131s service using bonds and it allows play
134s to summon Vic the trader at times when
136s it's convenient for them so the reason
138s we're doing this in the past a lot of
140s people told us they've got you know
141s unused bonus xp and skills that they
144s don't need it and stuff like that and
145s this came you know a lot off the back of
147s some of the things we've done with
148s treasure hunter and they wanted an
151s outlet for that so we we had to think
154s about what's the best way we can do that
155s so we've kind of made Vic into a kind of
158s convenient portable form so yeah there's
161s details of how it works in the in the
163s news posts mob cams probably got a bit
165s more detail about how you know what the
167s mechanics of it are yeah sure so it's
169s pretty simple it's it's gonna come back
171s the same way you do with any kind of
172s bond redemption type things so once you
174s have a bond in your inventory you can
175s then redeem it which will open up the
177s interface and from that you will be able
178s to get a summoning stone and using the
181s summoning stone you can summon Vic which
183s would be would basically work exactly
184s the same way
185s pick the trader does but it'll be the
187s portable trader it's the way it's kind
189s of the name we've dubbed it at the
190s moment it'll be slightly boosted on your
193s first use so it's it's kind of like an
194s extra reward for for using the service
196s but this doesn't interfere with any
199s plans we have to run the free BIC The
201s Vic will still come back will still come
203s back still be available this is just
204s just for players who died need to burn
209s through some XP now some folks XP know
211s so i did--when i mentioned i'll say that
214s we're very when we come in i are on the

280s have a focus on things that players are

288s can be either earned or paid for and if
291s they're successful then we'll
293s reintroduce them as permanent options so
295s it's worth pointing out with the Vic
296s thing this is gonna be for a four-week
298s period to start off with and then like
300s we said if it's popular then we'll bring
302s it back permanently and then over time
305s you know these things work and we see an
308s improvement then you know it might mean
309s we can you know because we've come
311s become quite dependent on treasure
312s hunter and we you know we know that
315s players have had concerns about that and
317s we want to deal with it so this is the
320s you know one of the first steps that
321s we're making to tackle that
323s so the Solomons kind of factored in as
325s well you know as of late that we were on
327s a competition where we yeah and I think
332s we're gonna look at new ways of getting
336s that content into the game and
338s especially with you know how to access
340s that stuff on mobile there'll be some
341s changes that we're making later in the
343s year so you know some exciting stuff
345s going to happen there awesome I just
348s want to touch upon ideas for things such
350s as double xp weekend yeah yeah I think
355s there's a new type of weekend that we're
358s planning in May is it that's going to
360s happen in May so who wants to talk about
363s the mechanics of that one yeah we like
370s the idea of taking the voice of Saron
372s effects that you've got from top city
374s and kind of applying it to the whole
375s game world so the idea that you would
377s have certain skills or certain kind of
379s categories of skills in focus and it
381s given time which might mean there's
383s increased XP maybe increased kind of
385s almost them winter weekend style buffs
387s that kind of thing but in certain hours
389s or certain time periods then it moves
391s over to another
391s that means we hopefully will get Blatz
393s of people who are jack-of-all-trades you
394s know like moving from one skill to
395s another over the course of the day and
397s the aim being there's kind
399s kind of fun yeah a bit variety social
402s you you are bits yeah takes over to like
404s mining Oh ever and then everyone's in
406s the mining cabins or Webber yeah all
408s chained to each other as they mine and
410s then they will move on to agility I
417s really like the idea of like waiting for
420s that out that like that timed her it
422s took over presumably you get some sort
425s of message and I think it's um you can
429s reduce it but that's it's similar
430s overlay that's right yeah have we got

435s so you mentioned I'm see kind of in the
437s same vein as like winter weekends is

716s you guys consider to be toxic so we can

722s see nonsense being said and stuff like

728s hoping to get to play one member of the
730s players poor team on to kind of go into
732s detail on those blogs so you guys could

735s lot more openness in that regard from
737s these guys which is very exciting

