58s or the response has been largely
62s positive I think like the the updates
64s we've shown I think they've been some
65s nice nice surprises in there some people
67s like highlighting some things I like
69s really as well you know dachshund RS was
72s always a favorite
72s broccoli mustard was a favor so yeah I
76s do love how if anyone's not filled out
77s the survey you're kind of like on a like
81s swaying it a little bit yeah complete
82s manip something's but like it's
93s different from previous where we've done
94s it you know on a cheeky Survey Monkey
96s which i think is gdpr inappropriate now
98s so we now gone through a different
100s system which means that I don't get to
102s look at the results as much as I used to
103s because somebody has got the keys to
104s that the results but they're having a
106s few there have been a few things that we
109s found out so those will bleed out over
112s the weeks in terms of us giving results
114s a lot of questions were will we actually
116s see the results of this yes you will
118s some will come through at runefest for
120s particular talk their post stream but
121s yeah that's that the the survey ends I
124s think it's end of this month okay so
126s it's gonna be in like post room fest

130s the results as I said some will be arena

149s really like have been some negatives and

157s come up a fair amount and which we'll
159s talk about sections we talked about last
163s time around about kind of folding
165s questions together or folding updates
167s together some people had real issue with
168s which is understandable but we we have
170s pulled those independently before and
172s really this was about taking the update
174s to its natural extension of what it
175s would look like on release I mean just
177s trying to compare updates if we had
179s launched them and what we would have
180s done for each of those launches but um

241s doing very recently we had to change to
243s our teams the teams that I've make up of
246s runescape and also the problems that
249s each of those teams are trying to solve
250s so that's a big change
254s so we wanted to kind of choose a way of
256s communicating that the moment can go
258s into depth and mine did we go into depth
260s so that was like a lot of deaths yeah so
262s we'll do that for we've done that for
264s episode of content which is one of our
265s teams
265s that's one dedicated to things like
267s quest
267s bosses dungeons landmasses skills that
270s kind of thing the content that you play
273s and then we will go into detail in the
276s kind of more contention is going to be
278s harder to make LiveOps
279s one which is fitting the make our
281s monetization stuff
283s but also our core game experience team
285s who are more mysterious kind of robes
288s and things that I'm not I'm here mister
294s but in the sense that would there's a
296s lot of room fest that we're going to be
298s doing showing stuff you're making yes
300s and that is all gonna be new so we're
302s going to introduce that team as well and
304s then if then we've got mobile oft about
306s which weird is actually in the same is
308s yeah it's no longer we're no longer
310s mobile its core experience as I think
313s works very mobile
313s yeah yes but we are going to separate

321s mention the news posts but I wouldn't
322s whatever can kind of touch on it a

