11s was amazing um mod Marcos is here with

18s you good good yeah it's uh I think um
22s there's a lot to talk about today but
23s I'm excited I think I'm pretty I'm still
26s pretty buzzed up from that stream to I
28s don't know about you but like it's been
30s a fun week uh for runescope that's for
32s sure e yes it's it's been busy that's
35s what I say been very busy the last few
37s weeks yeah yeah there been a lot
39s building up to it for sure um and then
41s also just to introduce one other guest
43s before we get into it with me and maros
46s U mod Jack is with us hey mod Jack it's
47s been a while since we let you loose on
49s Discord yeah I'm uh I'm excited to get
52s back to talking far too much the subject
54s of the show is to let you get to know
55s Marcus a little bit and also um to talk
58s a little bit about what's been going on
59s at the studio um but given that Marcos
61s has been with us for what is it a month
63s or so now Marcos something like that
66s been working with us around that yeah I
67s think it's I think it's about like three
69s four weeks something like that yeah so
71s given that Marcus has assimilated a lot
74s in a four-week period but um you know we
76s thought it'd be good to have my Jack
77s here as well especially talk about some
79s things around last year and kind of some
80s of the things we took forward as well so
82s um all right I guess we'll get into it
85s um chat hello by the way we see you um
88s some people talking about modm Mark us
90s here save the game um so some people
92s already hyping you up in chat Marcos
94s which is really really cool um so let's
96s get a little bit to know you first I
99s think Marcus firstly like how are you
100s feeling after that road map reveal where
103s are you sitting right now yeah I feel
105s good I think that obviously before you
107s do a you know it's a fairly big deal
109s wasn't it the live stream but you always
111s have a bit of nerves around like um we
114s we thought the road map was good we
115s obviously never know exactly how people
116s are going to respond to it and so on so
119s um really pleased to see like that
120s generally it seems to be like the
122s response has been really positive from a
124s large percentage of the community um and
128s H hopefully it managed to kind of
129s surpass people's kind of expectations I
131s guess in terms of going into that
133s because I realized there been a somewhat
134s fow fallow period in recent months and
137s then now obviously the main challenge is
139s really with us to make sure we actually
140s deliver on it because actually putting
142s together a road map graphic and so on is
143s the easy bit actually building it and
145s making sure we uh the updates are really
147s good and we keep like delivering them to
148s the players is like the key thing now
151s yeah it's funny you mention about like
152s the nerves going in CU I think all of us
154s were like looking at the road map and
157s going this is really good right yeah
158s this is PR good right like yeah I think
160s it is I think players go love this right
161s and everyone's just like nervously like
163s wanting it to be amazing and kind of
166s exceed people's expectations obviously
167s that always the hope but like there was
170s that kind of everyone at the year going
171s we think it's good we hope play like you
174s just never know do you until you go out
175s and stream and it's uh it's a weird spot
178s to be isn't it mentally it's like just
180s hoping you've got things right and that
182s you've put together something
183s amazing yeah and kind of as the we were
185s doing the stream OB so we could see bits
187s of the chat coming through from twitch
189s and so on so you could get an idea about
191s bits of it and then the other thing you
193s probably don't realize when you're
194s watching it is that room is really
195s really warm so it's actually like a bit
197s like of a weird experience generally um
199s but yeah it was really good and then you
201s have the slightly um of met experience
203s of like the when when I finished my bit
205s of the live stream I kind of came off
207s and came out and chat to some of the
208s team and stuff but then they were watch
210s ing reaction videos to it and stuff like
212s that cuz we're obviously following quite
213s closely how the community responding to
214s it and it was weird like watching bits
216s of myself being played back and stuff
217s it's all very
218s odd yeah yeah it's um it was funny as
222s well because like I was in the as in
224s there I was just desperately trying not
225s to look down the whole time at the chat
227s so we had it on that little iPad in
228s front of us and all I wanted to do is
229s stare at chat and out of the corner of
231s my eye I could maybe just see it moving
233s at a million miles an hour but I've seen
234s it move at a million miles an hour when
236s we've like caused people to Panic by
238s something so other time I was just going
241s I hope they that's a good sign like I
243s have no idea um but yeah thankfully it
246s went down really well which is good um
248s so speaking of that stream obviously we
250s we kind of briefly introduced you uh on
252s the stream you talked a little bit about
255s being from the Jurassic era I think you
257s put it of of RuneScape uh and then
259s obviously you you've been executive
261s producer on old school now you're partly
263s on RuneScape again um so like what what
267s is your background on RuneScape like
269s where what before you were on osrs as as
271s executive producer what were you doing
272s on RuneScape what was your role and and
274s kind of how what's your history with
275s jagex yes so I worked at um I've worked
278s at jagex for many many years and the
281s when I first joined the company I was
283s working on um RuneScape so and I was
287s mostly focused more on like the
288s editorial side of the game uh with a
290s couple of people that the community
292s might know but I've forgotten the mod
293s names of but um I have worked with like
295s I worked with modj quite a bit before
297s like many years ago as well so I worked
299s mostly on like the editorial side um
301s also work quite a lot on kind of like
303s doing work on like the website and
305s things as well and then kind of
307s gradually moved into more of a
308s production role so I worked with like
309s various teams in RuneScape and then I
311s went on to various different products on
314s uh um uh jagex so I worked on I spent
317s quite a few years working on Chronicle
319s which um great enjoyed so the late
322s lamented Chronicle so I worked on that
324s for a number of years and then I worked
326s on various other projects um uh and then
329s kind of went back to um I started I did
332s a load of work on Old School in like
333s 2019 and then went back to Old School
335s like permanently in
337s 2021 and I've been like EP on Old School
339s since then and nowly leading the
341s RuneScape team as well so this is my
343s first time working back on RuneScape in
345s quite a few years now actually um uh but
349s yeah obviously working on R escape and
350s old school is it's pretty busy I would
352s say but I've been really enjoying it so
354s far in particular um it's been good to
356s work with people again like my Jack and
358s so on but also being have a chance to
359s get to uh new meet new people on the
361s RuneScape scam like yourself muli and um
365s some of the other uh devs and the
367s designers in the artists and things of
368s that I've actually had a chance to work
369s with the first time I've never met
371s before it's been really
372s fun awesome yeah it's uh it's I I
376s actually didn't know you worked on
377s Chronicle which is is a wild one so
379s you've really been around the houses on
381s like you're you're kind of a RuneScape
382s franchise Master at this point to be
384s honest descri like near all sides of the
388s business at various points yeah yeah so
391s uh obviously um you just kind of
393s mentioned it so there was some I saw in
395s the chat um looking back at the stream
398s just just for for clarity for everyone
400s like you're still working on old school
401s as well right it's just you're working
402s on across both games at the moment
404s that's correct right that's correct I'm
406s working on both games at the same time
408s yeah yeah I don't know how you sleep to
410s be honest I don't know how you find time
412s for it
416s um there's a lot to consider
419s yeah it's good it's good uh and I guess
422s uh to just to go back a little bit we're
424s talking about Chronicle and everything
426s what did you most enjoy working on back
428s in your original time rcap CU rcap
430s veterans have been through a lot of
432s content in their da so like is there