746s impact on PC developments so a couple
749s questions rattle off years I think is
750s very important to hammer home on this
752s some mobile updates have affected the
754s experience desktop users having game is
756s there more of a plan to stop this
757s happening as much all we've been talking
761s about that lot stay actually so don't
763s you know there will be things that we're
765s trying to tackle that will have an
767s impact on desktop about we're trying to
768s be really careful with that with things
771s that that change the way people play the
772s game so if there's anything that's going
774s to impact sort of systems and the way
777s people are used to doing things then
779s we'll be very careful to get that in
780s front of people to have a look at first
782s and we'll you know we'll talk about it
785s rather than just drop it in the game and
786s you know so where that's happened you
788s know we should sort of hold our hands up
790s and say sorry you know that's
791s unintentional but there are lots of
793s changes happening you know because
795s cramming a whole you know complex game
797s like runescape into a mobile is
800s huge challenge so yeah just kind of bear
803s with us but at the same time you if
806s there are some changes that we've made
807s on mobile that aren't on desktop and you
809s really like them these do say do let us
811s know because I think there is some
813s awesome stuff and you we do want to make
815s sure that yeah yeah we're not upsetting
817s the kind of desktop experience but we're
819s also fairly confident that these will
822s actually be some things that play as one
823s on desktop as well I mean if we look at
827s some of the stuff that's come out of
827s mobile that's actually helped on the
829s desktop experience I mean you have the
831s Lewton interface update where it's now
833s colored on desktop according to the
835s value you get in the loop value and of
836s course I'm mobile that's more detail but
838s that's just one little thing then you go
839s from there these are the little things
840s to kind of add up as well so I mean it's
842s some stuff allow which is I think
844s awesome to have and very important to
846s highlight we've had this question many a
848s time before by that what is the status
850s on iOS for mobile well we will the
857s intention is to have both Android and
859s iOS versions at launch so that will
861s happen in terms of when we'll have the
863s first versions to test on iOS I can't
865s give Bates yet but it's in development
867s it's coming along really well it looks
869s really good
869s so yeah it's it's exciting stuff but in
873s terms of yeah when it's a bit early to
875s say yet because it's still loads of work
876s it's one of the scenarios way ously if
878s we could chop a hole we would I mean
879s there's no reason for us to keep
881s something like that quiet cuz we only
882s appeal for them but it's about getting -
885s I guess and now that in - yeah hope he's
891s not running throughout them no no and
894s now that the beta cap has been raised
896s for Android what are the next steps for
897s runescape on Android sorry I was being
903s asked to look here by someone and then

916s been worked on at the moment is around
917s the the user interface and tackling the
920s challenges of that on mobile so still
922s you know lots of work happening there's
924s there's so much of the game that needs
925s to be looked at to work well on mobile
928s so so that's where most of our attention
930s is at the moment I
931s it's an 18 year old game yes massive in
934s regards to everything that in there you
936s have content still in the game from 2004
938s for example then has to be polished up
939s and every feels kalbi just to bring you
941s up to speed the question was next steps
943s for one skip an android but i think you
945s know what's actually really exciting is
947s it's bringing about some new stuff in
950s terms of how it looks and how it feels
951s and just making the whole thing feel a
953s bit more alive and more modern and you
955s know in a respectful way so it's not
957s like we're gonna change it so you don't
959s recognize it but it will kind of bring
961s it to you know make it exciting for new
963s players who are going to see it for the
964s first time so it's cool cool alright

976s the best thing I can say is to reiterate
977s what I said on stream last week which is
979s the design itself is in the works I had
983s a message that I write now just as the
985s stream ended last Tuesday so it was good
986s tiring but yes the design is in the
988s works and we don't want to say we're
992s gonna be doing X Y & Z unless it's
993s absolutely certain because I mean that
995s would not help in any way whatsoever but
997s yes the topic is there and it is
1000s acknowledged but that's about baseline
1002s as I can be on that one for now I think
1004s I believe my jack is on discord talking
1006s about yes moaning yeah so if you have

1017s accommodate the new player experience a
1020s lot is that I think it's fair to say
1022s we're we've over like definitely like
1026s the rest of this year we're gonna be

1034s or to mobile you were you hoping that
1037s will you will get you brand new audience
1040s mobile audience and you it's definitely
1042s something where we're dressing I think
1044s you'll see changes throughout the year
1048s iterations improvements to the first you
1050s are the first time user experience
1053s yeah it's about you know what the
1055s players see on that first day of playing
1057s in the game and what what what is it
1059s that makes them come out the next day so
1061s that that's the thing we really need to
1062s crack is like get people back the second
1064s and then take it from there so we're
1066s putting a lot of attention on you know
1067s what what you know happens that early
1069s part the game and and how how the flow
1072s works and you know how do you teach
1074s people how to play runescape yes yeah
1076s the important part of that is actually
1079s representing runescape as the game I
1081s think you if kindness sometimes built in
1084s the many kinds of tutorials and stuff
1086s we've done in the past that maybe the
1088s tutorial is teaching players about a
1090s slightly different game and then you
1091s release them into the quite world space
1095s of like what do i do like there goes
1099s beyond the to tour doesn't it yeah you
1100s know it's what happens after that are
1102s really important as well that's where I
1104s mean I mean if we look at brief I say
1107s recent in like the last six nine months
1109s I mean tutorial Island coming back in an

