126s goes from level 138 up to level 152.
132s the main antagonist of the necromancy
134s skill is the first necromancer
138s a powerful ancient Necromancer who's
141s resurfaced time and again through
143s history and this time they've taken a
145s special interest in you the first
147s Necromancer has attacked Gilmore's
149s Underworld the city of um where it's
151s enthralled its Spirits the player must
153s work with old and new characters to
154s master necromancy on the journey that'll
156s take you across skin lot across the city
158s of um to help you free the spirits and
160s defeat the fast necromancer
164s Necromancer has been designed in a way
166s where it is accessible to all player
168s types if combat's something you'd like
170s to do more of but at the moment you find
171s the barrier to entry is a bit high for
173s the existing Styles The Necromancer is a
175s perfect way to actually get started on
176s it not only will there be lots of
178s tutorials about how to use necromance
179s abilities and to do combat in general
181s but with the upgrade system that we have
183s we'll be able to upgrade your way
185s through the tiers or its tier 90 by
188s doing necromancy narrative story content
190s on the other hand for players who take a
192s more active approach to combat
193s necromancy will reward you for your
195s skill and your knowledge and your
196s activity as you level through the skill
198s you'll get access to more complex and
200s challenging encounters that's one of the
201s key elements of necromance is making
202s sure that it's approachable it has those
205s deep systems for those who want it but
206s it is rewarding for you to master at the
208s end up even though necromancy is a
209s combat skill if you don't want to engage
211s with combat at all you will still be
213s able to level it out of combat using
214s rituals rituals are our skinning
217s component of necromancy where you can
218s just do rituals all the way to level
220s 120.
224s for us on necromancy a community is
226s extremely important we've worked with
227s content creators brought them into the
229s office got them to play necromancy given
232s their feedback to make sure that before
234s release necromancy is as good as it can
236s be this isn't a one and done release
238s we're going to continue taking on the
240s player feedback we want to make sure
242s that the skill is as enjoyable for our
245s wider player base we want the community
247s to be involved heavily with this
253s foreign
255s style that features its own new
258s equipment weapons incantations and
261s abilities necromancy sits outside the
263s combat triangle this means it's neither
264s weak nor strong against magic ranged or
267s Manic the necromancer's main hand weapon
269s the death guard is required to use
271s necromancy abilities this is where
273s you'll be mainly using your abilities
274s skill damage from Far while you also
277s have the spirit Lantern the offhand
278s which is required to conjure creatures
280s from the underworld such as skeleton
282s Warriors futured zombies or ghosty rips
284s the country Spirits only last for a
286s certain amount of time during combat but
287s you want to try and make sure that we
288s keep them alive for as long as you can
290s because as they progress through combat
291s they can't potentially increases and
293s they'll be able to do more and more
294s damage
297s your next fancy abilities such as your
299s conjures or even just your regular
300s attacks will consume adrenaline however
303s we also have incantations which will
305s require necromancing runes one of the
307s incarnations available to you is bone
309s Shield this allows you to use defensive
310s abilities without requiring a shield we
312s are also introducing four new runes but
314s room the spirit Rune the flesh room and
317s the miasma room these are all required
319s for necromancy incantations and can be
321s crafted in the Underworld while some
323s abilities are unlocked just from
324s leveling others are only unlocked via
326s our new system known as talents as you
328s engage in necromancy combat you will
329s learn Talent points by performing
331s rituals you will gain access to more
333s talents as you gain access to more
334s talents you will have to make a choice
336s about what you want to unlock now but
338s once you've mastered the skill you'll
339s have unlocked everything
343s in necromancy there's a brand new way to
345s upgrade your equipment we don't want to
346s waste your time by making low-to
348s equipment because you'll be blasting
350s through those levels quite quickly so
352s within net commandency you can upgrade
353s the very first pieces of equipment you
355s get given after the tutorial this
357s equipment goes from Level 1 to level 90.
359s it is not as simple as going to the
361s Grand exchange and buying it for
362s yourself you have to go through the
363s tasks and earn it before you can wear it
365s after level 90 is the standard set of
368s Affair in terms of PBM equipment so for
370s level 95 will drop from the first
372s Necromancer boss
375s we've designed a toolkit for you with
376s the abilities within necromancy and we
378s want you to master them a lot of your
380s existing items and skills will also
381s benefit your necromancy things like your
383s amulets your rings your potions and even
386s your prayers as you can expect with all
387s other combat Styles over time we will be
389s adding to this whether it's new
390s abilities or equipment that changes the
392s way you play
397s in that mindset you have complete
399s freedom in how you want to level it we
401s want to give players the choice of how
402s to train necromancy they can train it
404s through combat and through rituals the
406s Skilling method this allows players to
408s be able to choose more lean forward or
410s laid-back gameplay often necromancy is
413s portrayed as an evil art but in the
415s world of given or the player has a
416s history of working with the dead
417s sometimes so the player has to learn how
420s to work with the dead to have them Ally
422s and join your fight against the first
424s Necromancer when you first arrive in the
426s city of um it will be lifeless over time
429s as you become more powerful you'll be
431s repopulating the city with various dead
434s primarily through the use of communion
436s rituals this will grant you progression
438s in The Well of Souls which you can use
440s to unlock new abilities there are 12
442s different ritual recipes you can perform
443s each requiring different components a
446s different Focus object and each
447s providing different rewards here you
449s build ritual components these consist of
452s light sources such as candles and glyphs
454s around a chosen Focus object or actuals
457s will give XP some of them will also give
459s crafting materials which can be used to
461s upgrade your necromancer's equipment or
463s craft reagents