434s anything that stood out to you when you
436s look back on on working on rcap that you
438s loved working
439s on yeah I think that see it was a long
442s time ago like some of the details are
443s lud me but the um overall the thing I
446s remember most was it was just like a
449s really exciting time to be working at
450s the studio when I first joined like the
452s game was like really really popular then
454s um and there was uh it was kind of an ER
457s of like quite a lot of classic contents
459s and stuff going out I think was quite a
461s lot of like some of the main like margar
462s quests and stuff were being worked on
463s that kind of stuff and the um generally
467s is like a really good Buzz working there
469s so um I really enjoyed kind of working
471s on in the in the games industry because
472s I've been like a big games player for
474s like you know many many years like since
476s I was a really young child um and I
479s think the the other thing I was
480s reflecting on earlier when we were kind
482s of like talking and stuff was the the
484s fact that when I look back at it now I
485s kind of think also about how RuneScape
488s and Jag X as a whole was really like
489s quite you know quite Innovative and
491s ahead of the game and stuff and the way
492s that the game works and it was
493s distributed and like you know even like
495s the way you subscrib to the game like
497s completely digitally and stuff like that
498s was like really quite Cutting Edge at
499s the time and quite a few years ahead of
501s many other games I'd say um and I also
503s feel like when I think back at it I kind
505s of took it for granted at the time but
506s actually things like the way that the
508s developers interacted with the community
509s stuff was really like again quite
511s pioneering and original and um again
514s there something the the games Ser kind
516s of replicated a lot over the years but
518s being involved in that I found like
519s pretty exciting as well because you know
521s could you could wander around the office
522s and you'd see the developers would just
523s be on this was back in the day of the
525s RuneScape forums being like unbelievably
526s busy pre-edit and stuff so you'd see all
529s the devs actually on the for like
530s reading the comments replying to the
532s players and like getting feedback
533s directly and stuff as well it really it
534s was a really fun time it is is do you
537s know it's interesting cuz like I still
539s think even now it's a bit of an anomaly
541s studios I've worked out before here the
544s idea of developers kind of having the
545s freedom to just go out and talk to
546s players is like a hard no for for a lot
549s of places does not to say anything bad
551s about those places it's just like that
553s was something that I came here and it
554s was just really really cool was like oh
557s anyone can just go out and put a tweet
559s out and say hey what do you think of
560s this and what do you think of that we
562s shut down you know full honesty um you
565s know I think when back in 21 there was a
568s bit of a whoa there's maybe a few too
570s many things being said too early and and
572s being talked about a bit prematurely and
574s we kind of wound back a bit but I hope
576s last year it felt like we kind of had
578s our devs out there a lot more if you're
579s listening Out There community um because
582s we kind of try to to encourage our devs
584s to be like okay maybe we maybe we Ranger
586s it a little bit too much here because
587s it's a bit of a magic of RuneScape right
589s it's a it's a pretty unique thing across
591s both games really um that that to have
595s devs out there like that and I love it
597s uh Doom keeps people in check true
601s is very true that is part of uh doom and
603s I are here to enable as much as keep
606s people in check though so uh yeah it's
608s the whole thing by the way I don't know
610s if you're seeing this chat Marcos but
612s like this is one of the most wholesome
614s RuneScape chats we've gone down T about
616s Bob's axes and if you are older than
618s Bob's axes in terms of experiencing
620s gillor um I don't know if you like that
622s comparison someone was talking about
624s armies of GW I did do work on fun or so
626s yeah I I played arm of Gore and um
630s orb defense was probably my favorite if
631s the people who played fun
633s or God fun or that's throwback next
636s you're going to startop mentioning mini
637s clip and then I'm going to get proper
638s flashbacks oh yeah yeah okay I'm going
641s to do the classic it's an important part
644s getting to know you maros right I'm
645s going to do the classic thing you got to
647s pick something your favorite child not
649s between RS and RRS cuz that would just
651s be cruel but what's your favorite thing
654s about RuneScape if you had to pick what
656s stands out to you most yeah I think with
659s RuneScape
660s I think the things I've always liked
661s about it in particular is just like the
662s uniqueness of the character and the tone
664s of the game like it's see because I
666s worked with the developers and stuff and
668s I knew them you could kind of see them
669s almost like in the content and stuff and
671s I always found that like really
671s fascinating but like I think the
674s um the unique character of the game and
677s the tone and the humor and all that kind
678s of stuff obviously is like particularly
680s like important and stuff like that I
681s think most of the time I've spent in
682s game has been focused around mostly
685s questing and Skilling I think because
687s I'm not very good at combat or anything
689s the PVP kind of moderately terrifying as
690s well um and generally I've grown up a
693s lot playing a lot of RPGs and things
694s particularly more like open
697s World um RPGs so things like oblivia and
700s stuff like that are kind of like the
701s games I really love and uh there's quite
703s a lot of similarities I think between
704s those kind of games and rcap a lot of
706s shared DNA uh yeah so RuneScape I think
708s the things I've spent the most on is
710s probably like what I've described as
711s like the Eternal Loop of wood cutting
712s and fire making so I spent lots of time
715s basically constantly cutting that down
717s and I find that just kind of like a
718s soothing relaxing experience which I
720s just quite enjoy doing even though I
721s realize it's somewhat
722s mundane a I get that like when I look
725s back and some people in chat said it as
727s well especially around like Nostalgia
729s and everything the thing that I always
730s remember is like being a younger boy uh
733s and playing the game and like you know
736s Finding every hour of the day I could to
737s do it you know waking up at like 5:00
739s a.m. to when mining resources weren't
742s were you know shared and you had to
744s compete with other people getting up
745s with my friends so that we could go M
747s certain things but the thing that always
749s frows back i' be interested chat if this
751s is the same for you there are certain
753s songs I have an association with that
755s remind me of certain things in RuneScape
757s there are certain songs in my life that
759s I still listen to now that if I hear
760s them I immediately think oh I'm walking
762s from Lumby to verac right it's like a
765s trigger and it just BRS like yeah I see
768s people in chat saying the thing right um
771s and it's it's crazy it's like a it just
773s brings you back to the moment like um it
775s can do for a memory in your life outside
777s the game as well um and that's what
780s always stands out to me is like it's the
781s only game I have that association with
783s it's really really weird um which also
786s tells you that I had uh audio off which
788s I'm sorry uh audio team your audio is
790s amazing your music's amazing I mean you
792s don't no disrespect uh Lincoln Park yes
795s I've got some link Park song
796s associations as well so yeah we should
799s do something about that we should
800s celebrate that more anyway I'm going on
801s a tangent sorry um okay we should get
805s into a little bit into like what I think
807s a lot of people are here for which is a
808s little bit about
810s where we're going um and a little bit
812s about what's been going on as well I
813s think there's probably a lot to talk
814s about there and it's something that you
816s know we didn't want to necessarily bring
817s to a live stream where we want to talk
818s forwards but probably it's really
820s interesting to a lot of people who have
821s taken time to join us today firstly
824s let's talk about like you do have this
826s benefit of having worked across both
828s both games what is it you're most
829s excited to bring from how old school
832s RuneScape approaches things and also I