1114s tutorial but it's now of course tutorial
1116s islands with steps Stephanie something

1121s a good yeah we're definitely looking at
1122s we've done a lot on tutorials in the
1124s past are kind of next steps are to look
1126s beyond the tutorial but we will based on
1129s how well that goes then we're probably
1131s at some stage probably look better

1136s monitor you play progression through the
1138s game and make decisions based on that
1141s now suppose I you look at their main
1143s storyline is a closed environment you're
1145s obviously kind of forced on what you do
1147s and then of course when you release them
1148s into the big bad wild of the game it's
1150s like okay this is yeah there's a lot to

1152s yeah what is your strategy to bringing
1156s in new players to runescape and okay

1161s does that kind of tie into the first
1163s question I guess their opening game
1164s experience really yeah yeah I mean in
1167s terms of bringing players in I mean once
1169s someone that she joins the game we're
1171s trying to make you the best experience
1174s possible for them I think we I think
1176s most people know that there's a number
1178s of issues there so we're looking to
1181s improve on there will be very much
1182s looking at you you play progression I
1184s said and you may be doing a/b tests and
1188s stuff there and testing it out and
1189s making changes and iterating upon that
1192s obviously you for us
1194s kind of like mobile is a very big
1197s of hey we're opening the game out to a
1199s new platform so we're hoping to you
1202s you've been in the game to a big new
1205s audience there so that is a big kind of
1206s like milestone for ourselves like we
1208s really want to get the the new pirate
1212s experience kind of top notch and time
1214s for them yeah I'm so working towards
1216s that so that's kind you that's a that's
1219s a big kind of like goal but all those
1223s changes aren't just from overall
1224s therefore desktop as well so we expect
1226s to see you know the improvements would
1228s be for both platforms we expect to see
1230s you like new players coming into desktop
1233s being having a much nicer experience as
1236s well and what will the company do if
1239s mobile doesn't attract as many new
1241s players has hoped well I think with that
1244s we're pretty confident because when you
1246s look at the the launch of old school and
1248s how well that's done we've got really
1250s good data on how that's performed and
1253s you know that all the indicators are
1255s that we will you know see a good number
1258s of new players incoming so you know
1261s we're really confident based on how old
1263s schools performed and you know we're
1264s hoping with runescape you know it's
1265s going to do even better so yeah awesome
1269s and maybe a question few here was born
1272s what will we receive news about the
1274s summer update or the upcoming care
1276s package as quest ease that room for
1277s excited questions yeah summer update you
1281s you might be surprised to hear that we
1283s have got something planned but we don't
1285s have they'll be released in the summer
1288s we you know we want to pick the right
1291s time stroke that out at the times now
1292s it's it's sexy we're very excited about
1301s it but yeah I'm sure they'll be all the
1302s kind of road to X you know to get you
1306s excited and things like that but what's
1308s the second party coming Caravan jazz
1310s quest yeah yeah the law council are
1312s still really interested in telling
1313s stories about jazz Sin Cara pack we
1315s haven't got anything kind of in the
1316s works for them yet but we have got kind
1319s of core series stories to tell in the
1322s near future so yeah keep an eye on
1324s awesome is there any update I mean very
1327s open-ended question is but is there any
1328s update to the game tech system in the
1330s world
1331s I mean it's if players are expecting us
1336s to completely rewrite the Texas and
1337s that's not going to happen that's a huge
1340s technical thing and it was completely
1342s changed what is runescape really however
1346s you would like to look into improving
1352s the kind of things that can be done
1358s there with with the game engine that can
1359s improve that so it feels a bit slicker
1361s and more responsive but you wouldn't
1363s want to mess with any of the timings or
1364s anything because it just has impact on
1366s so many parts of the game you don't win
1368s skip the FPS that's that's that's still
1374s a massive thing and it's you is
1378s something we like to do but that doesn't
1379s you don't expect
1382s just don't expect okay I mean I think
1385s that's me do dark sky Josh yes with the
1390s modern spin rework being one of the most
1391s well-liked updates in recent memory do
1393s you have any plans to rework and update
1395s more dilapidated skills such as
1396s construction plans or plans hmm it's
1403s definitely a bit more open-ended
1408s question we have they given us like
1410s inspiration to look up yes a lot of time
1414s went into mining smithing and so you
1417s have to when we look at hey do we rework
1420s our stuff and it's not just skills
1422s there's other content in the game that
1423s we can look we look at rework and yeah
1426s it definitely it's definitely a big
1428s consideration when we're making plans on
1430s what should we work on next
1431s what should we prioritize against
1433s hundreds of other ideas that we got so
1437s yes it's definitely a consideration we
1439s haven't planned as of this time there's
1442s nothing nothing in the plans to actually
1444s do that there's maybe some other little
1445s bits there's some over here is like
1447s complicate you know like that's an area
1449s that will came to kind of rework
1452s modernize a bit by making stuff with an
1455s aim to make a fire-making just worth
1456s training give you miles day yes and
1458s we've got plans for that you know
1460s similar categories of stuff that's not
1461s maybe yeah as big as two skills which
1463s mining in smithing effectively
1464s but I mean it's not just about it's not
1466s just about skills you know they might
1469s not even be about reworking a skill and
1470s tightening as you mentioned it could
1471s just be about fine yeah yeah we've
1474s definitely got things that coming up
1475s they're doing that kind of thing yeah
1476s but for me I like personally my eyes
1478s were a bit open by morning and smithing
1480s I think there's a certain thing that I
1481s expected for mining smithing which was
1482s no good sentiment you know maybe maybe
1485s some people popping back in and then
1486s leaving again afterwards just to see
1488s what was what was there may make my own
1489s opinions that kind of thing and it
1491s definitely did more than that and that's
1493s I think that was bit of an eye-opener we
1495s didn't expect much from it necessarily
1497s it was it was great and I love what it's
1500s done to the community awesome a room
1504s Fest 2017 you announced you would be
1506s working on community-centric updates for
1508s concept art of clans in the background
1510s any update on this I mean I guess we
1513s always again keep in mind
1515s community-centric stuff in what we're
1517s doing
1517s we like to where possible build social
1520s experiences as for clans we do have some
1525s smaller stuff coming out in the near
1527s future this where you want to poke up I
1530s mean oh we all we can wait until Friday