470s there are a few different ways you can
472s talk about The Narrative of the
473s necromancy skill of course there is
475s going to be the story for everybody
476s training to take the skit out into the
479s world to fight the various monsters and
481s the bosses to perform stare and reap
483s tasks and just to level up from one to
486s 120. but the story of the first
488s Necromancer is also a huge part of the
490s skill update the first necromancer's
493s ultimate ambition is to break the cycle
495s of life and death to control all of the
498s souls
499s um you could see him being a counterpart
501s a mirror to death in order to break the
504s cycle or life on the surface must cease
507s or Must Die
512s to master necromancy the player is going
515s to have to spend a lot of time in the
517s city of um building up their own allies
519s in the world of the dead but also
521s they'll take their Newfound Necromancer
522s skills back up to the surface above and
524s use them to fight foes old and new so
527s the early quests will teach the player
528s the fundamentals of necromancy combat
530s rituals and runecrafting as you free
533s more Spirits from the thrall of the
534s first Necromancer you yourself will grow
537s in power and then as you unlock more of
539s this power you'll gain access to battles
541s and additional quests and then all of
543s this is building up to a final
545s confrontation a boss fight versus the
547s first Necromancer himself

560s learnings from the past and built for
562s the future the amount of work that's
563s gone into necromancy from the entire
565s RuneScape team and cross-disciplines has

571s it is visually stunning it is the city
574s to die for we've got new bosses we've
576s got new goodies and ultimately players
579s get to become a powerful badass new

584s above all else to me necromancy is going
587s to be that communal experience again
589s it's going to bring all players together
590s with a new skill in this new city to
593s interact with to learn together and to
595s have fun the launch of necromancy is

654s necromancy yesterday and I've watched
656s that like 11 times now no shame it looks
659s incredible hope you've all been able to

662s um these are just a few of the
663s incredible team that have made
665s necromancy happen for those of you have
667s read the first look Expanded Edition
669s which is over on the website now uh
671s you'll see the names of so many
673s wonderful mods who have made this and
675s contributed to making this a reality if

