting rid of yes about it does |
823s | fit in with the completionist exactly |
826s | scenario never added and there's a very |
828s | strong feeling that they should have |
829s | been added I think there's a general |
830s | perception that with the changes we are |
832s | made we are making is in an attempt to |
835s | make comport trim easier which is not |
837s | the case if that all of these changes |
837s | that we are making is where the |
839s | long-term intent to make them you know |
843s | more complete more complete I guess yeah |
845s | rather than harder I'm in that by |
847s | removing the stats by pushing rebrov et |
849s | cetera we can now with every update we |
852s | produce with real confidence and with |
853s | true guidelines attach achievements to |
855s | them yeah so that over time we can have |
859s | something that is truly hard to achieve |
860s | is Commission its oriented that kind of |
862s | thing so actually everything we're doing |
863s | is to make them inverted commas harder |
866s | over time so while I'm understanding |
867s | here is based on the suggestions of |
869s | additions there's skilling stuff mmm as |
871s | the consideration of Reaper for trim |
873s | being fought about at all we're thinking |
875s | about it I don't I don't want to add |
877s | that at this stage we still we still |
879s | need to laugh I'm accuracy it's because |
882s | of the problem with the bosses we need |
884s | to look at that that some people have |
885s | asked for example 100 percent is on trim |
891s | and like does that make sense but we got |
893s | sure though that's the point about this |
895s | version of the design we're trying to |
896s | make the minimal number of changes |

899s | we can look at it we can launch it we |

905s | would like to handle Reaper but that's a |
908s | much more complicated long-term project |
909s | that isn't just shuffling achievements |

913s | conversation at the time about not |
915s | understanding the bridge that we put |
917s | forward a lot of kind of criticism that |
920s | we were on making incremental changes |
921s | rather than large change large changes |
924s | those that criticism was coming up a lot |
925s | but fundamentally for me |
927s | is absolutely so important that |
930s | achievement is one of the simplest |
931s | things in the game |
932s | for achievement have value other people |
934s | need to understand what it is and if you |
936s | get to a state whereby people have a |
937s | number of different achievement states |
938s | and you can't recognize it then that |
940s | devalue you know that means that I can't |
943s | represent my achievements to others say |
945s | laps players come in say new players |
946s | coming they don't recognize what you've |
947s | done and that is problematic for |
949s | achievement so that was a big driver |
952s | yeah there's a powerful piece of feed |
954s | work there I guess that if I've got one |
955s | of 15 capes on I can go look up on a |
958s | chart what that cape is and what its |
959s | Rukia |
960s | but if it's trim its running we were |
961s | confident that we could achieve that |
963s | with the design that we had but yeah |
965s | there are there are still problems and |
968s | risks they attach that so you think |
971s | there's a little bit that this slight |
973s | bit of confusion come from the fact that |
974s | maybe we didn't finalize the design |
975s | obviously at the point we were still on |
978s | board doing that design we was still |
979s | also making changes and stuff do you |
981s | feel like if the design was if we said |
984s | this is the final design now the |
986s | confusion might have gone away I don't |

992s | would have cleared up some things for |
993s | people it might have won some people |

1031s | reap rewards are they get brought up |
1032s | again and again and again yeah so I mean |
1035s | one of the core things that we're |
1037s | looking at for this year is new ways for |
1039s | a player to achieve that isn't going to |
1040s | go away |
1041s | we still want that and part the reason |
1042s | why we're doing this update so with each |
1044s | update we produce there could be more |
1045s | achievements and requirements that |
1046s | probably it stuck record they're they're |
1048s | all going still going to be new ways |
1050s | that you could represent yourself it's |
1051s | just that this is so core this is this |
1053s | is achievement in runescape it needs to |
1056s | be very simple yeah |
1059s | do we see I mean I know the capes are in |
1061s | concept it but they are we not seeing |
1064s | them full stop now just to clarify the |
1065s | whole problem |

1069s | things have come up for example like you |
1071s | know there was a what in that update |

1075s | their achievements like for example 5.4 |

1140s | least very minor ly so really we don't |
1143s | want to lose that team you know we want |
1145s | to get them working I wanted to be |

1149s | project for so long that they haven't |
1151s | had their not being their fair share to |
1153s | do other things for the game right |
1154s | that's it so and we want the other the |
1157s | rest of the game to benefit not suffer |

1225s | it or exactly it was someone having to |

1238s | there a consideration to tone down the |
1240s | value needed to get that requirement |

1245s | which like any amount of standing around |

1250s | perhaps perhaps other achievements that |
1251s | you could question on that basis but |
1253s | again it's in terms of its simplicity |

1258s | understand that as a rule of thumb for |
1260s | this year I would say that we are trying |
1262s | to design things instead of trying to |
1265s | design things as if we were going to be |
1266s | designing them from today Casa Wars if |
1269s | we were going to if we're going to rock |
1270s | completely crater completion ism system |
1272s | create a complicate we would not have |
1273s | put that on there and part of that kind |
1276s | of deviation and shift is that we want |
1277s | it to you know be bolder and remove |
1280s | things that wouldn't be there if we're |

