I would love if, lets say, every 3 weeks you released 1 or 2 new items/building to build/make, while also holding out for the big update.

So we get some content, from time to time and it keeps the game more interesting, while content on a very small scale should be easy (easier?) to add.

Edit: Also, gamers have a very short attention span, not having any new content for 3+ months could be bad for you guys, you want a steady flow of content, keep players coming back.

I agree that frequent content updates would be good but there are some kinds of content that can’t be added piece by piece so that doesn’t always work. Bigger, more complex features and content take the entire team a long time to make, but then that content can add a significant number of hours of new gameplay. It’s sh*tty during the dry spell but hopefully worth it in the long run.

I know. I was expecting more 75/25 leaning to dedicated servers

Yeah that is close, huh? When we discussed this internally I thought it would’ve been an easy win for dedicated servers, but my producer gave me a bunch of good reasons why mod support could very well be preferred. And so yeah, he wasn’t wrong, it’s quite close.

On the one hand, mod support would be nice. Its useful for Multi- and Singleplayers. But you run the risk with a game in development, that there will be mods, that contain stuff that is supposed to follow as official content. And so there will be a lot of double stuff.

On the other hand, I only play alone and not with friends, so DedicatedServer go past "my nuts" :-P .

For me, the most beautiful would be more content. What about the Mercer Spheres, Summersloops, S.A.M. ORE, Windows, Lights, Triangle Foundations, Character Elevators, and all the other stuff that's still missing. Very cool to would be a small "between update" with a little bit new content. December is still very far away ...

And of course:

All hail Jace, hallowed be thy Nut

Good points.

We might have a little update but we don’t have anything planned yet because we are really focused on the major update. And mod support/dedicated servers aren’t the main thing for the update, there’ll be a LOT of content. In fact we will most likely release dedicated servers and/or mod support as soon as it’s ready (sooner or later than December lol).

If making a choice between prioritising modding support or dedicated servers, I would say modding, but only if the APIs are going to be stable through the remainder of early release. Otherwise, we end up with mods that are constantly breaking with every update and authors that will burn out before the game even gets to release status. A similar situation played out in Space Engineers and there are to this day thousands of abandoned mods on Steam that no longer work and aren't being maintained. Part of that is a Steam problem and the lack of curating in the workshop, but it also illustrates how much effort was lost over the years that will now just go to waste.

Tldr: modding > server, but only if you don't half-ass it.

"Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing." -Ron Swanson

I’ve been a whole-ass since I was born.

Great points here. Risking mods breaking every update or so is something to consider. I’ll run this by the team when we discuss things more.

we will absolutely try and add small bug fixes and QoL changes in the mean time! That's the plan anyway

December? I just want to work on Tier 8 and get the remote storage. Forget the mod support and dedicated servers for now. Tier 8 should be the priority.

As I said in the video, there is more than Dedicated Servers and Mod Support. I am just not disclosing everything yet. There will absolutely be more content!

Hi Jace,

maybe this helps a bit with the discussion. I made a "single- or multiplayer" poll a view weeks ago.

See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/comments/cg19vt/single_or_multiplayer_preliminary_results_of_the/

Check the poll itself (link in the post). The numbers are more up to date.