696s um let's get into it as a phrase first
698s question but I wanted to jump straight
700s into right at the top of this
702s why necromancy
706s so yeah I mean I think um
710s we when we did archeology necromancy
713s came up quite a lot
715s um so much to the point we had to sort
716s of just write it off and and uh and just
719s do not do the archeology and get on with
721s it
721s um but I felt like necromancy has been
723s coming for a long time
725s but how we did necromancy was a
727s different way like we couldn't do
730s everyone was talking all the hype was
732s like I was going to be like a combat
733s support skill it's going to be like
735s summoning V2 and it's like we can't do
737s that so let's do a new combat style I
740s remember when I told Ryan this for the
741s first time about making a new combat
743s style and you said I was crazy yeah I
745s mean yeah I mean just on the same point
747s like when we talk about archeology back
749s then we're like what is necromancy we
751s didn't know and then we were around this
752s time we're like what is necromancy let's
754s talk about it and then yeah Timber
755s mentions what about a combat star and
757s we're like
759s can we do that should we do that can we
761s do it but yeah I mean it was an
763s interesting topic of conversation for a
765s while
766s um but yeah obviously we doubled down
768s and went for it yeah but yeah we're glad
769s to see the reaction so far as soon as it
771s was pitched and we talked about it it
772s had to be that and it couldn't be
774s anything else
775s um we could make a support skill so we
777s wanted to make it a style and I'm
778s excited that everyone is happy about
781s that it's this is the getting excited
784s and and it's been such a a core part of
787s RuneScape you know there's been
789s necromancers yeah it's been the the idea
792s of necromancy as a concept in in
795s gilino's history it's been there so yeah
798s something that's being brought into the
800s foregrounding can talk about a little
801s bit but like one of the important things
803s for us is making sure I mean from all
805s skills going forward is that it's
806s grounded in RuneScape we use the term
808s runescapeey
810s a lot of us hate it but like
813s there is something runescapeey about
815s like about necromancing RuneScape about
817s the way we did archeology as well
819s um it's grounded in what RuneScape
821s values we have over the game of just the
824s way the skills designed and the way it
826s fits in with the game like archeology
827s has always been in RuneScape because of
829s the Dig side quest
831s um necromat has always been in in
833s RuneScape because of zamarigo sliske uh
837s it's all the way back to Lucian like
839s necro Lords and stuff in Demon homes
841s like it's always been a core part of of
843s RuneScape so that's we want it that's
846s the one of the reasons for it I mean as
848s well you've got um
850s to make it RuneScape is it yeah I mean I
852s love the phrase but
853s um making something runescapeey it's
855s hard to explain what that means but yeah
857s you think about necromancy a lot of
858s people think dark evil Etc now it's not
860s to say like doing necromancy in the
861s world of gilino is not an evil thing
863s like that hence why anywhere in game
865s currently in terms of law it's spoken
867s about in like a negative way but um we
869s wanted to make it you know what is
871s runescaping what is necromancy in a
872s runescaping way how can we bring that to
874s the player how can we give them the
875s power but maybe not in an evil way which
877s I'm sure we'll probably cover later
879s um yeah good fun task feel that way
883s I think that was one of the things that
884s I really liked seeing in the initial
887s reaction obviously everyone's going
888s crazy and spawning was amazing
891s um but I really really liked seeing a
893s few of the conversations pop up being
894s like
895s it's not evil because I think that was
897s the initial when necromancy when we
899s first revealed it back in December I
900s think that people were saying
903s oh no I have to make a choice necromancy
906s is inherently an evil thing if I want to
907s do this I have to
909s be evil but that's not RuneScape that's
914s not the way we're touching that around
915s yeah it can do a bit like I mean part of
917s what is runescaping for me is that we we
920s try to bring all of the players along on
922s the journey
923s um you can see that just in how players
925s can train whatever skill they want at
927s whatever time and there are players who
929s would just wouldn't want to play evil
931s necromancy they just would completely
933s avoid the skill but also there are those
936s players who want to double down and be
937s that evil Necromancer so that is uh that
941s pull to the the kind and I'm not going
943s to say to the dark side but I just did
946s so
947s um that corruptive influence that
949s necromancy has is part of the dichotomy
952s of the narrative we're going for here
953s but it was important to us at least from
956s the outset that the player is this kind
959s of uh
961s like getting all the Undead on side and
964s just being all palli and friendly with a
966s bunch of silly skeletons
968s Landscaping we should specify do not
971s touchy feely your skeleton please do not
973s yeah please do not the skeleton well one
976s of the key phrases we'll use during
977s design was consensual necromancy so we
981s are we are friends with uh with our
983s Undead you might get that on a t-shirt
985s brothers and sisters
988s I think that's that's definitely
990s something when we had
992s um people getting hands on
993s uh one of the things that I was hearing
996s talking to our creators who got Hands-On
998s was people like that's that's my guy
1001s like people got very attached to the
1004s conjures to to the skeletons and and the
1006s Phantoms and and the zombies and I think
1008s that
1009s that really shows that there's a there
1012s is that dichotomy but there's that
1014s connection of it's like a resistance and
1017s it's like a little ragtag group of
1019s Fighters and you're like yeah we're
1021s we're doing we're fighting the good
1022s fight we're sticking together
1024s um so feels feels really exciting so I'm
1028s I'm I'm I'm really excited to get hands
1030s on and I'm more excited for everyone to
1032s get Hands-On
1034s um so
1035s the next question is very
1039s nebulous what does it mean to create a
1041s new combat style in 2023 oh god um yeah
1045s that's a big question
1047s um there's a lot to say I'll try to say
1048s it briefly
1050s um but I mean
1051s um so obviously RuneScape since the
1054s beginning of time
1055s um more familiar with old school we had
1056s a combat system then we obviously had we
1058s had evolution of combat in 2012 2012 ish
1060s somewhere there and then we are aware
1062s combat is today so like designing a new
1065s combat style today we have 20 plus years
1067s of what what made RuneScape combat great
1070s begin with what have we learned since
1072s things like EOC like how we developed
1074s the skills uh sorry combat style since
1076s then it's pretty much taking everything
1078s we've learned
1079s trying to not no I would say designing
1081s from scratch because that's not true
1083s like we had to design a style within the
1085s combat system that is it already exists
1087s within RuneScape because what we didn't
1088s want to do is we don't want to make
1089s necromancy feel like
1090s it's something completely different if
1091s you learn how to do necromancing
1092s suddenly you move to melee for example
1094s it shouldn't feel completely distant but
1096s we also understand that there are things
1098s within those styles that um you know
1100s ultimately we'd like to change or maybe
1101s look at or improve and we kind of took
1103s necromancy as an opportunity to do that
1106s I'm sure I'll talk about them in more
1107s detail later but
1109s um
1110s definitely a tough probably the toughest
1113s design thing I've ever worked on on
1115s RuneScape
1117s that
1119s um yeah sorry I don't remember what
1122s specific question what you said
1123s something about combat stuff no that's
1124s that was it what does it mean to create
1126s one
1127s um
1128s on the subject of that
1130s combat means fighting and fighting
1132s bosses especially how will the skill
1136s affect bosses
1138s how does it how was it how will it
1140s affect existing bosses primarily
1143s um
1144s kind of depends on the boss
1146s um
1146s I guess you can see it like how there
1149s are certain styles that are used at
1150s certain bosses for good reason depending
