s | hi everyone my name is snot I'm the |
---|---|
s | community manager at coffee stain |
s | Studios and if you didn't hear the news |
s | last week we released update eight on |
s | the Early Access Branch whoopy freaking |
s | do all right it's finally out and if you |
s | haven't seen the patch this video you |
s | can check it out here in the cart and uh |
s | yeah in this video though we're going to |
s | be talking about some good old post |
s | update 8 info we'll be talking about |
s | some of the known issues that we have |
s | still in update 8 um we'll be talking |
s | about the upcoming patch that's coming |
s | up next week on |
s | experimental um I'll also be addressing |
s | the state of fixas because I know you |
s | guys have been asking about that like |
s | non-stop okay what's the deal with |
s | fixmas I'll tell you in a second all |
s | right and finally I've got some really |
s | exciting news uh regarding a big sale |
s | that's going on on one of our partnered |
s | merch store lizado doo.com so make sure |
s | to stick around for that so yeah update |
s | is now out on the Early Access Branch |
s | after being on the experimental Branch |
s | for roughly a decade roughly give her |
s | take and uh the reception for update has |
s | been pretty great honestly uh but it's |
s | not a perfect update by any means and I |
s | kind of wanted to spend a moment you |
s | know talking about some of the known |
s | issues uh with this update and sort of |
s | clarify a bit on the state of things so |
s | the first thing I want to talk about is |
s | vehicles uh in in s Factory so in update |
s | 8 we had to completely rework the |
s | physics engine because the old physics |
s | engine was deprecated uh in the new |
s | Unreal Engine version that meant that |
s | everything that had anything to do with |
s | physics in the game had to be |
s | essentially rework from scratch and |
s | vehicles was one of those things in the |
s | game that was most affected by this so |
s | the automated side of vehicles is mostly |
s | unaffected as like when we're automated |
s | vehicles uh it actually doesn't use |
s | physics too much uh to a certain extent |
s | and it's mostly the vehic like the |
s | manual driving side of things where |
s | vehicles are kind of like uh a bit |
s | different now than they used to be |
s | before that's not to say that like |
s | automated routes aren't affected by this |
s | uh there might be some cases due to like |
s | the fact that you know the turn radius |
s | is a bit different on the vehicles and |
s | like the speed and all that stuff is |
s | affected so like the automated routes |
s | that you've made previously before |
s | updated may still have some impact uh |
s | but for the most part it should be fine |
s | and when it comes to the manual driving |
s | of vehicles the feedback that we've |
s | gotten has been a little bit mixed uh to |
s | be honest uh a lot of people really like |
s | the new vehicles there's also a bunch of |
s | people that don't like the new vehicle |
s | handling we've sorted taken the feedback |
s | that we've gotten and we are going to |
s | tweak the vehicles a little bit in the |
s | future but we won't be able to do it for |
s | this update essentially and this is |
s | something actually we plan to do for |
s | update just ran out of time so this is |
s | something that we're going to look into |
s | the future next thing I want to talk |
s | about is a known issue where ultrawide |
s | monitors support doesn't really work in |
s | the game anymore um we used to have a |
s | setting in the game that would like |
s | maintain the Y AIS uh aspect ratio for |
s | for like the fov and stuff like that and |
s | unfortunately we have to change sort of |
s | the our implementation of how the fov |
s | handling works in the game with and |
s | scaling equipment and all that stuff uh |
s | which meant that the functionality for |
s | maintaining the y- AIS that we use for |
s | for wide monitors is broken at the at |
s | the moment and it will be broken for |
s | some time because we haven't had time to |
s | look into it and we probably won't have |
s | time to look into it for some time |
s | unfortunately because we need to sort of |
s | make a completely new uh implementation |
s | for that so just be aware that that |
s | setting is currently broken and we'll |
s | look into it further down the line one |
s | thing we also notice that every time |
s | people download a patch to the game the |
s | first like initial boot up of the game |
s | once it's been installed is quite slow |
s | and it takes quite long for the game to |
s | to actually start up and get to the main |
s | menu and the reason for that we found is |
s | due to anti doing like a big scan on all |
s | the modules that are in the game and |
s | this can take quite some time actually |
s | for some people and one side effect of |
s | this is that once it's doing the scan it |
s | sort of Blocks the game from booting up |
s | um the login process that we have sort |
s | of times out and so that means that |
s | you're when you actually get into the |
s | game um the login process sort of fails |
s | and you're you're signed off signed out |