329s already too much content in the game
330s making it quite confusing to pick up I
332s don't think anybody was in who gonna be
336s argued again it's not surprised yeah the
338s game has been out for 18 years we've
340s been updating mostly weekly over that
343s entire 18 year period yeah 19 years 19
346s year period through 19 years now yeah
347s yeah so yeah we have a lot of content in
350s game not all of it is very good or very
353s used sorry brutal one that isn't used
364s yeah by players anymore there's a very
366s specific method of very specific sets of
368s content that people use all the time
369s yeah so yeah we want to try and remaster
374s that content
374s yeah and that was a big picture what's
376s the definition of a remaster of content
379s is all of the things you'd loved about
382s that content in a package in a new form
384s with some new content some new things to
386s chase so we talked about it we talked
389s about God was one a lot in the design
390s diary I think and remastered to God Wars
394s dungeon one it would be the same general
397s as you know love like Grodd or we are
399s that sort of thing
401s but with new mechanics new loot maybe
404s gods also btr-90 - yeah that sort of
407s thing like but there will be something
409s new to chase there would be an elite
410s dungeon there would be a quest or there
411s would be skin content you love hourly
414s dungeons or there would be some skilling
417s content in the in there maybe the new
419s tonight got sores would be used a new a
421s new metal but they could be able to be
423s mined from the new crop was dungeon but
425s that sort of thing that's what every
427s master looks like the graphical polish
429s alright so choke quickly at the chat
431s someone said but why that when there are
433s areas are worse and presumably that's
434s just an example and this yeah yeah
437s please don't ya using combat encounters
440s to explain this because actually I find
442s that the easiest to explain yeah varrock
444s remastered again it doesn't have to be
446s Viroqua
446s and I players were saying well why don't
447s you do some of the lesser rework you
449s know least three work what I hope or
452s something but the very message talked
453s about today in the team was as mi
456s remaster yeah would be cool Zen Amaya is
458s an iconic piece of content with the two
460s paths for their fast and the slow path
462s of getting their random runes but lots
465s lots more experience and that sort of
466s thing so that's a good skilling remaster
469s for me yeah and would be ratting zmi to
471s make it again a worthwhile high
475s experience random ruin variants that's
478s it
478s some people have highlighted areas that
481s they're all things that they would like
482s remastered then nobody goes to and
485s doesn't really have a core of any kind
486s of quality for me yeah you doesn't have
487s an idea at the center of it there really
488s makes it valuable or I'd say well
490s obviously we should we work that because
491s that I I I think in our kind of new
494s world order we will probably look to
496s remove those yes yeah there's nothing in
498s there that is valuable it's not trying
500s to remaster you know I'm gonna annoy
502s somebody familiarize ation hmm let's try
505s not too familiar there's no point in
507s remastering that so in Mo's instance you
508s might well rip out gorgeous evil ass all
511s evenly but yeah it like we wouldn't have
514s remastered mobilising he's more rapid
516s there wasn't a core idea there that
518s conquest
519s yeah or conquest like there's no core
520s content there like people have really
522s enjoyed we don't have any desire to
524s remaster that busy and it's not iconic I
526s think one of the things is that we want
528s to remastered iconic pieces of content
529s as well yeah so all the things we talked
531s about so far like said oh my god boss
533s dungeon one
534s for rock all iconic pieces of content
536s and now remembers and them and yeah yeah
540s I know the reason for doing largely
543s oriented towards the iconic might be all
544s of them is that it tracks people back in
547s like those people who have a kind of
549s previous love history with runescape you
551s know they want that and like that's
554s that's something's really bugging cool
556s and then into problem 2 which is we're
559s trying to do too many different things
561s at once there's a bit more contentious I
565s think mainly because it's a message more
567s for us as a development team and players
568s don't feel it as much yeah which is as a
572s development team we are producing a lot
573s of things but as you know the like the
576s previous iteration of episodic content
577s producing temporary content is doing a
579s lot of new systems and ways of getting
581s engaged with things is doing huge quests
586s we're doing so much and I feel like that
590s is damaging our ability to serve players
592s who love a specific kind of common quest
595s is love quests bosses like bosses and
597s because we're doing so many things we're
599s not focusing on those and actually those
600s are the things that don't add to the
602s cognitive
603s it sorry the complexity of the game so
606s it was that point yeah you outlined both
609s you outlined in essence there's going to
611s be these content types that we focus on
613s in the short term is short-tempered yeah
614s so in addition style you mentioned some
616s sick bosses encounters drops yep
619s asynchronous minigames yep so in essence
622s ports and stuff like that correct yeah
623s and or not know I know a lot of people
626s were really worried about just having
627s parind we're going play around crazy
629s asynchronous crazy I think a lot of this
632s is going to be quite the interests of
633s already got hmm I think proportionately
635s out of all of these categories yeah I
637s think I agree with that they will be the