1151s on how they work or what they're good at
1153s whether they maximize on quick hits or
1156s AOE damage depending on what it is
1159s um necromancy is slightly different in
1161s the there are some bosses which it will
1163s just naturally be better at taking and
1165s taking like a cow fight queen as an
1167s example she only prays against the three
1169s you know the triangle melee range the
1171s melee melee range their magic therefore
1173s if you use necromancy against cow fight
1175s green I promise you she doesn't stand a
1177s chance she just dies not literally just
1179s Falls over but obviously necromancy is
1181s very strong
1182s I'm so excited um
1185s but yeah I mean like things that there
1187s are still bosses that uh have the
1189s opposite like dagging off Kings for
1191s example necromancy cannot be used at
1192s Dagon of Kings because they are very
1194s specifically you must use ranged against
1195s me you must use melee so necromancy
1198s doesn't have an effect there and that
1199s probably answers some questions in the
1200s chat
1201s um but yeah so good against things like
1203s cow fight queen that prey
1205s um but you know doesn't work against
1207s things for example like daganoff kings
1208s which are very specific same with Rex
1210s matriarchs they only care about a
1212s certain damage type otherwise it's less
1214s important okay so anyone who's thinking
1216s I'm gonna necromancy only dagging off
1218s Kings or Rex matriarch
1220s forget it I'm sorry
1222s um and if you were thinking of doing
1223s that
1225s that's fine
1226s um circling back around to necromancy
1230s and how it feels and how it fits in the
1232s world of gilinore will necromancy tie
1234s into
1235s [Music]
1236s the existing law and storylines that we
1238s know and love in Runescape
1242s I mean I can but yeah jump in yeah um I
1246s mean you can cover a bit more and we've
1247s got a few quests coming with release and
1250s they they're definitely tied into
1251s existing story lines existing characters
1253s go to existing places
1255s um so yeah they're definitely they're
1257s definitely tied into existing storylines
1259s yeah I mean like like Ryan said we've
1261s got a lot of and Timber as well sorry as
1263s well all of us basically like we've got
1265s this Rich history in the game of
1267s necromancy being part of the narrative
1269s and we couldn't not have callbacks to
1272s some of those things and bring some of
1273s those characters in
1275s um but as well like there are new
1276s characters and new story lines that
1278s we're bringing with the launch and on
1280s top of that just this is a new beginning
1282s of narrative too so yeah I think like
1287s seeing
1288s seeing the characters and seeing the
1290s locations that that you see in the first
1293s look
1294s um and some of the characters that you
1295s interact with when you start your your
1297s necromancy Journey
1299s for me I was like these are instant
1301s classic characters I love these These
1303s are going to become long-standing parts
1305s of
1306s the fan base and and people are going to
1308s love these
1310s um so I'm I'm really excited for them to
1312s be able to
1313s but for all of you at home to get your
1315s hands on them no don't get your hands on
1316s them why'd I say that that's weird for
1318s you to interact with them and get to
1319s know them there we go that's better I'm
1321s gonna add some stuff as well um
1323s something that we we've learned a lot
1324s over the years as well and I think mod
1326s Jack talks about a fair amount of like
1328s seasons and stuff is coming into
1330s necromancy you don't need to be like a
1332s law fanatic and have an understanding of
1334s the game law like we kind of for those
1336s who are law like uh I won't say law
1338s experts those who are already invest in
1340s the law you may pick up on extra things
1342s or like references and things like that
1343s but as a player just coming into it it's
1345s quite a nice story to follow you don't
1348s need any pre-knowledge of anything you
1349s can kind of get stuck in
1351s um something we did but yeah a lot of
1353s focus on nowadays is making sure that
1354s everyone can be invested but at the same
1357s time yeah if you're uh out there with a
1360s good mind already about the law of the
1361s game you'll pick up on a little extras
1363s excellent good stuff
1365s um oh we've got so many questions coming
1367s in
1368s um
1370s here's one from mascotv2 on Twitter this
1372s is number nine spear
1375s um the creators that visited Jag xhq to
1377s get hands on with necromancy must have
1379s given a lot of feedback but what was the
1381s best piece of feedback that a Creator
1383s gave it's primarily for Timber and Ryan
1386s if you can think of one on the top of
1388s your head honestly thank you so much
1390s thank you so much and it's all
1392s invaluable all valuable sorry in the
1394s sense of like
1395s I couldn't pick out a best piece because
1397s there was so much so different variety
1399s like we had a variety of um experienced
1401s players sorry variety of players of
1403s different experiences we got a lot of
1404s good feedback on like the tutorial the
1406s early game the teaching process we got
1408s good feedback on like the combat uh from
1410s like a low end to a high end the middle
1412s um so honestly maybe it sounds too
1414s political but like it was all great I
1416s think we just
1417s we took it all away we've already like
1419s worked on some implementations of things
1421s we've been having conversations about
1422s things
1424s um yeah I don't have a single best piece
1426s to be honest if I had to pick one it's
1428s probably the teaching part
1430s we taught some things but asking we were
1435s surprised at how much they wanted more
1436s to be taught about the accountabilities
1438s and the skill and stuff so I think that
1441s part I don't want to say specific level
1442s I was literally about to say specific
1443s levels
1444s um but like the part of after post
1446s tutorial to a certain level degree where
1448s you get a couple of abilities that was a
1450s very interesting part for us I know
1452s that's something that surprised me the
1454s most but yeah there's all those
1455s absolutely tons of it as Ryan says from
1458s like really top end with very specific
1462s um detail of of what does disability do
1465s in but I mean yeah to like General stuff
1468s there is a bit of feedback
1469s um
1471s I wouldn't mind just saying I'm happy to
1473s say it yeah definitely it's not my best
1475s but it's in it's in like something we
1476s changed so we do mention in the first
1478s look about bone Shield yeah uh we
1481s mentioned it's a spell that you can cut
1482s so an incantation that you can cast that
1484s um yeah sorry dark spell also known as
1487s incantation
1488s um it's an incantation you can cast that
1490s allows you to use defensive abilities
1493s um it used to be that you could cast it
1495s lasts for a duration of time and then it
1497s expires now the caveats we've got
1499s feedback from the players who came in
1500s that is still no different to putting a
1503s shield on to some degree you have to
1504s cast it and then you have to use like
1505s your resonance so we've actually changed
1507s it since then so it's an active ability
1508s in the sense of you compress it and it
1511s toggles it on it's now on
1513s um and every time you use a defensive
1515s ability we take runes from you so you no
1518s longer have to you know turn on and
1519s sorry you don't have to turn on in a
1521s moment just have it on and if you need
1522s to use resonance your resonance and it
1524s takes runes if you need to barricade
1525s your barricade it takes rooms that's a
1527s good bit of feedback to just mention um
1528s and for everyone that's saying buy
1529s shields in the chat sorry bye shoes
1534s um that's not true it's Shields are
1536s still useful
1537s um the Spells themselves give you a
1539s lesser version of The Shield scaled on
1540s your necromancy level so for example if
1542s it's the spell gives you a 50 shield and
1545s you're level 120 you're only getting a
1546s level 60 Shield
1548s um
1548s which has an effect on various abilities
1550s like resonance and barricade bash those
1554s are various abilities at scale level
1556s um
1557s mellow chats we still got it don't worry
1558s about it you've created pogging off I
1560s hate the word no they're all my little
1563s POG Champs look at them they're great
1564s they're doing great
1566s it's too late it's already been said
1569s um
1570s so the city of um
1572s incredible