834s kind of want to add to that because I
835s think RuneScape does a lot of amazing
836s things too so like what's one thing
838s you're most excited to bring out of
840s RuneScape more that it already has
843s too yeah I think with um in terms of
847s things to bring it from Old School like
848s we touched this a bit in the live stream
850s the other day but I think that some of
852s it's to do with like the regularity of
854s the community interaction so it's making
856s sure that we're talking to players
857s through the development process and
859s making sure they're on the journey with
860s us so they're kind of aware of what
861s we're thinking and we can kind of OB see
863s the earlier we can kind of get like core
865s feedback and validation and stuff like
866s that the better because it means that
867s the the the content will be released in
869s the best possible shape um so some
872s things like that umly we've been talking
874s a bit separately around yeah let making
876s sure there's like regular beats of like
877s talking to the players each week giving
879s information each week about new updates
881s and things like that in terms of like or
882s talking about the previously announced
883s updates in more detail and so on so
885s that's more like blog posts and live
887s streams and so on like that so I think
888s that would be really good like bringing
890s um some of that stuff back which bcap
892s used to do and old school has kept doing
893s overo like recent years as well um the
896s other kind of things I've been looking
897s at is um and I've been working quite a
900s bit with Mod Jack on is around like the
902s things like the road map structure and
904s um how we can get that a bit further out
905s into the future and so we can
907s communicate it more earlier to the
908s players in more detail and things like
910s that so what we did the other day in
911s terms of showing like a quite detailed
913s uh road map for like the next six months
916s tended to be like quite similar to what
918s we'll do in the future um it might be we
920s keep a bit more back as a surprise in
921s the future because um uh unlike old
924s school RuneScape obviously we don't have
925s to poll everything so we can like
927s release surprise updates which can come
929s a bit out of the blue um and we
931s hopefully be like really pleasant
932s surprises for the players and stuff yeah
934s generally it's like structuring the road
935s map and like looking at how we balance
937s like the larger and the smaller updates
939s making sure that there's meaningful
940s updates going each month and avoiding
942s there being months where the only things
945s going in are kind of like quite
946s ephemeral content that kind of goes in
947s and out of the game like shortterm
949s events and that kind of stuff so I
951s trying to make sure there's a really
951s good balance of updates and also making
953s sure there's a variety of updates which
954s is one of the things we were really Keen
956s to do with the road map that we shared
957s the other day making sure I can
959s mentioned I talked earlier about
960s Skilling and questing would being like
961s my favorite thing so making sure there's
963s you know there's a good amount of quests
964s like law based content there's a lot of
967s um Skilling activities but then also
969s there's quite a lot of the pvms and so
971s on as well so all the different like
973s main player groups have' got like good
974s content they can get stuck into on a
975s regular
977s basis yeah I think um I hope that came
980s through I'll be Keen to see what chat
981s said but we I think that was something
983s that stood out to me when we're looking
985s at people talking about the road map
986s afterwards just it felt like almost
988s everything on the road map was being
990s talked about in some ways I think before
992s we've had like certain maybe certain
994s audiences you know like her pvmers or
997s something feeling super satisfied and
998s talking Lots about it we don't hear as
1000s much chatter on everything else it was
1002s really cool to see um you know questers
1005s coming out to talk about the fact that
1006s the story line was continuing and that
1008s they were going to also get seasonal
1009s quests uh we saw skillers talking about
1011s the Skilling updates and what they might
1013s might be coming with those for things
1014s like wood cutting and Fletching it's
1016s really awesome to see and um I think for
1018s me as a player I'm quite a variety
1020s player so it definitely hit me but um
1023s yeah it sounds like chat very happy uh
1026s to hear the the level of communication
1028s and also the variety so that's really
1029s awesome so it sounds like step one okay
1031s Marcos based on chat at least good stuff
1034s that's the dream yeah I think that
1036s obviously all these things it's kind of
1037s like persisting it over time is like be
1040s very challenging and a lot of work but
1041s we need to make sure we do that as best
1043s we
1044s can yeah yeah we I think you you say a
1047s phrase that I've been I've been quite
1049s some time but it's about putting actions
1051s to words right like it's one thing to to
1053s say what we're going to do and say all
1054s the right things but then we have to
1055s deliver on it right so uh I'm excited to
1058s see us do that it's going to be really
1059s really good so on that point oh sorry
1063s you go you go sorry no it's fine you go
1065s sorry I was I was going full into flow
1067s mode to keep the conversation moving um
1069s so let's talk about runc actually so
1071s obviously you kind of giv your
1073s perspective on on something you want to
1074s bring and love uh bring more out of for
1076s both games and and bring to the to
1078s RuneScape I know you've only been
1080s working on RuneScape for a very short
1081s time now but like what's your impression
1084s so far about how the team feels when we
1086s think about last year both in terms of
1088s like things that we think we could build
1090s on from last year but also things that
1092s we think were challenges or things to
1093s have learned
1095s from yeah I think that there's like last
1098s year was obviously kind of mixed I think
1099s that there was like there's some really
1101s good releases obviously released the new
1102s skill and there was lots of other like
1104s pretty like chunky updates and stuff
1105s like particular ear in the year um and I
1108s recognized that the was a more
1110s challenging period after like hero pass
1111s got released and things I think that I
1114s like the word challenging yeah I think
1116s overall the um the key thing that i'
1120s I've seen with the teams I've been with
1121s it is that fundamentally it's a really
1123s talented team like they're really smart
1124s they're very creative they got lots of
1126s really interesting ideas about stuff
1127s that we can do the main challenge is
1129s more like how I can kind of help like
1131s get off the way to let them do that
1133s rather than um overburden them with like
1135s process or whatever so the main thing I
1138s want be a to do is like empower the team
1140s more so they're actually more able to
1142s kind of make decisions about what
1143s they're making and um uh in like a
1146s coherent way obviously like so like mod
1148s Jacks obviously like got over all that
1149s kind of stuff as well but the um it's
1152s more like trying to get the team
1153s empowered so that they can like show off
1156s like you know their creativity and ideas
1158s and things they've got for the game and
1160s then in particular also like we talked
1161s about earlier is like making sure that
1162s they're doing that but it also dovetails
1164s with the you know regular talking to the
1166s community keeping players up to date
1168s about what we're working on are making
1169s sure there's really good visibility in
1170s terms of like what the upcoming updates
1172s are and so on so players know what
1173s they're getting for their subscription
1175s um and all those kind of things as well
1176s so um I think that's the key thing for
1178s me at the moment is just like almost
1180s like getting out of the way of the team
1181s and laying them just do stuff and then
1182s like um and then just supporting them
1185s where they can need um help like unblock
1187s stuff and so
1189s on right so yeah Jack just said it I was
1193s about to bring you into this Jack uh
1195s saying I'm not along like I always do on
1196s streams but no one can see me this time
1198s let's talk to you Jack as well um marus
1200s obviously gave loads of amazing insight
1202s there I hope the people in terms of what
1204s we took away from last year is there
1206s anything you would add from your
1207s perspective especially kind of obviously