639s least updated so please don't feel like
641s a tease will be the month I'm likely to
642s incorporate I things like remastered
644s like a remastered miscellanea yeah I
646s wouldn't get mentions which I think it's
647s gonna happen now yeah keep talking about
648s it which which combines a lot of our
650s things it would be a miss lane Oh Pierre
652s I can't be as a content it would be a
654s remaster it would be an increase of
657s content yeah but we're not going to
658s remaster miscellanea every month yes
661s because you can't you can't do that and
663s we're releasing new ports expansion
665s every month you have to see right and I
666s don't
666s and we can design round it so that they
668s don't have to be checked in and all the
670s time yeah there are ways of getting
671s around them or making it easy to check
673s in yeah yeah centralizing it yeah
676s and now obviously the another one in the
679s big one really a skill in where we now
681s announced we are currently working on
683s two skills and difficulty to go to 120s
686s so I guess the question very broadly
688s speaking is why now it's very good
691s question yeah I mean one of the things
693s that we love about runescape as opposed
695s to say old school for example is we grow
697s but there are new challenges so how do
700s we bring so we could add in new skill
702s after new skill because to me skills are
704s how the avatar represent you know it's
705s how you are successful in the game that
708s is what I level that's how I unlock
709s things that's the joy of the game one
711s patterns we talked about two different
712s opportunities yeah we could go for new
714s skill off to new skirt off to new skill
715s keep going that room the problem with
718s that is that where that puts us in 10-15
719s years time my wife there's so many
724s different ways to achieve for a person
725s who hasn't been here for a while that
727s kind of thing but we still think new
728s skills are valuable but actually if you
730s can extend and expand and enrich so
733s we're also talked about remasters as
734s well when people focus on the one 2012
736s and the remastering and reworking skills
738s which is also going to be there if we
742s can enhance the core skills that we know
744s people love I think that's a real
745s positive I think we should grow I think
748s we should and I think skills is where we
749s should grow yep but doing it in the
752s skills that people know and value I
754s think that's also the right direction to
756s be putting in the mix with reworks and
758s new skills so in essence to I fit me to
761s it was last week but when it comes to
762s remaster in a skill let's say for
765s example construction yep which is on the
766s annual survey does that in essence has
768s to have to go to a 120 yeah no so there
774s are different ways of doing it
774s like I think construction works
777s personally I know a lot of people didn't
779s but what it needs most priority one is
782s it needs early work for me that's
784s Priority One if we don't have enough if
786s we have enough time and resource then I
788s would love to add a new training methods
790s new unlocks beyond 99 and actually put
792s in a 120 in there as well because
794s hopefully it's now an absolute joy to do
796s and then because of what we've talked
798s about how we're going to be balancing or
799s looking out and balance
800s you're also accelerating through it as
801s well a little bit more than before and
803s so 120s become more viable as well so
805s for me priority run is a rework of
807s construction obviously skill by skill
809s and then it is the 120 yeah in the inner
812s survey earlier they were completely tied
813s together and that's not the truth that's
815s not true
816s we pulled with pole construction we
817s looked at all yeah but if we only put
820s the effort into reworking the
821s construction it makes sense yeah to add
823s a 122 as well yeah I know no a lot of
828s people pointed at treasure hunter and
829s things like that the reason for me to do
831s this is that when we did things like
834s mining smithing where we did things like
835s a big-game hunter stuff like that even
839s bank we worked to an extent people pop
841s in to see it they might you know it
844s might play it for a bit but if you have
845s that motivation of unlocks lots of
847s things to get off the back of this piece
848s of content
849s yeah actually keeps people playing it
851s gives you it it's more reason to play
855s runescape it has got to be a good thing
857s mining and smithing was fantastic but
859s for two years of development you know
862s some people have already got 99 some
866s people have already got all the items
867s they wanted from it and they bounced off
868s air and I think that's a shame
869s I'd love to give up people other reasons
871s because of the unlocks because of the
873s skill itself do you stick around and try
875s to get other things within that skill I
877s think it's hard to say but in retrospect
878s do you think the rework would have
881s should have taken it to 120 there is an
884s argument and I think we discussed it a
886s lot we discuss yeah we actually and also
888s we also we talked about hunter to 120 a
891s lot with planned out time but with both
895s of those cases we felt like we didn't
897s have the time or resource because monies
899s from this thing had already been on for
900s two years because we only had a certain
902s amount of time to make it land out of
903s time we felt like we couldn't hit the
905s beats of things that we want to do with
907s 120 which we are going to do with any
909s ones we do in the future which is to be
912s honest unlocks at every level
913s new ways for training like worthwhile
917s unlocks massively what milestones
919s exactly and also a form of grace period
922s and but in you know embargo whether you
924s want to call it on the achievements that