1590s the name and more about the city
1594s for sure yeah so uh
1597s the kind of the inspiration for the name
1599s is that uh this necropolis this space is
1602s effectively RuneScape limbo it's the I
1606s can't remember the exact word but it's
1607s like the way station for lost souls
1609s plenty of people who die they know where
1611s they're going in their afterlife but
1613s this this is kind of your your you know
1616s the leftovers of the undead Society
1620s um and
1622s trying to build on the silly names we've
1624s got in the game we've got the river
1625s Newman on uh the city itself sits atop
1629s uh I I'll get this I'll butcher this but
1631s I believe it's Lake nemosini
1633s um which is uh call back to Greek
1636s mythology
1637s um it's the lake of memories so we had
1639s this idea of this city that was built
1641s from the memories of people passing
1643s through it so you'd have say like a
1645s public landlord who dies remembers their
1647s Pub back into existence and then
1650s eventually over time these these
1652s characters will move on to their actual
1655s afterlives and that memory starts to
1657s fade so you've got this shifting
1658s landscape of memories growing and
1661s dissipating
1663s um and we just wanted to play around

1715s the mirror with the surface world
1716s lumbridge so there was a whole host of
1718s reasons for the name plus you know you
1720s could you can uh you can joke around
1722s with it it's good it's good material

1726s the toddlers were lazy there's your
1727s explanation there we go see it was so

1731s hours of research and I'm just imagining

1742s names of things as developers it's the

1751s figure out the name for raksha I get I
1753s swear we just didn't decide for weeks or
1755s months and yeah and then when a name
1757s goes out sometimes even if it's as
1758s simple as oh the character's name is
1760s Ryan you know there's more behind it

1763s um I mean I think raksha was probably
1765s the first thing I suggested and you were
1767s like nah I don't like it and then I did
1769s like a massive list 100 new names and
1771s you're like how about raksha that's

1782s look like a place that's simultaneously
1785s being built and decaying at the same
1786s time it's sort of in that transient

2064s won't go off at all while they're
2065s leveling necromancy because they're
2066s melee stat sorry in the combat triangle
2069s stats are already 99 it's only the
2071s moment that you pass 99 that you'll
2073s start going between 138 and 152.

2314s if you were to turn up on your own the
2316s boss say may have a hundred thousand HP
2318s and you kill it you get a drop if you
2320s want to turn up with your friend the
2321s boss will have twice as much HP and
2323s you'll both get a drop if you want to
2325s turn up with two of your friends it'll
2326s have three times as much HP and three
2327s drops the intention is
2330s play the game your way you want to play
2331s with six range you want to play with
2332s tooth range you want to play with eight
2333s friends uh you can you can turn up and
2335s kill the boss it scales up just like
2337s Rapture is probably the best example the
2339s health scales but we give you all the
2341s drop
2342s um because we want you to be able to
2344s play with your friends and we also know
2345s that when I go with Ramen as an example
2347s I'm going to call him out he doesn't
2349s want to necessarily do Duo content with
2351s me because he knows I'll get the drop so

2655s and we just kind of but okay what's the
2658s clearest representation of necromancy
2661s and it's like the zombie hands a bit
2662s Yeah the death guard looks just like an
2665s armored hand it wasn't it didn't kind of
2667s scream necromancy
2668s um so we just kind of went from there
2670s really and the skull we know we did

2676s skull but felt they felt they looked

2680s different enough
2682s I thought it was fine and obviously it
2684s incorporates the necromancy colors as

2688s talk about as well is that it's not just

2693s a hit Splat as well right so like no we

2697s ideas for different skill icons what do
2699s they look like as a hair Mark what do

2705s just very very obvious and clear for us

2787s comments of like hey you copied thieving
2788s but in terms of development it's
2790s actually the other way around but yeah
2792s um but yes in terms of colors as well

2796s and they went through the same thought
2797s process we did which is like oh if we
2798s take the necromancy colors you know like
2800s purple and teal then we can make it oh
2802s it's divination you know they went
2804s through the same process we went through
2806s um so we tried all the sorts of colors
2807s that we've seen other people
2809s um the top two that we kind of were
2810s looking at were we wanted to do a black
2813s base because
2814s for various reasons but um
2817s black and purple versus black and
2820s um like teal or cyan color which is
2822s ironically the ones you kind of see a
2824s lot of people talk about they were kind
2826s of the two we were but we were battling
2828s between
2829s um in the end we just made a decision
2830s yeah the team liked purple the most and
2832s that was what we went with worth noting
2834s as well the purple is the color of
2836s necromancy in the same way that melee
2838s magic Marines to have their own colors
2840s so uh the the teal and the cyan they're
2844s more those are colors we've got reserved
2846s for different types of Undead creatures
2847s so the core purple color for the skill
2850s I should be reflected on the cape so
2853s there's uh there's reasons behind it
2855s other than just it looks pretty
2857s there we go so in the first look we
2861s discovered that you use a lantern and a
2864s death guard
2865s and that is your that is how you engage
2868s in necromancy combat