1208s being lead designer that you kind of
1211s stands out to you from last year yeah I
1214s mean it's it's it's it's been an
1216s interesting year in terms of thinking
1217s about like what we delivered and what
1219s went well and what didn't go well um my
1222s main focus during last year was on was
1225s on for forign three and that's been an
1227s interesting one in terms of learning
1229s that we were we like the main priority
1232s for me was you know delivering regular
1233s content and making sure we were doing
1235s something and we were doing that and
1237s it's it's kind of an interesting project
1238s to think about in the in the community
1240s that the the updates were actually being
1242s received quite well but they kind of
1244s failed to deliver on the one key point
1246s of creating like a lot of deep gameplay
1249s for endgame players and so that's been
1251s the main takeaway for me for last year
1253s was it's really important for us to be
1255s shipping regular content but we have to
1257s be hitting that that like
1259s you know lots of longtail gameplay for
1261s everybody and so that's that's that's
1263s informed like the Skilling plan I'll be
1265s talking about more next week or the week
1266s after about what we mean by Skilling
1268s updates and how we're going to be
1269s approaching that making sure there's a
1270s lot to do so so 44 and3 for example was
1273s kind of an experiment in what if we
1275s attach a Construction level to something
1278s does that will that work and then I
1280s think the answer in retrospect is like
1281s no if you've already leveled
1282s construction you kind of feel like there
1284s wasn't really anything to do that month
1286s and and if we look back you know into
1287s the previous year that was a kind of a
1289s similar attempt as well if some like
1290s Garden of careered you know with the
1291s reward shop so it's it's a kind of about
1293s learning and so I think as maros said
1296s like that that recommitment to like
1299s working with the community making sure
1300s that
1303s we're ideally like like like the the
1307s worst case is that we put the update out
1309s we get feedback on the update we learn
1311s for the future the best case is that
1312s we're able to to um put the design out
1315s in advance and get feedback and um
1318s improve it before launch I think that's
1319s what we're all quite excited to do yeah
1322s that'd be a really good you know way to
1325s do things moving forward I'm quite
1326s excited for that yeah that was one of my
1328s favorite things about going on stream is
1330s like we kind of just if you remember the
1332s little kind of get involved thing we put
1333s at the end of it that came together
1335s super last minute CU we're like we kind
1336s of have a mini road map you know in a
1339s very small window of time of like ways
1341s we want players to be involved and we
1343s kind of sat there and realized that's
1344s actually very different for us like if I
1346s look back at last year um I was really
1349s really happy to see how much we started
1351s to try and work with players more like
1352s we took those like first steps of like
1354s Community Hit List obviously um it was
1356s really great some of our most kind of
1358s well-received updates last year was
1359s Community Hit List which was amazing to
1361s see and it just shows like how much we
1364s can gain from listening to players more
1365s and kind of being more direct with
1367s players and then like I think about
1369s necromancy most open developed skill you
1372s know we bought the players in and got
1373s those creators who really helped make
1374s necrom as good as it was at release with
1376s their feedback um I by the way my
1379s biggest regret is we didn't film that
1381s whole thing because like if you could
1382s have been a fly on the wall players to
1384s be in that room and see how much like
1386s iteration was happening like we'd have
1388s devs literally changing things in real
1389s time almost um to respond to feedback
1392s and everything it was amazing we really
1393s should have document like done a
1394s document on it or something but yeah did
1397s I got jro Hayes playing on a different
1399s build yeah and I was like oh well I've
1402s been working with sponge on a different
1404s build so let's get you let's get that
1405s one loaded up and see whether you see
1407s see what you think of it
1409s and it's like even even some smaller
1411s things like um I talked a little bit at
1412s the top of the show like we had kind of
1414s when I when I initially joined there was
1416s like um developers were a a lot more
1419s kind of timid to go out and speak
1420s because there had been kind of some
1421s instance of things being said a little
1423s bit prematurely and there was concern
1425s that like you know it's sometimes you
1426s have to talk about projects at the right
1428s time um and like there was a little bit
1430s of concern there and so players got kind
1433s of timid sorry um uh J got a little bit
1435s timid about it because they felt like
1437s they might accidentally say something
1438s they shouldn't
1439s and you know we put a big effort last
1441s year into kind of trying to enable those
1443s those uh jws to feel like go out there
1445s again it's never if you've ever felt our
1446s J have been quiet so it's never been
1448s because of them um and that's something
1450s that CM was doing last year and that was
1451s really awesome to see was like how much
1454s you know even ramman just being like hey
1455s what would you like to see for Christmas
1456s like these small little thing uh that
1459s mean a lot um happening so there was all
1461s that good stuff but then there was
1462s obviously things like the M up of hero
1465s pass right and like those sorts of
1467s things happen so it's such a weird
1469s year to look back to and actually I I
1472s guess like let's talk very briefly on
1474s hero past I think because I think it'd
1475s be a disservice to not mention it at all
1477s during this chat it's not something
1479s we've really had a chance to sit down
1481s and talk about at any point like maros
1485s since you began working on team what's
1487s your take on hero pass like what do you
1489s what do you think the team's taken I'll
1490s be ke to get your perspective on
1492s it I think the yeah CU I think that like
1496s obviously this is a bit before my time
1498s and my observ and hero pass were largely
1500s kind of like um from the sidelines kind
1503s of seeing what was happening and things
1504s I spoken some of the people uh on the
1507s team around it and things so I've been
1509s trying to get an idea about what
1510s happened I think that and I'm I'm also
1513s conscious of obviously the people
1515s working it had the right intentions and
1517s were trying to do and did like Tred to
1518s do the best possible work and things
1519s like that so but I think that the main
1521s disconnect was between like kind of
1523s expectations of versus what the reality
1525s was so I think there was was I think
1529s there was some kind of like road map
1530s reveal which entered an update in a
1532s certain month the major update yeah yeah
1535s and I think that's a lot of the issue is
1537s kind of the disconnect between what was
1539s expected versus what was delivered
1541s because generally when you see that
1542s obviously you expect to be like quite a
1543s chunky piece of like main game content
1545s or something so I think that obviously
1549s um put us into a weak position at the
1551s beginning and then obviously like what
1553s I've seen from the player feedback and
1554s stuff it didn't really meet kind of like
1555s what they're expecting from the update
1557s and so on and I think that that ties a
1559s lot into what we've been talking about
1560s around just making sure we're talking to
1562s players early with projects and getting
1564s their feedback early so we know if there
1566s is a fundamental issue of what we're
1567s building we find out early and we can
1569s like adjust it into something which is
1571s actually um in line with what players
1573s are actually wanting so yeah I think
1575s that'd be my main kind of take home from
1577s it yeah I I think something I'd also add
1580s to that as well I know like there there
1582s was a lot of discussion around things
1583s like the Buffs and obviously the the
1585s effect of removing daily challenges and
1587s and something that we really took from
1590s it was like you know if you see how we
1592s went out and and kind of talked about it
1594s we didn't see those issues um and it's
1598s they they were something that like some
1599s of had been discussed and like it the
1602s player perspective we got from that
1603s there was so much we learned about how
