Alrighty,

The clip itself I was trying to summarise everything that took place.

There was a lot of discussion on the refunds on stream itself and it highlights problems that I think I mentioned on stream, I can't recall specifically so do correct me if needs be.

  • The sigil refund was originally announced on Twitch
    • This is what we wanted to go with at the time we announced it (prior to the GCD feedback changes we made)
  • Then we announced an updated change on an edited reddit post which showed the GCD feedback changes
    • It should be mentioned that this change was circulated across Twitter, Facebook, Discord
  • We then added an additional comment where we went back on this and went back with what we originally announced.

Just writing this already is confusing and isn't ideal and I understand that entirely.

I'm going to ask internally if we can shift our news post policy to focus on potential situations like this, it isn't quite that simple as the news posts themselves have to go through the process to get it out.

At the very least keeping stuff like this centralised to RuneScape.com makes much more sense compared to being spread out on social media sites where at times it relies on word of mouth to get out there as even in retrospect this change wasn't included on the site which isn't ideal.

So yeah, I wanted to answer it on stream with the answer which I've been told internally which was no refunds from the update itself but at the same time try to explain it to try and make sure the chat wasn't being ignored.

Maybe you guys could have given everyone a warning on login?

You spam us all the time with th event tokens that are going to dissapear in 2 weeks...

To be honest this is the time we could have considered seeing what we could do with some sort of login message prior to it and especially with something contentious as this but it just wasn’t identified and that of course is frustrating.

Even the newsppst could have helped as you’d see the original text for it the lobby, etc.

Bleh :/

There's a stark difference between making a patch/changing an interface vs. taking (in this case, very expensive) items away from players, and refunding them.

Given the revised refund (which was edited on an existing comment) wasn't a pro-rata refund nor a full refund regardless of charge, it made it incredibly unfair for any player who hadn't gone back to the old thread and read that edited comment (especially after first reading it). Let alone anyone not on Reddit.

As others have said, you're able to send broadcasts to any player about event currencies disappearing, but can't provide an in-game tooltip on changes. I would highly suggest (in addition to making news/blog posts on the official site for these changes), add an in-game tooltip on upcoming changes like this (similar to how the effects for the Summer Escapes are included in the event tab).

Create an in-game message + have a way to read the important facts in game (full details on main website).

TL;DR Social media should be used to promote/spread the word on updates, but shouldn't be the sole source of them. Use your Main Website and in-game tools to notify players of upcoming changes.

First of all thank you so much for the effort in this comment!

I’ll skip straight to the TL;DR.

  • I agree with a main website notice a news post I think covers that
  • As for In-game I have an idea for what we can do for it but I need to ask about it for specifics
  • The broadcasts about the event currencies are messages plugged in way ahead of time so they just fire at a certain date so they aren’t manually broadcasted in that regard

Again thank you for this!

A warning on login is exactly what you (not your personally but Jagex ofcourse) should've done with this update. The communication about this was extremely poor and this has lead to an obvious backlash.
People deserve to know what will happen to stuff on their accounts especially if it is being removed entirely.

What also bothers me is how big of a disaster the update was on its own. It's almost not possible to believe that this update was tested because literally everything that was broken was obvious in the first few minutes.

Combine these two factors and it's not a surprise to see how much frustration there is about this update.

I will not dispute the update frustration for sure, coming back today and seeing what had happened was a bit of a woah okay.

Frustration internally was very high as you can imagine because we are passionate about what we do and to see what went wrong wasn’t ideal whatsoever :(