1536s mean I think that's I mean I think

1541s again is I mean you're gonna hear a lot

1553s prioritize them against each other and

1559s these things but we can't do everything
1561s and so we we have to continue to
1563s prioritize certain things against others
1566s and you I don't either the other thing
1570s is like I don't want to create
1572s expectations that we're gonna do self
1574s you probably notice that a bit more
1576s you've done that a lot over the years we
1578s go to Memphis we talk about hey here's
1580s what our grand ideas but we do them just
1583s live streams like this that's why I'm
1585s not allowed out at the Box anymore oh

1589s and you we talk about these ideas and
1592s then even if they're just us you put one
1596s kind of little suggestion and stuff you
1598s they they gain some traction and it's
1600s good to see in one hand it's good to see
1602s what people are interested in but then
1604s sometimes these things turn into
1606s expectations that were actually gonna
1608s deliver that and that's what I want to
1610s kind of not create those a no I think I
1614s think that's a very I mean we dug
1616s ourselves into a hole in the past with
1618s expectations of XY and Z coming out so I
1620s think that's much more sensible yeah in
1623s that sense and managing those
1624s expectations of yes you can actually
1626s look forward to this yes it's gonna
1627s happen not yes you can look forward to
1629s this oh wait no we've you know it's been
1631s pushed back also and there there's a
1633s number of things that like are going on
1635s behind the scenes but we don't really
1638s want to actually talk about them until
1641s we're actually no they're they're pretty
1643s much done and we can confident that they
1645s are actually getting released because
1646s there have been times where we've worked

3421s these assets and what we need to what
3425s we're looking to do is actually get rid
3428s of them all and have it so we've got
3429s some base assets though you can still
3431s add variations to but it also means that
3435s when you're updating
3436s graphically updating mass it updates to
3438s them across the worlds of thing so we're
3440s looking to they're better asset
3441s management and that would whilst it kind