1605s players can see things that maybe we
1608s just hadn't considered it's not that we
1610s looked at those things and said they're
1611s not issues um it's just that like for
1614s example I think a really interesting
1615s thing that stood out to me was this idea
1616s of uh kind of paid power with the Buffs
1620s and the team kind of looking at those
1621s and saying oh these are a nice additive
1623s thing a lot of our our players are on
1625s Premier memberships are they're going to
1627s get access to this as well um and
1629s obviously everyone got access to them it
1631s was just at different charge levels you
1633s know there was consideration that went
1634s into those things but the community kind
1635s of showed us like the real response in
1638s that situation the kind of perspective
1640s that we'd missed and that's why I'm
1641s really excited for this our ability to
1643s kind of develop with players involved is
1646s yes we have a lot of hardcore players at
1647s the studio we have a lot of players at
1649s the studio and the majority of our team
1651s play uh many of them read the internet
1654s every single day um and are very very
1656s plugged into you as well as themselves
1658s as players but there's always things the
1660s players will find there's always things
1662s the players will identify that maybe we
1663s haven't considered fully or um haven't
1666s caught or whatever and it was really
1667s really interesting um to me to see that
1670s and kind of have that wow moment like
1673s you know oh we didn't how did we not
1675s catch that like oh now that they say it
1676s kind of makes sense uh I guess to your
1679s point like is there anything you'd add
1680s to that like is that am I off piece
1682s there or do you do you kind of agree I'm
1685s saying this is a community manager in
1686s the middle but yeah no I would I would
1687s definitely say like our reaction to Hero
1689s pass was essentially how did this happen
1693s like what have we like obviously we did
1694s something wrong right I don't think
1695s there's any point B bouncing around that
1697s so then the question for us is what did
1698s we do wrong how do we how do we how do
1701s we stop this we we've done the wrong
1702s thing we need to we need to make sure
1703s this doesn't happen again it's kind of a
1705s almost a mini EOC moment in that regard
1708s um and I think our our takeaway
1710s internally
1712s was we've just got to talk to the
1714s players more right um and so then that
1717s provoked a fairly intense internal
1718s discussion at every level of well how
1720s are we going to talk to the players more
1721s what does this mean to an extent it kind
1724s of forced us onto the back foot a little
1726s bit of
1730s of what how should we be talking about
1732s content does this mean that you know for
1734s example you know fairly serious question
1736s to ask it should we be adopting the old
1737s school polling system would that work
1739s better for us and so there were a lot of
1740s of internal discussions about how we
1742s should be approaching content to what
1744s extent we should be involving players in
1745s the discussion the answer as as Marcos
1748s has been reiterating is is you know we
1749s need to be involving players a lot more
1751s I think the the
1754s clear absolute takeaway I think that
1757s we're now all committed to is our
1759s priority has to be shipping like
1761s substantial regular content with the
1763s with the caveat that like for various
1766s reasons that are quite complicated to
1767s get into but for you know something like
1769s hero pass is not what we mean when we
1771s say substantial content you know we're
1772s not talking about something like that
1774s and again as marichel mentioned earlier
1775s like a temporary event does not count as
1777s substantial content something like that
1779s you know
1780s so it was an analysis of you know what
1783s what are we being told what's the
1784s feedback um how do we you know how do we
1787s avoid um doing something like this and
1791s and yeah I mean that way you know we can
1794s we can make what players want you know
1796s yeah yeah actually there was a lot of I
1798s remember there were being a lot of soul
1800s searching for all of us at the studio um
1803s cuz it's not you know if you look back
1804s especially at RuneScape yes we've had a
1806s couple of of moments that have have kind
1808s of upset the community on on a fairly
1810s big scale but like hero pass I think was
1813s just so unexpected for us there was a
1814s bit of a soul searching moment of like
1816s what led to this there was a lot of
1818s things I think we learned from it as a
1820s team and not just about the hero
1824s specifically but just about RuneScape
1826s like I I remember um Jack one of the
1829s things that kind of I always remember
1831s back on is you know daily
1834s challenges the importance of that as a
1836s kind of ritual for so many players that
1838s like you know we wanted to change and
1841s and and kind of modify and make better
1844s essentially as an experience like that
1845s was kind of the idea of the hero pass
1848s mission system is something more
1849s relative to your play and something that
1850s actually was a better experience but
1853s like that's an example something that's
1854s just embedded in how we all play
1856s RuneScape and and we kind of we kind of
1858s didn't quite I don't know if this is
1861s fair to say mod Jack but it feels like
1863s you know all of us myself included we we
1866s didn't quite put the weight on that of
1867s that ritual in our in our daily
1869s RuneScape lives that actually to some
1871s people is kind of part of what RuneScape
1873s is to them right and those SS the ways
1875s we've changed our thinking in in terms
1877s of how we look at a lot of content
1879s development now right it it reminds me
1880s of a story very very early when I first
1882s started on RuneScape I can't remember
1884s what the update was now but it was it
1885s was not long after the dung engineering
1888s and someone had made an update which
1890s just moved one
1892s tree it's not the famous Timbo example
1895s but just one of the trees had I think a
1897s tree had moved into the middle of a
1898s field or something and I remember
1899s reading a player on the Forum saying
1901s like every day for the last 5 years I've
1903s done the same Rune running course and
1904s you've just moved a tree right in the
1906s way of me this is really this is a
1908s really annoying update and it kind of
1909s reminds me of that of like RuneScape is
1911s so much about like these these these um
1915s yeah rituals as you put it making sure
1918s we are respecting that and and
1920s protecting the way that you want to play
1922s the game yeah yeah I would agree with
1923s that if you can believe it there's still
1925s things scapers to learn about you 23
1927s years in even with as many veterans as
1930s we have on the team there's always
1931s waiting to surprise us which is amazing
1933s um but yeah I do I do feel like on at
1936s least on a community side I could say
1937s for sure I feel like I understand SC was
1939s even more than I I felt I did before
1940s which is
1942s amazing right um I'm aware Marcos uh we
1945s kind of Jack and I went down the rabbit
1946s hole then talking back about the past's
1949s let's talk about this year um which
1951s you're a lot most closer to um so I
1953s think it's fair to say we touched on
1955s this a little bit oh uh just before I go
1957s any further for those of you listening
1959s live uh we are aware you have questions
1961s in the in the jod questions Channel
1964s don't worry we're going to get to those
1965s in a minute got a few more to get
1966s through on our side we'll leave some
1967s time for them don't worry um but uh mod
1971s Marcos uh you I think we touched on the
1974s stream but this year felt kind of
1976s undoubtedly different I think to have
1978s we've been usually I felt that we were a
1980s lot quieter and I felt players did as
1982s well um I think we all recognize our
1984s content can took a bit of a dip you know
1986s things just generally felt different
1987s like RuneScape felt different for a few
1989s months this year so far there's a lot of
1991s context behind that that we haven't had
1993s a chance to talk to to to the players
1995s about so let's chat about it as I know
1997s you're Keen to kind of bring players
1998s into that story what's some of the work
2001s that's been going on like what what's
2002s been going on over the past couple of
2004s months at the studio and and kind of you
2006s know why did things feel a little bit in
2008s that
2009s time there was a degree of recalibration
2012s as we kind of reexamined I guess like
2014s how
