Can someone confirm the way herb bags are now intended to work.

I can put 500k noted herbs in the bag with a single click but if there are say 200 of a herb in there and I want to put one more in it tells me that there are too many of that herb.

Can I get something solid on its intended use as being an ironman bank space is at a premium but I dont want to lose my herbs by storing them in the bag.
