You can play on mobile and using the jagex launcher now.
What is the use of the Jagex Account name?
Is this used for anything at all from a user point of view or is authentication always going via your Jagex account's email?Imagine if the first player to enter the beta chose "Zezima" for example as their Jagex account name. I know it won't affect the actual RSN Zezima, but what benefit does this name offer for this player's Jagex account? Is it simply an indicator which is not used anywhere other than your own Jagex client?
If you read the blog post you can see during the step by step guide what the webpage says. Basically it's a name we will use when contacting you, similar to how RuneScape account emails work now.
In the future, there is the potential that it could be used similarly for other services for friends etc. but we aren't currently working on that sort of system.
For now, it's private to you as described.