2015s we make content for the game and how we
2018s deliver it and the stuff we talked about
2019s earlier in terms of like Mak in terms of
2021s how do we get players better involved
2023s what kind of cadence you want to be
2024s hitting with the content what types of
2025s content do you want to be doing and so
2027s on so the main focus that I've had since
2029s I've been working with team in
2030s particular and this is kind of largely
2032s reflection of more my production
2034s background as I tend to look at it
2036s through that lens is more very much
2037s focused around like um how do we um how
2042s do we deliver the content on a on a
2044s regular basis and what are we delivering
2046s so and in particular just the real Focus
2048s much more on like delivering as much
2050s value as possible to the
2051s players like how can we build a road map
2053s roughly around those principles um and
2056s then when I was when I started working
2058s with the team again I was working with
2060s Mod Jack quite a bit and he he already
2062s had a lot of like strong ideas about
2063s what we can do around this so it was
2065s mostly a case of working with Mod Jack
2067s and some of the other mods in a in a
2068s small group and just like iterating the
2070s road map and getting it into really good
2071s shape and trying to make sure that the
2074s um uh we had eff of like guiding
2076s principles in terms of the types of
2077s content we were making and the
2078s regularity and making sure that um uh it
2082s was strong as possible that we knew we
2083s could deliver it so as much confidence
2085s as possible within any kind of games
2086s development environment that that's been
2088s the main thing is kind of just like
2090s re-evaluating like how we're delivering
2092s the content and making sure that it's
2093s the right types of content delivered
2095s regularly enough in the right way and
2097s like there's enough communication with
2098s the players and so on yes we kind of a
2101s Rootin I definitely in my time here I've
2103s never seen kind of as much of a roo and
2105s stem kind of reanalysis of how we do
2108s everything really um which I know
2110s obviously you kind of came into the
2111s process the later stages of and kind of
2114s put your stamp on it as well and brought
2115s in some learnings from from old school
2117s but um it has really been a lot of kind
2120s of
2121s reevaluation from top to bottom really
2123s hasn't it about how we operate as a team
2126s yeah and I think that like I me like mod
2128s Jack had you know a lot of solid plans
2130s basically it was question like iterating
2132s from those rather than doing anything
2133s from scratch um and then what I tried to
2136s be able to do is try and bring some of
2138s the practices over from old school and
2139s these would be things that are may be
2140s less visible to the players in terms of
2143s just like methods of like how we select
2144s projects and like how we um uh how we
2148s like construct the the overall road map
2150s and generally with old school we have
2152s like quite a longterm plan of what we
2154s could do obviously everything's pulled
2155s so it's all like it's all like subject
2157s to that but we generally have ideas into
2159s the future of like what we're looking to
2160s do so you have seen earlier in the year
2162s we released B War but that been teased
2163s for quite a few years in advance so um
2166s and then with RuneScape it will be a
2168s question of um we kind of like sat down
2170s and went over the plans that were
2171s already there and like iterated them a
2173s bit and we've shared like the road map
2175s through to the end of the
2176s year um and then the idea is that um uh
2180s we already have you know a reasonable
2181s idea what we would do through to the
2183s middle of next year and then now it's
2184s the question of like iterating that
2186s making sure that the first half of next
2187s year is like as good as possible and
2189s then extending it so we have like an
2191s idea through to the second half of the
2192s year and then ideally we'd be able to
2194s then talk to the players quite soon
2196s around um I say quite soon this will
2198s probably be more like um uh September's
2200s time around like what the next what the
2202s major beats are for kind of like um 2025
2205s and so on so trying to build out that
2207s longer horizon line and that ties into
2208s kind of what you were saying around just
2210s like modifying some of the processes but
2211s generally the team had really good ideas
2213s and it's like a question of just letting
2214s them do it and get on with it as much as
2216s possible yeah it's funny you saying
2218s about like I still I still can't get my
2221s own head around let alone I'm sure for
2222s the community the idea that they're
2223s going to hear about 25 content in as
2227s early as September like it's been a long
2229s time since we've been able to do that
2230s and done that so that's that's going to
2231s be really cool um M Jack is there
2234s anything you want to add just conscious
2236s about um the kind of what's been going
2238s over the past few months do you feel
2239s like marus covered anything was there
2240s anything you wanted to add no yeah I
2243s think I think that mostly covers it yeah
2245s um just the the I think yeah we are we
2248s are all just want to reemphasize that we
2250s are all committed to
2252s like making sure that we're that we're
2255s that we're shipping content and making
2256s sure that we're we're we're doing more
2258s to incorporate player voice into what we
2260s do via whatever the best way you know we
2263s can do that for the for the particular
2264s case like the project um the ones I'm
2266s most excited for are where we can just
2268s put the whole design out there and and
2271s openly discuss it you know as early as
2273s possible but but you know we can't do
2276s that with a quest for example but for a
2277s scaling update might make perfect sense
2279s so I'm quite excited for sponge sponge
2281s is going to be he he's going to be
2284s putting some weapon effects on a beta so
2286s that people can try them out and that's
2287s that's that's that's such a good way to
2289s do it because we always have such a
2290s problem with like balancing post launch
2292s that was such a topic of discussion for
2294s the
2294s fsoa where because the effect kind of
2296s went live it has such a weird effect on
2298s the economy if we make changes to it
2300s post launch so doing that pre-launch is
2302s such a good like even if we can't put
2303s the entire update on a beta which is
2305s kind of Impractical we can just put that
2308s one critical element on a beta that's
2309s that's that's a really
2311s efficient with the scariest element of
2313s the update so yeah I'm really excited
2314s for yeah I'm EXC I'm so excited for
2317s players to essentially go yeah I want
2319s that t95 kind of feeling and and for us
2323s to not put it out there and then be like
2324s oh it's not quite hitting what they it
2326s doesn't feel like it's meeting the kind
2327s of thing they had in their head or U
2329s maybe from a balance perspective isn't
2331s quite there like it's going to be really
2332s really cool to do uh I'm really excited
2334s to do that and look out for more on that

2355s answers really I think the first thing
2358s is like I want to say a big thank you to
2360s everyone who was kind of bearing with us
2362s over the kind of months where we were
2364s quieter because we were doing that root
2366s and stem review there was some kind of
2369s careful communication about what we
2370s could say and when that came into play
2373s and I know it was really frustrating to
2374s not hear much from us and we desperately
2376s wanted to you know we were talking about
2378s how do we bring you on this journey and
2379s then we felt like that would raise more
2381s questions I think the main thing to know
2383s is we've set ourselves up now not just
2386s on the development side as Marcos and
2388s Tim uh sorry Jack have been talking
2390s about never get used to calling you mod
2391s Jack Jack um but uh from uh even from a
2395s community side like we're now in a
2398s position where I think from a
2399s communication standpoint you know we're
2400s working with Mod Marcos to to have kind
2403s of the things that you need to hear and
2405s when you need to hear it when it comes
2406s to things like content announcements or
2408s even when it comes to how early we
2410s announce our projects these are all
2411s things that we're working on
2412s holistically now so rather than kind of
2415s communication kind of working around the
2417s the projects as we often did now we're
2419s kind of working closely together we're
