Hey all, we're trying out something new, so let us know if you thing summary posts like these are useful!

about 5 years ago - /u/Shaunyowns - Direct link

So couple comments from me:

  • We have TL;DWs already is this not duplicating the information that Rubic/Suity themselves put out?
  • With these being a news post I assume these need translations, we see TL;DWs hours after streams on Tuesday, if Rubic/Suity aren't doing these anymore how soon do we expect to see these posts after a stream?
  • I like the post, but I personally enjoy Rubic/Suity's take on them, just my two cents.

EDIT: Some other bits that have come to mind

  • Already it feels like this post is quite a lot to read, I'd even say this could be TL;DR'd.
  • How will points that are negative (because there will be some) be addressed on these?

However... apart from that it's nice to see it as a RS news post, more visibility versus Reddit/Discord the better! I just hope there's quick turnarounds on these.

Even of its duplicative it's nice to see it communicated anyways. Not everyone uses Reddit or Discord. Shauny you were there front and center for a lot of bad communication things. Having this on the news page is good.

I said in my original post having it on the front page is what this needs, but what concerns me with RS news posts is that we won't see these until Wednesday, maybe Thursday due to translation time for the other languages.

I'm all for it, but these need to come out very quickly after the stream otherwise TL;DWs will still take precedent on these, just my two cents.

100% agree. Players are constantly telling the community managers we want a consolidated area for information to be released officially. This is an amazing move by Jagex and I hope they keep it up.

Agreed, the Wiki proposed using a Social Feed to consolidate and centralise all the useful information that's come out officially.

My opinion? This is about 9 days too late... the community gets things like this done with hours. I know things need translation etc... but still this is incredibly slow

This is a prototype and if we were to do this more often, we would ofcourse want a much faster turn around. I'd be thinking Thursday/Friday latest.

Keep in mind that this will probably be more useful for the newer / less informed players who don't watch streams.

Rubic & suity's TL:DW's will still be important and have their own audience. Their TLDR's appeal to the highly engaged/informed players as well as providing a very quick overview of what has been discussed (even Jmods read them in the mornings) within a very short window (often less than an hour). These news posts cater more to newer / less engaged players and tell them about what is going on at the moment. Additionally these are translated so they are useful for players that speak Portuguese, french and german but not english.

With these being a news post I assume these need translations, we see TL;DWs hours after streams on Tuesday, if Rubic/Suity aren't doing these anymore how soon do we expect to see these posts after a stream?

I'd like to aim for Thursday or Friday latest.

How will points that are negative (because there will be some) be addressed on these?

I think if we're talking or saying something about any topic and it's of interest to the community, I expect we'll communiticate it here, both good and bad. In all fairness I think it will only help actually putting it on writing.

The news post is well done although its very far from what we are used to.

It feels like a huge wall of text.
There are no key points that people should get hyped about.
There are no embedded images, gifs either which doesn't help its case.
The whole reason the TL;DW's were made because its too long to watch. So instead now we need to find someone to make a Tl;DR for the TL;DW.

We have no intention to be a competitor to Rubic's or Suity's TL:DW's. we informed them about this before and our intentions too. They should rather complement each other, if at all.

The feedback about it being too long we'll take on board!

I don't mind the duplicity (so long as it isn't detracting from other things), but a less engaged player isn't going to read through those blocks of text. I try to stay informed and even I don't want to read through it. I really do like having an additional source of information from the streams for those that don't like to watch, but if you're after those that aren't super engaged, you're going to lose them with this.

Similar to the current TL;DWs, they need to be concise, and get straight to the point. The format you have for patch notes seems like a great fit for this type of information (categorized, bullet-ed, etc...).

Some other feedback on this, for things like Solak Scaling which is listed, it would be nice to have the actual changes being made linked/posted there in an official capacity. Same goes for other changes, like a design doc for upcoming changes, etc... It's a great way to formalize information instead of telling someone "they said XYZ on stream at some point".

As an aside, players really do need a way to read these things in-game. Being linked out of game can be a turn-off for many players (especially mobile users). If you can incorporate Patch Notes into a readable view in game, porting these types of posts there too would be great.

Thanks for the extensive message.

Thank you for the feedback. As Poerkie has mentioned this is a prototype and not meant to detract away from any TL;DWs. We can't (nor would we want to) compete with those things on Reddit - it's intended to be for those who perhaps don't use Reddit as a primary platform.

We do get asked a lot to put this information on the website, so this is the first step. Generally the feedback has been that it's too long - which is fair enough - so we'll take a look at the process and see how we can improve it (and make it faster!)