3111s | made the procedural system in park for |
3114s | what was originally a reward we're |
3117s | looking at and we eventually decided fit |
3119s | didn't quite reach we want to do but we |
3122s | also in are hoping to potentially use |
3124s | that sort of puzzle stuff again in the |
3125s | future |
3126s | we've got quite any idea for something |
3129s | that we're working on the moment and |
3132s | modern lives to make these procedural |
3134s | system make these these things you can |
3136s | just reuse and it was basically as quick |
3140s | to build it that way as it was to make |
3142s | them bespoke what we it's a really |
3146s | clever little system because it account |
3148s | it works differently where it works the |
3149s | same but it's got special things based |
3151s | on different languages and localization |
3153s | things as well so there's different |
3154s | items that the other local other |
3157s | languages get so it has everything will |
3160s | line up and walk that's really neatly |
3161s | particular there's a really good |
3164s | question ishow which I like that which |
3165s | is what is your most favorite or most |
3166s | enjoyable part of this quest while |
3168s | developing for it I was so pleased with |
3172s | an arrogance section I mean I know I was |
3174s | so pleased to Howard it lined up the |
3177s | whole thing and getting gothic to look |
3178s | at his corpse elf and then say maybe I |
3181s | was a terrible person who's like yes you |
3183s | were |
3184s | I was so pleased that I'm a horrible |
3187s | person but and the best part though was |
3189s | getting Maude camel to play through it |
3193s | he lifted just turned away I hate you |
3194s | you I remember in the very in a very |
3199s | first sprint for that quest you uploaded |
3202s | an image in our chat rooms and it was |
3205s | the image of go fix with the mouse over |
3208s | sex kill graphics and that was all you |
3210s | needed to do really people just like I |
3214s | hate you you're a horrible person which |
3218s | only make me go worse |
3219s | I mean streamable content right now I'm |

3258s | spoiler his model was changed as well |

3270s | things I think that we we've decided |
3273s | about the last few years of quest is |
3274s | that somewhere along the way we feel |
3275s | like we've lost the tone of runescape a |
3277s | little bit and the runescape always had |
3279s | a fairly unique quirky humorous tone and |
3283s | I think we felt that as we've translated |
3285s | transition more into epic fantasy |
3286s | although we're happy with the epic |
3288s | fantasy aspect we feel like there hasn't |
3290s | been enough of there in scaped oh yeah |
3291s | the human that has been there has been |
3292s | extremely dark there hasn't been much of |
3295s | the sort more lighthearted and I think |
3296s | we felt very much the pieces of hey got |
3299s | that home a lot better so the question |
3302s | was how can we bring that tone in |
3305s | general without context without |
3307s | disrupting without and we did all the |
3310s | weird a lot of discussions about what |
3311s | he's really a stone how should it be |
3312s | what are some examples you know should |
3315s | it be multiplied from the holy grail is |
3316s | that where we go |
3317s | you know or should it be what's the |
3319s | least humorist film I can think of is |
3321s | probably the machinist which is |
3323s | absolutely miserable from start to |
3324s | finish and obviously somewhere between |
3326s | those two experience right and then we |
3329s | and then we were saying like is it is it |
3330s | fundamentally a silly is the story silly |
3332s | we know that the story is about |
3334s | appeasing the Elder Gods that's the |
3336s | story we've been told that were telling |
3337s | should we make that fundamentally silly |
3340s | and we were discussing like either the |
3341s | silly version of that story is the other |
3343s | gods never said how they wanted to be |
3344s | appeased what if they were if they just |
3347s | want you to put on a musical show yes |
3350s | this is good we tell could we tell that |
3352s | story would that be appropriate or |
3354s | inscape and ultimately we decided no |
3355s | that would be like the story itself |
3357s | being silly isn't appropriate for it |
3359s | what's important is that the story is a |
3361s | serious story but the tone is I feel |
3365s | like if you can find that life |
3367s | personally speaking I may be completely |
3369s | wrong but if you can find that |
3370s | seriousness tone with a little bit of |
3373s | like absurdness yeah well like I think |
3376s | end game did that really well personally |
3378s | I think yeah as an extent what kind of |
3381s | what we tried to do with with doing this |
3382s | in that we we had a serious story like |
3385s | it's quite a serie storyline like |
3386s | there's you know an evil dragon there's |
3389s | these rising Elder Gods in there but we |
3391s | want we had these two companion |
3393s | characters Karason thought that deliver |
3397s | it in this kind of of daft way so |
3399s | thought is very kind of over to you me |
3402s | he's that that's a very righteous person |
3405s | I'm a Viking I will go and punch things |
3407s | to her I'm not very smart but it doesn't |
3409s | matter because Thor at this description |
3411s | and Karras is much more he's still |
3417s | humorous but he's a kind of more we were |
3420s | pitching kind of Lucifer and Loki is |
3422s | kind of references for cos that kind of |
3424s | things so it's they're kind of still |
3425s | humor but it's kind of mocking humour so |
3427s | it plays off neatly with thought yeah |
3429s | they're both quite humorous characters |
3431s | but they're very different to each other |
3432s | yeah and so we deliberately brought them |
3435s | both in this and broke the board |
3436s | together so that we can set them up for |

3538s | was an original pitch was someone we |
3542s | still like the makeover mage oh yeah |
3547s | how would you then change would you then |
3550s | sorta cauldron and but we decided I |
3556s | didn't really quite work he didn't have |
3557s | any kind of story impact and we looked |
3560s | back through you know the various |
3561s | characters naturally well doe works |
3563s | perfectly yeah like everyone's |
3566s | interacted with him they've done all the |
3567s | quest it you know get there to him |
3569s | people go and chat with him he's a nice |
3571s | enough person but he's not like changing |
3574s | him isn't gonna fundamentally completely |
3575s | destroy the game or change any major |
3577s | things we don't have a billion different |
3579s | things aside into him he's relatively |
3581s | easy to |
3583s | I think I kept wanting it to be someone |
3585s | ridiculous by cocaine talked out of it I |
3588s | think he what is my exam Iraq or |
3590s | something someone really disruptive that |
3595s | just messes the game yeah we talked |
3597s | about there are technical considerations |
3598s | as well like it we do have to be careful |