2421s all kind of part of the of the same unit
2423s which is amazing and I think you'll feel
2424s that and I hope you will but um the main
2426s thing is just thank you for that quieter
2428s period we know it was frustrating and it
2430s was difficult to do that we wanted to
2432s kind of bring you and keep you informed
2433s but there's certain ways we have to do
2435s things at certain times and we we
2436s appreciate all of you I think the second
2438s thing is what I hope you'll see from us
2440s this year on the communication front
2442s isn't just around development um now
2444s that we're in a position to kind of have
2447s you know this great kind of more player
2449s involved development and working we're
2451s also trying to bring more consistent
2453s communication alongside that so um
2456s you're what you're going to see from us
2457s this year is of the return of weekly
2458s live streams might take us a while to
2460s get there um but we're setting up to do
2462s that again we're also going to try and
2463s do more fun live streams more things are
2466s not what you always see um when it comes
2468s to kind of what we've been focusing on
2470s lately which is content announcements or
2471s sharing development Insight but just
2472s getting things like jvm happening again
2474s uh having more fun with the community
2476s you can see us support creators a lot
2478s more they I know many of you love you
2479s love creators out there and creators
2481s have their own incredible communities uh
2483s for RuneScape and deserve to for us to
2486s give back to them as well for the
2487s community they build within RuneScape
2489s itself and that's not just people who
2490s create videos or stream but we're
2493s talking artists and Community leaders
2495s we're really trying to do more there I
2497s think most what I hope you feel from us
2498s this year is a lot more kind of openness
2500s and honesty and transparency in terms of
2502s on on the regular right like we've
2504s always tried to be that but I hope you
2506s see more you'll feel more kind of calls
2508s like this where we kind of have a a
2510s Discord stage and talk a little bit more
2512s chilled out and bring you into it and I
2514s hope this feels like a good start we
2515s just got to keep it up but yeah um it's
2518s been exciting for us as well to kind of
2519s rebuild from the ground up as well so
2523s right uh back to the guest star cuz I
2525s want to make sure we got some time for
2526s some questions um I just want to ask you
2529s one more question
2531s Marcos what's your kind of vision for
2534s RuneScape as it stands I know you are
2536s new newly on the team and I know it's
2537s very much a team built thing but but if
2540s you had to describe it right now where
2541s would you what would you kind of
2542s describe it
2544s as um that's a good question I think
2548s that some spoilers potentially if I go
2551s into that too much I think that at a
2553s high level I would say that um I want to
2556s make sure the game set up to be as
2559s successful as possible for as long as
2560s possible so trying to create like a
2563s really uh compelling like long-term plan
2565s for like what the game is and where it's
2568s going and things like that and making
2569s sure that's better communicated to
2571s players so they really believe in it um
2574s uh that's that's kind of like what I'm
2575s trying to head towards that's I know
2577s that's sounds a little bit fluffy but um
2580s uh we want to be able to communicate
2581s something probably in a bit more detail
2582s in a few months I suspect more along
2583s those lines and then um also when we're
2586s looking at like what's in say the 2025
2588s road map or 2026 it's going to be that
2591s will be beginning to TI more into that
2593s kind of type overall vision for the game
2594s I think as
2596s well brilliant that's great uh I guess
2600s let's get to some Community questions
2601s I'm aware we don't have a lot of time
2604s but uh thank you for sharing with that
2606s and it's also worth saying uh it was
2608s mentioned earlier I forgot to add on
2609s maros was talking about our 2025
2611s planning obviously we have a picture
2613s that we've built for 2025 uh that's very
2615s much in progress but it won't be
2616s finalized and we won't kind of make our
2619s final plan for what we're doing in 25
2620s without your help and that's through the
2623s survey um we've had an incredible and I
2625s mean incredible amount of completions on
2628s that survey has blown us away it's a
2630s very big survey if you haven't gone and
2632s done it already um it does take time
2635s some people have taken as much of an
2636s hour on it I hope
2638s that's uh that's not that's not the
2640s average but um hey if you enjoy it
2642s that's all that matters but um the
2644s survey that we put out is very different
2647s to the other surveys you've experienced
2649s um they are the other surveys we've done
2651s have been very much kind of a check and
2653s and want you to get an understanding of
2654s how you felt about recent content how
2656s about um kind of give us a bit of
2658s guidance on what we're doing well and
2660s not doing well this is very different
2662s this is about where could we go how what
2664s do you feel about this what do you feel
2666s about that direction it's really a
2668s guiding force for us and if there's one
2670s thing you do in the community this year
2672s as much as I want to hear from you all
2674s the time and I want you out there
2675s chatting amongst each other and creating
2676s the amazing community that you are um
2679s it's to go fill out that survey because
2681s it really will be this is going to be
2682s one of the crucial things that will help
2683s us kind of build that 25 road map and
2686s build it in a way that feels like it's
2688s informed by what you're looking to see
2690s from RuneScape so it it really is that
2693s important um it's not like it's not it's

2698s that will be a core part of our planning

2738s are there any many interesting Trends on
2741s the survey so far at least that you'd be
2743s willing to share at this
2747s point I've got a great one sorry go

2753s looking looking at the early data so the
2755s data is not all in yet but looking at
2756s the early data wood cutting and
2758s Fletching is very popular I'm
2760s excited yeah surprisingly is yeah it's
2764s very interesting Marcos was there
2766s anything you wanted to add beyond what
2769s uh um I've only seen some fairly basic
2771s data so far on it so mostly the bits
2773s I've seen so far just been around like
2775s feedback on the road map for um Coming
2779s uh six months um the bit I'm really
2781s interested to see though was obviously
2782s there were some uh various ideas
2785s suggested for things that could be done
2786s over the next couple years and stuff so
2787s I'm particularly key to see kind of what
2789s the responses were to
2791s those brilliant uh there is well there's
2794s a lot of questions go through I'm trying
2795s to organize by up folks as best I can uh
2798s there is a question I also should have
2799s expected um someone is asking about
2802s player Avatar refresh um obviously it
2806s was in our road map is there any
2808s thoughts we have on that right now um
2810s obviously it's always been something
2811s that since we kind of showed it in
2812s development has been popular do you have
2814s any initial thoughts on it Marcos or is
2816s it too early to say from uh from your
2818s short time on the team um I need to get
2821s a clearer idea because I I know it gets
2823s brought up quite a lot from seeing the
2824s chat and the social media and stuff um I
2826s need to get an idea around where the
2827s project is and like how basically how
2830s expensive it is to do because I think
2831s it's quite a complex large project so I
2834s need to get an idea about where we are
2836s in development how much work's left and
2837s then basically as always it's a
2839s trade-off if you do that there's a lot
2841s of other stuff you can't do so we need
2842s to wa up oh yes I I am interested into
2844s seeing more detail out what the project
2847s is possibilities up yeah I think when I
2850s look back the one thing I love about
2851s that is that um it's it's it was one of
2854s the first projects we were like did that
2856s kind of open development Community
2858s involvement thing on really like it's
2860s kind of like where we are going to be
2861s moving forward um so it's really
2864s interesting from that perspective uh
2866s that it kind of because of that there's
2867s a lot of personal attachment to it on
2868s top of the fact that you know obviously
2870s it's um a great idea of a piece of
2873s content orbe it with a lot of technical
