It's been so awesome seeing the community this excited and wanting a follow up from this crossover before the first one is even revealed!
When we started planning for the Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover, one of the biggest things we considered was the feedback we got on the RWBY Battle Pass. Taking all your comments into consideration, we really wanted to go the extra mile in capturing the personality of these beloved characters and the way they move and fight. From the jump we knew that we wanted to put in extra effort and love into these skins to take them to the next level. We slotted in way more work for each of these skins animations and FX a lot of which exceeding the level of a Tier 5 skin (much greater than the past Weiss skin for Freya).
The amount of work we knew would be required to execute the product we wanted just wasn’t feasible if we were to reuse the same Battle Pass structure from our last crossover. So we began planning knowing that we wanted to make the three best skins possible for this new Battle Pass.
The team debated for literally weeks on who to include in this crossover, and trust me nailing it down wasn’t easy. We had multiple Character/god pairings that we pitched internally. All of the members of ‘Team Avatar’ from The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, plus a ton of supporting characters from both series were considered. With the amount of new skins locked in at 3, we had a tough decision in front of us. We can't include a full ‘Team Avatar’, so who makes the roster for the Battle Pass? After reviewing all of our pitches together with Nickelodeon, the group chose to go with the 2 main characters, and Avatars, of their respective series Aang and Korra, and Zuko the main antagonist (some even argue he is the main character, but that’s a whole different discussion) from The Last Airbender, who is a fan favorite.
After months of work and routine check-ins with Nickelodeon, we ended up with 3 AMAZING new skins with animation work close to the level of which we put into a new god, and Tier 2 versions of each to reflect the characters' transformations on the show! Plus there’s loads of new profile cosmetic content in the Battle Pass featuring characters like Appa, Momo, and everyone’s favorite (unlucky) cabbage vendor.
We have TONS of Avatar and Korra fans on the team and we had so much fun bringing this iconic series to life in SMITE. Can’t wait for you all to see the full reveal on the Update Show! See you tomorrow!