2874s can we conjure our allies and then
2877s switch to a different weapon style
2879s stowing the Lantern and death guard away
2882s right now you can
2885s but it's a balancing question at the
2887s moment more than anything in that
2889s there's a there's the battle between yes
2892s you can conjure them and they're out and
2894s then you may want to swap to a different
2895s style but should they be as strong as
2896s they were when you conjured them because
2897s you're no longer doing that Community
2898s because what we don't want to create is
2900s this uh scenario where everyone opens
2903s with necromancy you conjure them you
2904s just swap away it's not it's not a great
2906s sort of like design space it's not great
2907s for the player to be in that space

2910s but of course like there are we could
2912s just you know make them despawn when you
2914s swap but that also disables the ability
2916s to hybrid it's a conversation right now
2917s like in all honestly like we're thinking
2918s about the best way of approaching it
2920s whether or not we should yet Nerf their
2921s stats if you're not you know equipped to
2923s be a necromancer right now because there
2925s is a lot of value in like you know
2926s hybriding as well I don't I know that to
2929s be honest hybrid is definitely a high
2930s level end game thing right now

2941s mentioned it you will to use the to

2944s a spirit yes it requires the lantern but
2947s it also requires the arm guard you can't

2954s range without main hand weapon so you
2955s can't just swap the offhand you'd have
2957s to swap both

2994s content it's a lot of stuff to change
2996s but we also need to make necromancy as a
2998s skill so it's like it's never it's not a
3000s priority to do but yeah I mean we'd love

3005s um the the first Necromancer boss will
3007s do necromancy damage
3009s because he is a necromancer
3012s surprise yeah and kind of I guess as

3027s focus on that as an update rather than

3086s same way you do with the other Kiln
3088s capes to upgrade it into the
3090s um yeah the Zuck version if you have a
3094s I can't remember the names and I made
3095s them maybe sponge named them but I made
3097s dessert cake so I can't remember the
3098s names this comes up capes if you have
3100s the combined Zucker Cape at the moment
3101s when you log in it will be hardened and
3104s you'll have to and it will essentially
3105s split so you you'll you'll get all three
3108s of your existing cubes back because you
3109s now need net commands you to recombine
3110s into the combined Cape yep um that
3114s includes Keepsake with a key refund I
3117s believe we did that I do not remember
3119s you did it yeah
3120s um and if like there's all sorts of and
3122s we'll go too granular if we go into the
3124s details yeah there are new things but

3241s fairly complex
3244s Skilling method it was more complex but
3247s you know we had longevity play testing
3250s and the creators have kind of been down
3253s as well
3254s and we've kind of just worked to make it
3258s a more streamlined process easier but
3260s also trying to find that balance between
3262s you know AFK people who are doing their
3265s skill and content and they just want to
3267s lay back and just do it that way but
3269s also people who are blowing attention
3270s and they are paying a bit more Lean
3272s Forward they'll you know be able to get
3274s more XP and get rewarded for that so
3277s yeah so working off the initial design
3279s has really just been fine-tuning those
3281s aspects to make sure there's the right
3283s balance

3285s and yeah and obviously you know quality
3287s of life stuff just really making sure
3289s the process is kind of and as smooth as
3292s possible like even stuff like oh you
3294s know is this something we do Post
3296s Release yes but people are just going to
3298s be asking for it so why not just do it
3300s now for release just to make the whole
3302s experience easier and nicer

3308s to be clear it's going to be something

3311s everyone's gonna I I think everyone you
3315s you everyone has you you do it as it's
3318s like you're introduced to it from the
3320s start yeah yeah and then it then it sort
3323s of you keep coming back to it it's
3325s something everyone needs to do rituals
3327s if you want to increase your
3329s um if you want to unlock essentially if
3331s you want to unlock more net
3332s commensibilities they're in a new
3335s talents interface to access that you
3337s need to perform rituals yeah so and to
3339s upgrade your armor and upgrade drama
3341s yeah so that's that I think that was one
3342s of the core things that we we touched on
3344s in the first look was the
3346s your gear grows with you rather than
3350s doing what I do which is just dumping
3351s like bronze and then iron and then
3353s mithril armor in my bank

3356s you just you get that one set of gear
3358s that you just continually
3359s build on that
3361s um as you go and that's
3363s that's going to be rituals that does
3365s that that's what opens that up for you

3368s and again as as Luma said there's those
3370s rocket Unity style things where like if
3373s you're paying attention there are ways
3374s for you to get more XP

3936s no new auras on release for necromancy
3938s um it's kind of the same as most slots
3940s like you'll notice the other combat
3942s skills have had 20 years of game content
3943s added so they've got auras and 100 pairs
3946s of boots and you know all that sort of
3947s stuff however it is worth noting that
3950s um necromancy does not have like an
3952s accuracy or on release it doesn't have a
3954s kazirk aura but necromancy we didn't
3957s cover this in News Post
3958s um necromancy has a similar system to
3960s what you may be familiar in Elite
3962s dungeon 4 the xamarack undercity whereby
3965s you cannot miss I guess is because is
3968s the way of putting it and when you
3970s attack an enemy if your hit chance is
3972s low we scale your damage down we don't
3974s roll to see if you should hit and if you
3976s miss or not
3978s um so you will not I guess the best
3979s weapon is you will not miss with
3980s necromancy
3981s um you will just do scaled down damage
3984s basically depending on how accurate you
3986s were
3987s um there is an asterisk there which is
3988s you will miss if you're at hit chance is
3991s so low so like you can't be a level one
3992s net commander and try to fight xamarack
3994s you you will still miss
3995s um but it's about Bridging the Gap to
3997s make it so that you know it feels good
3999s your pressing abilities you're hitting
4000s because we all know that no one enjoys
4002s firing off 100 adrenaline ultimate to
4004s just miss you know
4006s um
4007s okay I guess there's something to draw
4009s out there as well in that we do have 20
4012s years of time or maybe 10 measuring from
4016s EOC roughly for the other combat skills
4018s that they've developed they've got all
4019s these things all these toys uh and
4022s necromancy you know we're just starting
4023s with a sensible core we could have say
4025s cut back on the narrative on the city on
4028s the quest and all of that good stuff as