2874s issues uh between us and and bring it to
2877s life but uh Jay vampire asks would you
2881s ever make the community Hit List openly
2883s available for everyone to see and
2884s comment
2886s on interesting yeah we've we have
2890s discussed doing things like that before
2892s at the the challenge is how it operates
2896s generally in terms of like like what
2898s software you use and like how you make
2899s it visible or manage people's
2901s expectations around stuff actually
2902s getting done um yeah that is something
2904s we've discussed before and it could be
2905s of interest but we need to see where it
2907s what like how feasible it is to do it in
2909s a way that isn't like quite misleading
2912s potentially yeah we had a we had a call
2914s with um QA who have been raising this as
2917s an idea as well uh just today yeah it's
2919s a really cool idea like you said there's
2920s there's there's a lot of considerations
2922s with it but definitely from a community
2924s angle not closed either um it's well add
2926s to
2926s that uh the RS guy are something that's
2929s getting a lot of up votes um and I think
2931s I saw in chat a lot so this is a really
2932s good one for you um with all the planned
2935s content in the road map seems like the
2937s majority of projects are very early in
2938s development is there any concern that
2940s you won't be able to meet the announced
2941s production schedule or are you feeling
2943s confident about that aspect of
2946s it um the Eternal question of games
2949s development I think the at the moment
2951s with confident but obviously the the
2953s priority generally will be to release
2954s things in the best possible state so we
2957s don't want to for example release
2959s something in hypothetically in September
2962s if we know it's not right and it's not
2964s good enough like we would it's better
2966s for us to delay it than release it in a
2968s uh suboptimal State any other thing we
2971s don't want to do is force the team to do
2973s extra hours and stuff to hit dates
2976s because there were unforeseen things
2977s that required extra work which meant the
2978s original date wasn't possible so we'll
2980s try and hit those dates as much as
2982s possible but it being transparent it is
2985s games development so um there's always a
2987s risk that some of those things will slip
2989s a bit but the goal is to do all those
2990s things as we
2992s said yeah rck I think there was also you
2995s know a lot of scoping work and and and
2998s Keen production work that went into to
3000s that before we announced the road map as
3001s well right so we're going in at least in
3004s the state we're in in a state of
3005s confidence and as you said then the
3006s realities is of game development you
3008s never know what might be around the
3009s corner but it is highly considered isn't
3011s it Marcos yes it was all ratified by
3013s production they went through and scaped
3015s things yet yeah so uh right I do want to

3070s kind of our outcomes are from the survey
3072s that's something we can take away um and
3074s think about for sure um but I think
3077s we'll Point things that uh we can more
3079s put at mod Marcos uh that are not things
3082s in progress speaking of which uh forou
3085s XP has asked osrs is borrowing some
3088s RuneScape 3 devs to help with sailing
3090s are there any plans for RuneScape 3 to
3092s borrow _ RuneScape devs to help with
3094s projects like group Iron
3096s Man um at the moment but what we tend to
3100s do is the devs that worked on group IR
3103s man for old school are Consulting on the
3106s project it's probably the best way to
3107s describe it so they've been um advising
3110s the RuneScape team and how it was
3111s implemented and making recommendations
3113s on best approach and so
3115s on good yeah I know group Iron Man
3118s obviously is something we we have a
3120s another game to leverage from and see
3122s how they did it though with a lot of our
3123s own custom work to go into it I should
3125s stress that it's not a an easy thing to
3128s for us to go build it's not like a a
3130s drag and drop by any means and I want to
3132s say that for our Tech Team who would
3134s kill me if I ever give that insinuation
3136s because our Tech Team have a lot of work
3138s between here and there to get done AR
3141s sorry
3144s yeah yeah very uh are is asking are
3147s there any plans in the future to
3149s potentially give some love to the clan
3150s system whether it be as little as some
3152s nice quality of life updates interface
3154s interface tweaks or full-blown changes
3156s to things like the
3158s Citadel um so we have actually discussed
3161s some of that internally quite recently
3163s we are looking at options for Clans to
3165s see what is feasible and then again as
3167s always we need to wear it up against
3169s other stuff in the road map to see um uh
3173s is the is the updating the clan system
3176s is that more valuable than other types
3177s of updates we can do but it is something
3179s we've discussed a few times
3181s yeah yeah I think there'll be a lot of
3183s Clan happen to hear that you're always
3184s in our minds clanes you're always
3186s talking about you um it's it's something
3188s that uh Clans are a common Topic at the
3190s shoe I can tell you that uh mcore with
3194s uncore Z asks a question that I've seen
3196s a lot of people ask um in various forms
3199s I believe in the live stream there was a
3201s mention that RS3 would not have polls
3203s like the osrs community in what methods
3206s are we expected to be able to
3207s communicate our feedbacks on topics how
3210s so essentially I think the summation of
3212s the question that I'm seeing mostly
3213s everywhere is if we're not going to be a
3215s a poll Le game like uh like osrs or a
3218s very deeply involved poll game like osrs
3221s what's your kind of vision for how
3222s players will be involved with
3225s development yeah that's a good question
3227s I think some of that is to be
3228s established over time so it be
3230s particularly working with yourself mod
3232s hully I think so it would be it would be
3235s via channels like such as Discord things
3237s where we would try and gather more kind
3238s of empirical data I guess in terms of
3240s like what players feedback is and making
3242s sure that it's aligned of kind of what
3243s players are looking for and it there any
3245s concerns they've got with the update are
3246s properly addressed polling system is um
3249s it's very much like an old school thing
3250s it works really well for old school but
3252s I think transplanting it directly over
3253s to Breen Escape may not quite work um uh
3257s and I think that there are other methods
3259s we can use to try and get community
3261s feedback and make sure it's integrated
3262s into the process um which are which give
3265s a bit more flexibility the road map and
3267s so
3269s on yeah brilliant I I think yeah just
3272s add you were saying from a community
3273s perspective I describe it as it's going
3275s to be a lot more of a verbal kind of um
3279s I
3280s think I is also very verbal but we're
3282s going to focus a lot on kind of bringing
3284s you into the conversation bringing you
3285s into design um working out really great
3289s ways that we can involve as many people
3290s in possible and kind of having a voice
3291s in the shaping of our content um and
3294s we'll do that at various stages for
3295s different projects we'll have different
3296s apprach Roes um but we're going to
3298s really put a focus on kind of Dev to
3300s player interaction and that's kind of
3302s going to we're going to use feedback to
3303s inform I think another thing I'd be
3304s personally Keen to see um really excited
3307s that we're using a beta for um what's
3310s coming up with sanctum of rebirth to to
3312s kind of test some ideas around weapons
3314s that's something we've not really ever
3315s done before that I'm aware of um
3317s definitely thinking about how we use
3318s betas to cool things like that um more
3320s Remote Play test things like that I
3322s think be are all things we're thinking
3323s about for sure yeah I think sorry sorry
3327s one final thing I think it's also worth
3329s noting that the polling system is only
3330s part of the process with old school so
3332s yeah exactly you have the polling
3334s process but then actually you spend we
3336s spend more time doing like dead blocks
3338s and the iteration cycle around those
3340s rather than the poll itself and the poll
3342s tends to be Focus very much more on like
3343s the reward structure necessarily rather
3345s than like aspects of the content so I
3347s think that the um uh the I think we can
3350s still pretty pretty heavily involved
3351s with the community on the update
