Lemme just say that I'm not questioning the professionalism of any HiRez employees here. My point is that it's not the same as sports. The thing is, HiRez has complete authority over who appears in their pro games, with only 40 players in total competing at SWC. It's very much different than a large-scale NBA environment where there are insane amounts of players. I won't watch a basketball match and be like "wow there's sure a lot of arguing, NBA really allows toxicity in basketball so I won't play any during my own free time" but a random person seeing Smite for the first time and seeing this clip with the n-th post here on Reddit about how toxicity is bad in Smite WILL say "huh this game seems cool but the people say it's very toxic and this clip sure seems to confirm it"
Today's events are not the fault of anyone at HiRez, but no offense, defending it as if it's normal to have 40 people sh*tting on each other is problematic. They won, yet this was done in full view of the cameras ensuring it gets clipped forever, which isn't very sportsmanship-like behavior if you ask me. This was a product of drama that occurred in the past and it should've been dealt with so that you ideally don't have a high upvote post with a clip of a player sh*t-talking their opponents who just lost at the top of the subreddit in the most important time of the year for Smite.
My point is its bad PR for Smite, no matter who's saying the sh*t in the clip at a time where you don't need any bad PR to attract new players with the new season.
Furthermore, I'd just like to add that this kind of behavior is also looked down upon in sports as well, given how much emphasis is given on sportsmanship-like behavior. If you had someone in football scream "You f*cking suck" at the other team after winning instead of shaking hands, there's a really good chance they would get fined, and the football community definitely wouldn't praise it as a good thing. And you wouldn't see people there defending it as if it's normal because it's not - it's petty and cringe.