925s people still feel they can own their
926s mass escapes calm cakes that kind of
928s thing there was a thread up recently
929s that was kind of effectively matching
931s this which was really nice
933s so we don't necessarily just want to
935s throw out 120s like that anyway as well
937s we want to make sure we do them right
938s and there's good reason for that
940s and I know people have been talking
941s about slurring dungeoneering as well
942s like why don't you feel that those out
944s like in you do more with that and we are
945s I'm hoping people have seen that Slayer
947s is getting that inject not an injection
949s of not like invention to or we brought
952s our load of stuff is getting some stuff
953s added Lisa pretty frequently and there's
955s no I mean that engineering 120 is
957s already full yeah
958s it has the flaws it has the resource
959s dungeons we've added things like enemies
961s I think 150 abyssal dungeon people
963s points to villain delete dungeons in
965s terms of diminishing dungeoneering 99 to
969s 120 I think that's what people largely
970s talking about which is understandable I
972s I always thought if it is another track
974s or another way to Train but I think some
976s people who see knows am i removing that
977s cop and then the additional part of the
980s third problem you guys thought about in
982s that video of course was the war with
984s dead
984s content which in essence the summary of
990s it is you do this content and then the
992s rewards out worthwhile right yeah in
994s essence coming back again I mean I'm not
996s sure people aren't too surprised by this
997s and they felt this like we do survey
999s work on every update we do we've done
1001s that for the past about 18 months I'd
1004s say
1004s hmm and every single update even those
1007s we that we now have deemed to be too
1009s rewarding things like herring farm came
1011s out with the feedback from that survey
1012s of it's not rewarding enough just think
1014s doesn't give me a reason to train why
1015s should I bother this is death
1016s content-based phrase is keep on coming
1019s up over and over again and there's a
1020s really good reason for that and timber
1022s ice alright talk too much one of the
1026s reasons is how we roll players yes we do
1029s not look to out mode any of our previous
1031s rewards yeah I think speaking as game
1033s the hunter we we tried to make sure
1036s every single bit of content and every
1037s reward is still relevant and we've been
1040s trying to keep the last 19 years worth
1042s of runescape rewards relevant in some
1044s way so when we've balanced content in
1047s the past we've given very small upgrades
1048s upgrades that don't feel significant to
1051s players but are statistically or
1054s numerically important so like a 2%
1057s increase or 1% increase but that's not
1059s big enough for ya the the the effort
1064s appearing like I think one of the
1065s biggest things that
1066s please keep banging on to me about is
1068s like t90 boots 1000 boots are too hard
1071s too expensive be greatly fast aren't
1074s worth while I'm sure Shani would agree
1075s with me as well I would up until elite
1077s engines came out yeah it's kind of sweet
1080s though I never went that's what that's
1083s one of them one of the things we added
1085s to try and alleviate that problem but
1086s when they when it come when they cuz
1087s we've got the least they've tr-85
1089s boosters t90 boots but they degraded
1091s back to 285 it was worth it technically
1094s but it wasn't worth the cost
1095s so it wasn't dead content but it was
1098s like still like a zombie content it was
1101s love value for them yeah so I think I
1104s think with this problem and I'm Matt I'm
1106s I said in the video I'm gonna say now
1108s anyway is that we won't be releasing any
1110s more dead content ever again have you
1113s just said okay that's about to be
1115s tuckered so let me so I think in the
1119s video but like the aim would be that any
1122s content they were release would be
1124s clearly better than any previous context
1127s long ago name yeah and we would be not
1130s as not safeguarding over the content as
1132s much as we have done in the past but on
1134s the flip it's also not the Wild West of
1136s suddenly everything is accelerating yeah
1139s we're not gonna release 1099 weapons all
1141s of a sudden yeah it's going to be
1142s thought out and measured but yeah so the
1146s definite fits well obviously very open
1150s statement in that is bold that's fair
1153s enough so for a definition when I asked
1156s you the question of what is considered
1159s dead content the sawmill training in
1165s Rock okay
1166s completely dead content but the
1170s definition of dead content or what is
1172s dead content like out of them in-game
1174s because the definition think on this
1176s content that players don't use or don't
1177s value or don't think it's worthwhile
1178s when the training skills during combat
1180s or making money or but we're
1183s specifically talking about updates yes
1185s becoming launching as dead on launch
1188s okay dead on arrival yeah yeah so like
1192s if we if we released a brand new hunt
1194s method right now it would be better than
1197s whatever it is around it
1198s it was clearly different not not 2%
1202s better not 5% better not well maybe it
1205s gives more it would be demonstrably
1207s better than than what is currently and I
1209s is the emphasis for future stuff coming
1212s that's future content yes yeah and when
1214s did that come into play just that so
1215s this is this is something that is worth
1217s making clear because I think the mixed
1220s messages from us must be crazy right now
1222s it's it's a little bit yeah it must be
1224s that it so the the decision to go this
1227s way and all of this came in probably
1229s about two months ago mm-hmm I would say