s | and um you're offline and whenever you |
s | try and start a new save file it will |
s | tell you that you're offline and the |
s | only way to sort of get around that is |
s | to just restart the game and restart the |
s | assigning process essentially so it's |
s | kind of recommended that whenever you |
s | download a patch just like let it run |
s | that slow boot up and then restart the |
s | game once you get into the main menu so |
s | you so the next boot up is like |
s | everything's fine we're going to try and |
s | reach out to Microsoft and see if we can |
s | uh look into as to why this is happening |
s | because this is happen across the board |
s | for every antivirus software um so we're |
s | going to try and and figure out what's |
s | going on there next thing I want to talk |
s | about is belts some people have reported |
s | that there they noticed some weird |
s | flickering happening on belts and |
s | there's like some weird artifacting |
s | going on uh this can be multiple things |
s | uh it could either be the upscaling |
s | setting remember that we've added |
s | support for like dlss FSR and TSR uh |
s | upscaling options in the game one common |
s | issue with some of these upscaling |
s | options is that like Fast movement and |
s | fast motions uh can produce like these |
s | weird artifacts um and that's what's |
s | happening on some of the faster belts in |
s | the game and currently the only way to |
s | get around that is to just not use one |
s | of the upscaling options and just set |
s | the game to use TAA or FXAA or you know |
s | no antialising or whatever uh and that |
s | should get rid of the artifacting but |
s | there's also an issue where sometimes on |
s | the belts some items can appear uh to be |
s | there but they're not there or like the |
s | highlighting works but there's nothing |
s | there on the belt and this is more so a |
s | rendering issue with the belts uh we're |
s | aware of this issue we didn't have time |
s | to fix it for update 8 because the |
s | solution is quite involved to get around |
s | that fix so we're going to another thing |
s | that we're doing later down the line |
s | another known issue is that some of the |
s | factory animations can quite |
s | aggressively slow down sometimes it |
s | doesn't actually affect any of the uh |
s | performance of the factor and like that |
s | they will still produce the same way |
s | that's purely a visual thing so like the |
s | machines will still produce just fine |
s | it's just that the animation won't |
s | update as frequently next thing I want |
s | to talk about is some issues in |
s | multiplayer there are a couple of like |
s | weird things happening in multiplayer |
s | sometimes uh we've had to focus a bit |
s | more on single player for this update in |
s | particular so uh we obviously want to |
s | maintain multiplayer as much as we can |
s | this is obviously a game that's meant to |
s | be played online and with friends there |
s | might be some issues here and there that |
s | we've hadn't a time to to patch up one |
s | of the biggest offenders is that using |
s | hyper tubes as clients can lead to some |
s | pretty weird and gnarly situations where |
s | uh there's a lot of rumber banding or |
s | you might even end up in like weird |
s | States we are aware of that issue we're |
s | going to look into it that's for further |
s | further down the line once we have more |
s | time to polish sort of the multiplayer |
s | aspect of things also it's recommended |
s | to sort of look into the network |
s | settings so you might have that can |
s | actually resolve some of these issues so |
s | like setting it to ultra if your |
s | bandwidth uh can supply that that is |
s | because it can actually get worse if you |
s | don't have a fast internet connection um |
s | so you can always play around with those |
s | settings and that goes both for host and |
s | clients by the way so I think we said |
s | this before s Factory doesn't have |
s | controler support uh we don't know if |
s | we'll going to have native control |
s | support in the future or not uh but one |
s | thing that people have noticed is that |
s | there used to be a legacy setting in the |
s | menu where if you plug in controller you |
s | could still play satisfactory to a |
s | certain degree with a controller and |
s | they used to be like a setting that you |
s | can enable to sort of do that but now |
s | that setting is completely gone and |
s | people might be wondering like why did |
s | we remove this D functionality if we had |
s | like some support for controllers and |
s | now we just have none and the reason why |
s | we completely removed all Legacy options |
s | for controller support in the game is |
s | because now it's possible to uh remap |
s | controllers to keyboard and mouse uh |
s | using third party software or using |
s | steam's own uh controller mapping uh |
s | thing ofama jig that they have cuz |
s | previously there were a couple of |
s | keybinds that wasn't possible to do just |
s | because the game already had sort of |
s | some control over controllers so now we |
s | completely remove that so that people |
s | can use Steam controller mapping or you |