4031s um made all these decisions before the
4033s release of necromancy but I think early
4034s on we decided that we want to bring
4037s players into this conversation so we we
4039s just want to give them this core to
4041s start with see which elements of the
4043s skill they love which maybe the bits
4045s that maybe they're not taking so well to
4048s um so we've just got this core tool kit
4050s we're going to put it in front of
4051s players and we're going to start a
4052s conversation because we don't want to
4054s necessarily answer all of those
4055s questions right at launch and say oh no
4058s that's it now that's necromancy there's
4059s your aura there's there's all your gear
4061s we want players to jump in with ideas
4063s too and suggestions for what they want
4065s this gives us loads of room to do with
4066s this in the future really content that
4068s has this stuff as rewards
4071s um yeah I think that's that is something
4073s that I cannot stress enough is that this
4077s is like
4078s we want this to be approachable
4081s let's get the bingo card ready
4082s approachable but deep
4084s um but also that we want this to grow
4086s with people and just like the community
4090s we have been really trying to make sure
4093s that this is as community
4095s driven as it can be and as Community
4097s focused as it can be and
4100s hearing from the community and having
4102s that Community voice that player voice
4104s help guide not direct but sort of lean a
4109s little bit
4110s and so if there is as as it goes on if
4113s there's more stuff that comes out

4418s hey by the way we want to make every
4419s player in the game run around with this
4421s many NPCs they're like oh God but that
4423s was an interesting and fun conversation

4429s for the player like a lot of people may
4431s think you can't just have like 10
4432s skeletons following you for example you
4434s know we have very specific conjures for
4436s good reason they they have more of an
4437s identity they have a purpose they have
4439s like abilities
4440s um so yeah you can only have a few at
4442s once Plus on top of like you're
4444s summoning familiar just to confirm you
4445s can still have that
4447s um yeah everyone in your everyone around
4449s you can have a bunch of them at a single
4451s time
4452s um there are things we've like
4453s considered you know how you know if
4455s there were so many in the area what
4456s happens but generally speaking like I'm
4458s sure that when we release we may find
4461s for argument's sake I don't know why but
4463s let's just say 200 people are in the
4464s same place and they all decide to have
4466s 300 Spirits we may need to look at
4468s certain things but they are sort of
4469s things again we'll learn and we'll see