1232s that so first of all this was moving in
1236s a way what it is is we are looking to
1241s manage our XP curves properly and we're
1244s managing how we're accelerating in each
1245s of those points first of all like Clara
1247s and farm changes something published
1249s talk about our own farm changes is even
1252s beyond that progressive balancing of
1254s whatever we want to call it that we're
1255s putting out there even even as current
1257s it's way beyond that
1259s yeah if we wanted to go above that we'd
1262s have to be able to be stepping
1263s ludicrously higher so we're still not
1266s going to be afraid to take things down
1268s if it is not fitting our plans mm-hmm
1270s but I think that we are going to be more
1273s generous than we have been over the past
1275s six months I think okay oh so apologies
1279s that has come across as mixed messages
1280s about the emphasis of it is and the
1284s summary is in essence new content coming
1287s in will be essentially shifted in that
1290s sense where there will be pretty good
1293s will be valuable in its own bracket and

1299s stuff that's already in game just
1300s remastered it's not going to be new
1302s stuff new stuff comes in molding
1304s everything if we look at like a
1305s mid-level boss yeah if we remastered
1309s let's say KPD and then kbd becomes the
1312s top loot for that mid-level in five
1313s years time we might remaster QbD a event
1317s something said okay okay just to clear
1319s up okay cool okay I realize that took 35
1327s minutes 20 20 20 minutes okay I feel I
1330s need to bring ash
1331s it's kind of been sitting on tour to