s | know any other third party software uh |
s | mapping thingy to buy controllers |
s | themselves last thing I want to talk |
s | about are crashes and performance so the |
s | vast majority of crashes are related to |
s | mods so if you have any mods installed |
s | please try playing the game without mods |
s | and see if you can reproduce the crash |
s | the next most common crashes are related |
s | to Hardware uh and it's mostly GPU |
s | related crashes and some of these |
s | crashes are kind of hard for us to to do |
s | too much about but they can be resolved |
s | on your end we have have a couple of |
s | like FAQs and troubleshooting guides on |
s | on like our steam forums and Discord on |
s | our website and stuff like that uh but |
s | here are some top troubleshooting tips |
s | from SN right top troubleshooting tips |
s | to SN all right here we go so first |
s | things first make sure to update drivers |
s | to your graphics card and even consider |
s | switching to Studio drivers uh for your |
s | graphics cards this tends to resolve a |
s | lot of these issues and in some cases |
s | you might also want to do like a clean |
s | install of your graphics card drivers |
s | cuz that can also solve a lot of issues |
s | when people uh say they are on latest |
s | drivers and then do a clean install that |
s | actually solved it so so also consider |
s | doing that the next thing you can try is |
s | resetting the Shader cache uh how to do |
s | this depends on what graphics card you |
s | have so I recommend like Googling you |
s | know your graphics card and how to |
s | restart the Shader cache so look into |
s | that and another common thing you can |
s | try is switching the rendering API that |
s | we use so the game by default uses |
s | directx12 but you can also try switching |
s | it to DirectX 11 and if you really dare |
s | you can try switching it to Vulcan but |
s | it's important to note that some people |
s | may have switched to direct X11 in the |
s | past because they've had issues with uh |
s | directx12 the game is targeted toward |
s | directx12 and there might be some new |
s | issues due to DirectX 11 and there's |
s | better support for direct direct X2 now |
s | so some people might still have the |
s | setting where the game boots up in |
s | DirectX 11 and that causes issues and |
s | then switching back and trying directx12 |
s | actually resolves some of these issues |
s | so yeah recommend checking them out and |
s | trying them out and see which one works |
s | as always something you can do is verify |
s | your game files either via steam or epic |
s | in the settings uh some people have also |
s | had the issue where they needed to make |
s | a clean install of the game so like just |
s | verifying wouldn't work they actually |
s | needed to like completely remove |
s | everything and and reinstall the game |
s | remember to back up your save files if |
s | you do this save files aren't saved in |
s | the same directory you know as your |
s | install directory and whatnot uh but I'm |
s | just saying that anyways it's always |
s | good to like just always back up your |
s | safe files okay it's I I can't stress |
s | that enough you never know what can go |
s | wrong you can sort of tell when the |
s | crash is related to uh something to do |
s | with your graphics card if in the crash |
s | reporter in the call stack you see it |
s | mentioning something like you know uh D3 |
s | d11 uh or like direct X or GPU or render |
s | thread or like uh device hung it's a |
s | real shame whenever you get a device is |
s | too hung if you know what I'm saying but |
s | yeah for the most part when it comes to |
s | stability for the game this is actually |
s | one of the most stable releases we've |
s | had I do want to tou touch a little bit |
s | of on performance as well and talk a |
s | little bit about that um so from the |
s | data that we can see for the vast |
s | majority of players the performance is |
s | actually like on par if not better uh |
s | than it was before and it's it's nice to |
s | see that like a lot of people are having |
s | a pretty smooth experience with the game |
s | but that's not the case for everyone and |
s | I kind of want to acknowledge like for |
s | for some of those people that are seeing |
s | like worse performance on update 8 than |
s | in seven whenever I talk to people that |
s | have run into performance issues it has |
s | for the most cases been due to um |
s | Hardware not meeting minimum |
s | requirements and uh running out of vrm |
s | and that kind of stuff it's it's |
s | important to note that like with this |
s | update we needed to to raise the minimum |
s | requirements for the game and we might |
s | need to sort of revisit this uh maybe |
s | more in the future uh to better fit like |
s | which cards we list in the minimum |
s | requirements cuz there might be some |
s | cases where you know some Hardware are |
s | like fit to fight in terms of like |
s | performance but doesn't have like |
s | drivers that are maintained anymore and |
s | we realized that this is really |
s | frustrating for people that maybe don't |
s | meet the minimum requirements and were |