5150s necromancy is a new skill for RuneScape
5153s and a new Standalone combat star
5161s necromancy is a non-ally new combat
5164s skill that goes up to level 120 I'm a
5166s free to play it goes to level 20. it's
5168s the first new combat style ever released
5171s in RuneScape it's the fourth convey
5172s style and it's independently outside of
5175s the original Three combat Styles the
5176s combat level goes from level 138 up to
5178s level 152.
5181s the main antagonist of The Necromancer
5184s skill is the first necromancer
5189s powerful ancient Necromancer who's
5192s resurfaced time and again through
5193s history and this time they've taken a
5196s special interest in you the first
5198s Necromancer has attacked Gilmore's
5199s Underworld the city of um where it's
5201s enthralled its Spirits the player must
5203s work with older new characters to master
5205s necromancy on the journey that'll take
5206s you across skin lot across the city of
5208s um to help you free the spirits and
5210s defeat the fast necromancer
5214s necromancy has been designed in a way
5216s where it is accessible to all player
5219s types if combat's something you'd like
5220s to do more of but at the moment you find
5222s the barrier to entry is a bit high for
5223s the existing Styles The Necromancer is a
5225s perfect way to actually get started on
5227s it not only will there be lots of
5228s tutorials about how to use Necromancer
5230s abilities and to do combat in general
5232s but with the upgrade system that we have
5234s we'll be able to upgrade your way
5235s through the tiers oh it's tier 90 by
5238s doing the necromancy narrative story
5240s content on the other hand for players
5242s who take a more active approach to
5243s combat necromancy will reward you for
5245s your skill and your knowledge and your
5246s activity as you level through the skill
5248s you'll get access to more complex and
5250s challenging encounters that's one of the
5251s key elements of necromancer is making
5253s sure that it's approachable it has those
5255s deep systems for those who want it but
5257s it is rewarding for you to master at the
5258s end up even though necromancy is a
5260s combat skill if you don't want to engage
5261s with combat at all you will still be
5263s able to level it out of combat using
5265s rituals rituals are our skinning
5267s component of necromancy where you can
5269s just do rituals all the way to level
5270s 120.
5274s also necromancy a community is extremely
5276s important we've worked with content
5278s creators brought them into the office
5279s got them to play necromancy given their
5282s feedback to make sure that before
5284s release necromancy is as good as it can
5287s be this isn't a one and done release
5288s we're going to continue taking on the
5290s player feedback we want to make sure
5292s that the skill is as enjoyable for our
5296s wider player base we want the community
5297s to be involved heavily with this
5305s necromancy is a brand new combat style
5307s who features its own new equipment
5309s weapons incantations and abilities
5311s necromancy sits outside the combat
5313s triangle this means it's neither weak
5315s nor strong against magic ranged or Manic
5317s the necromancer's main hand weapon the
5319s death guard is required to use
5321s necromancy abilities this is where
5323s you'll be mainly using your abilities
5325s skill damage from afar while you also
5327s have the spirit Lantern the offhand
5329s which is required to conjure creatures
5330s from the underworld such as skeleton
5332s Warriors future zombies and ghosty rips
5334s the country Spirits only last for a sad
5336s amount of time during combat but you
5338s want to try and make sure it will keep
5339s them alive for as long as you can
5340s because as they progress through combat
5342s they can't potentially increases and
5343s they'll be able to do more and more
5344s damage
5347s your next fancy abilities such as your
5349s conjures or even just your regular
5351s attacks will consume adrenaline however
5353s we also have incantations which will
5355s require necromancing runes one of the
5357s incantations available to you is bone
5359s Shield this allows you to use defensive
5361s abilities without requiring field we are
5363s also introducing four new runes bone
5365s room the spirit Rune the flesh room and
5367s the miasma room these are all required
5369s for necromancy incantations and can be
5371s crafted in the Underworld while some
5373s abilities are unlocked just from
5374s leveling others are only unlocked via
5376s our new system known as talents as you
5378s engage in necromancy combat you will
5380s learn Talent points by performing
5381s rituals you will gain access to more
5383s talents as you gain access to more
5385s Talent you will have to make a choice
5386s about what you want to unlock now but
5388s once you've mastered the skill you'll
5390s have unlocked everything
5393s in necromancy there's a brand new way to
5395s upgrade your equipment we don't want to
5397s waste your time by making low-to
5398s equipment because you'll be blasting
5400s through those levels quite quickly so
5402s within necromancy you can upgrade the
5404s very first piece of equipment you get
5405s given after the tutorial this equipment
5407s goes from Level 1 to level 90. it is not
5410s as simple as going to the Grand exchange
5411s and buying it for yourself you have to
5413s go through the tasks and earn it before
5415s you can wear it after level 90 is the
5417s standard set of Affair in terms of PDM
5419s equipment so if level 95 will drop from
5422s the first Necromancer boss
5425s we've designed a toolkit for you with
5427s the abilities within net commansea and
5428s we want you to master them a lot of your
5430s existing items and skills will also
5432s benefit your necromancy things like your
5434s amulets your rings your potions and even
5436s your prayers as you can expect with all
5438s other combat Styles over time we will be
5439s adding to this whether it's new
5440s abilities or equipment that changes the
5442s way you play
5448s in neck mindset you have complete
5450s freedom in how you want to level it we
5451s want to give players the choice of how
5453s to change necromancy they can train it
5455s through combat and through rituals the
5457s Skilling method this allows players to
5459s be able to choose more lean forward or
5460s laid-back gameplay often necromancy is
5463s portrayed as an evil art but in the
5465s world of given or the player has a
5466s history of working with the dead
5468s sometimes so the player has to learn how
5471s to work with the dead to have them Ally
5473s and join your fight against the first
5474s Necromancer when you first arrive in the
5477s city of um it will be lifeless over time
5480s as you become more powerful you'll be
5482s repopulating the city with various dead
5485s primarily through the use of communion
5487s rituals this will grant you progression
5489s in The Well of Souls which you can use
5490s to unlock new abilities there are 12
5492s different ritual recipes you can perform
5494s each requiring different components a
5496s different Focus object and each
5498s providing different rewards here you
5499s build ritual components these consist of
5502s light sources such as candles and glyphs
5505s around a chosen Focus object all rituals
5507s will give P some of them will also give
5510s crafting materials which can be used to
5511s upgrade your necromancer's equipment or
5513s craft reagents
5515s foreign
5520s there are a few different ways you can
5522s talk about The Narrative of the
5523s necromancy skill of course there is
5525s going to be the story for everybody
5527s training to take this get out into the
5529s world to fight the various monsters and
5531s the bosses to perform stair and read the
5534s tasks and just to level up from one to
5536s 120. but the story of the first
5538s Necromancer is also a huge part of the
5541s skill update the first necromancer's
5543s ultimate ambition is to break the cycle
5545s of life and death to control all of the
5548s souls
5549s um you could see him being a counterpart
5552s a mirror to death in order to break the
5554s cycle all life on the surface must cease
5557s or Must Die
5563s Master necromancer the player is going
5566s to have to spend a lot of time in the
5567s city of um building up their own allies
5569s in the world of the dead but also
5571s they'll take their Newfound Necromancer
5573s skills back up to the surface above and
5575s use them to fight foes old and new so
5577s the early quests will teach the player
5579s the fundamentals of necromancy combat
5581s rituals and runecrafting as you free
5583s more Spirits from the thrall of the
5585s first Necromancer you yourself will grow
5587s in power and then as you unlock more of
5589s this power you'll gain access to battles
5591s and additional quests and then all of
5593s this is building up to a final
5595s confrontation a boss fight versus the
5598s first Necromancer himself

5609s that necromancy was designed based on
5611s learning from the past and built for the
5613s future the amount of work that's gone
5614s into necromancy from the entire
5616s RuneScape team and cross-disciplines has
5618s been amazed
5622s it is visually stunning it is
5625s it is die for we've got new bosses we've
5627s got new goodies and ultimately players
5629s get to become a powerful badass
5631s necromancer
5634s above all else to mean acromancy is
5637s going to be that communal experience
5639s again it's going to bring all players
5641s together with a new skill in this new
5642s city to interact with to learn together
5645s and to have fun the launch of necromancy
5647s is just the beginning we're going to
5649s continue to expand and evolve it over
5651s time there's something here for everyone
5652s there's something here for the top and
5653s bottoms something for the Casual players