1360s backend it's gone really well a lot of
1363s people have tried it and it seems to be
1366s coming along really nicely I think
1368s there's still a few areas where we can
1371s kind of make some changes obviously but
1375s it's actually it appears to be retaining
1378s a lot more people than just kind of
1379s dropping them off and letting them go so
1382s that's a lot not positive we're hoping
1385s we can kind of stretch it a bit further
1387s obviously we've stopped with just birth
1389s up but I don't know Anne Tolley sorry
1394s it's because they're now the one that
1397s little landmass section but the the
1401s original aim was to go into Lumbridge as
1403s well or redo some of it on lumbridge and
1406s further that on and slowly sort of
1409s release the player into their
1412s exploratory kind of gameplay rather than
1416s being very sore hand-holding and stuff
1417s as it is in the very beginning so
1419s summary about them is because no you
1421s guys are happy how how it's going you
1423s guys can I'll crack on correct more
1425s friends yes I believe you have imagery
1428s of some sort show us is why I would like
1430s to hope so if John will give you the
1432s give you the big thumbs up and you're

1438s about mobile so last week we dropped a
1441s big UI overhaul for mobile and this is
1446s the imagery that you will see when you
1449s first load in on excellent inventory I
1451s am the book a pirate this is my my test
1456s circuit
1457s I think it's like mod Shogun's personal
1460s account that I've kind of flat
1462s I probably I'll leave it like a slightly
1464s more high-level account just to test a
1468s few bits and pieces of them so annoying
1471s I don't have any before shots but this
1473s is kind of the new layout and the style
1474s that we're kind of going for on mobile
1476s we're trying to keep it really clean so
1480s sorry I lunge a bit so yeah it's pretty
1482s but obviously you have all the
1484s interfaces up at the moment just to
1485s clarify they are all about yeah yeah
1487s yeah so this is kind of what you'll see
1489s if you first load up and there are ways
1491s of getting some getting rid of some bits
1492s and pieces and there is a bit more to
1494s show but this is the initial kind of
1497s load up of mobile you'll see you can
1499s hide the chat for example yeah yeah I've
1502s got I've got a few pictures John if you
1504s wanna go to the next one so the next
1507s image is this is if this is our combat
1510s layout so essentially all it is is you
1514s press the sword icon down the left these
1517s ability bars kind of pop up and then
1520s you've kind of got quick fire action bar
1523s here your throat your thumb area to tap
1526s on those nicely and then down the bottom
1529s underneath the Globes the bars is your
1532s essentially a revolution bar it's a
1535s revolution bar and then and then a
1537s manual action bar on top yet so the
1539s revolution bar will just tick along as
1540s it does normally as you have revolution
1542s on which is your main main bar as you
1546s would on desktop and then you can kind
1548s of just queue in the bits on your thumb
1549s on your thumbs and the abilities above
1551s to just sort of queue goes in and get
1554s this to fire off hasn't went so I saw
1555s just from free back obviously on the UI
1558s itself and the one thing obviously is
1559s quite different is of course the globe's
1561s as we call them yes one yeah so one
1563s thing I did see is we label in values
1566s your prayer and something points but the
1567s bars don't have a number it's that
1569s Danny's gonna change I've done that
1572s change that change was done and I think
1574s I'm doing it today yesterday my days
1578s have emerged into kind of like one like
1580s weekly day thing so I don't know what
1583s I'm working on but yeah those are
1585s changing that was actually brought up
1588s before we went live but we never had an
1590s opportunity to fix it up until now and
1593s we and players have given feedback to
1595s say we work in numbers we don't work in
1598s bars so those numbers will be coming
1600s back don't worry about that one so yeah
1604s that's kind of the combat layer you'll
1605s see on the right hand side obviously
1606s I've hidden all of the the child windows
1608s and stuff that you see to the backpacks
1610s now hidden and stuff mr. Devine is the
1612s final button relate to pass or yes okay
1615s so that's the activity tracker cool so
1618s that I've don't have anything actually
1620s as a recommendation or a path actually
1621s but active so it's saying would you like
1624s to find some something else for you to
1626s track so John if you want to just move

1640s left where the number six is on the top

1888s and icons there wasn't but those who
1893s were not we could probably put all those
1895s back in to make it easier to see

1898s you swap between desktop and mobile to
1900s so you know what you're looking at

1904s feedback was coming in about like they
1905s would love to hide certain prayers or

2012s and it kind of been scrolling and you're
2014s like no I wanted to eat my shark or eat
2016s drink my potion you're sliding on a
2019s scroll bar and it's suddenly now showing
2022s all the four options on the bottom but
2025s saying that there has been a lot of
2028s feedback from players and that's saying
2030s that they'd liked it there so I think
2033s we're gonna take another look at it
2034s don't hold me to it it might not come to
2037s fruition but we are going to have
2039s another look at it to see if there is
2040s anything that we can do to sort of bring
2044s something back up to the top level

2445s was quick chat ever to save it on mobile

2459s keyboard doesn't quite number heavy we
2461s never got it to truly work when it came
2464s into mobile so it has been disabled for

2473s of our core experience stuff because it
2475s is a core part of gates as well so we're
2480s hoping that we can roll quick quick

2485s comes around because it is a somites

2490s rather than having to hatch you type our
2492s message on a mobile which obviously with
2494s with it being on landscape you get a
2496s full-blown keyboard on your screen which
2499s is quite hard to sort of sometimes type

2502s items from the inventory to the action

2733s DPS modifications and that meant that
2735s actually when you kind of circle
2737s background to the aims of the project to
2739s have diversity or again small skills

2742s optimized the weapon that gave the most

2747s original name of diversity was kind of
2750s compromised a little bit I do want to