s | able to play the game before we can't |
s | now and you know this is sort of the |
s | backside of working on a game that is in |
s | Early Access uh and still being in |
s | active development having to sort of |
s | leave people behind in this regard but |
s | the thing was that when we were in |
s | Update 7 we were sort of like pushing |
s | the engine as as far as we could if like |
s | in the terms of what we were using it |
s | for and what we could do and we saw a |
s | lot of potential in in doing even more |
s | now we're sort of more primed to be able |
s | to better optimize the game and go even |
s | further you know on current gen Hardware |
s | so we feel a lot more optimistic with |
s | the new engine being able to do more |
s | with the game that we were able to do |
s | before so those are some of the known |
s | issues with up to8 now I want to talk |
s | about the the future and the future is |
s | next week old man uh because next week |
s | we're going to be |
s | releasing a patch on experimental for up |
s | toate where we update the online |
s | integration that we have in the game so |
s | if you remember a couple of weeks ago I |
s | posted a video where I mentioned that |
s | the online integration for satisfactory |
s | is a bit working progress and update |
s | we've had to uh sort of rework the |
s | online integration for the game uh the |
s | online integration is the stuff that |
s | handles you know like you're populating |
s | your friends list on Steam and you know |
s | connecting to to Epic and logging you in |
s | all that stuff so yeah that system has |
s | been sort of reworked in update 8 it was |
s | still a bit working progress when we |
s | left off and it's a bit working progress |
s | on the Early Access Branch right now so |
s | next week we're going to push a patch |
s | with an update to the online integration |
s | so one thing we've done in the new |
s | online integration is that we now make |
s | it so that on Steam uh epic online |
s | services will be opt in from now on if |
s | you don't know what epic online services |
s | are it's essentially the service used to |
s | be able to do handle connectivity and |
s | you know be able to play with your |
s | friends uh and enable crossplay I think |
s | that's the biggest aspect really and now |
s | you're going to be able to opt out of |
s | that if you want to so if you're on |
s | Steam you can still play with your steam |
s | friends but you can only play with your |
s | steam friends if you opt out of this and |
s | if you want to play crossplay you can |
s | opt into the on on Epic online services |
s | and be able to play with both Steam and |
s | epic USU so there it's essentially more |
s | feature Rich if you opt into the online |
s | epic online services uh but now the |
s | option is there at least and another |
s | thing I mentioned is account unlinking |
s | so account unlinking when it comes to |
s | like linking your steam account to your |
s | epic account uh that stuff is going to |
s | be handled separately now outside of the |
s | game so you're going to be able to go on |
s | epic's website and unlink your Steam |
s | account if you want to CH if you want to |
s | do that and it won't you won't have to |
s | do it through the game anymore so to |
s | speak so that stuff is happening on |
s | experimental next week but something |
s | that's also happening next week is |
s | fixmas if you don't know what fixmas is |
s | it's the seasonal event that we've had |
s | in the game since launch I think I think |
s | we always had it uh and it's something |
s | that happens that runs through December |
s | 1st uh and like a little bit into |
s | January where presents fall in the sky |
s | you can do more stuff inside of fact |
s | essentially |
s | and fixmas will make a grand return in |
s | update 8 so we are going to patch up and |
s | fix the issues that we've run into with |
s | the engine upgrade for fixmas um and |
s | fixmas is going to run just as usual |
s | there won't be any new content for |
s | fixmas this year it will essentially be |
s | a rerun of last year's fixmas but there |
s | will be a new calendar and remember that |
s | you can disable fixmas if you don't want |
s | to partake in fixas you do that by |
s | disabling seasonal events in the main |
s | menu and last thing I want to talk about |
s | is merch cuz there's currently a big |
s | sale going on at lizard doo.com uh one |
s | of our uh merch Partners heroic replicas |
s | who are hosting Liz doo.com are having |
s | the biggest sale ever so there's a big |
s | sale with a bunch of discounts on a lot |
s | of stuff for today only on Black Friday |
s | there's a special uh sale on the jumbo |
s | lizard doggo and the confusing creature |
s | storage sack the big big ones um so make |
s | sure to grab that before before it's too |
s | late I'm really good at the sales pitch |
s | thing huh so check out log.com to check |
s | out all the discounts and there's also a |
s | couple of special coupon codes you can |
s | use during checkout that will give you |
s | some bonus stuff you can use the code |
s | pens set for orders over 50 to get a |
s | free pens set you can use ship 100 for |
