[2019] Copy of Satisfactory Game Dir... can it still connect to the servers?

So I am not keen to loose all my save data when Update 3 drops (see the update 3 video diary)... but in the video he spoke about how you can copy the game to a new dir and keep playing it free from updates.

I have tried doing it and the game seems to load fine, but when I continue it says I can not connect to the server ... is that how it goes or have I done something wrong?
