Out of curiosity, how hard is it to implement a Rockstar Editor-like feature?
Hard? Not sure about the difficulty. A better question would be, "How resource and time intensive would be it be to create/implement?"
We'd essentially have to build a complete tool from the ground up. This means we'd have to...
- Design the tool itself (which has several steps involved, including research, ideation, implementation, etc...)
- Wireframe it out for testing
- Figure out how we're testing it (Do we test it all internally? Do we bring in a group of players? If so, that's a whole process on it's own...)
- Code the functionality that creators would want
- Create a way to save video files locally (I don't even know what that would entail)
- Create a UI
- Create a tutorial for the tool
- QA the tool
- Understand how we're going to market/publish it
- Create events that are designed to promote/utilize the tool
And I'm sure I've missed a lot of other aspects that I don't personally have an complete understanding of.
That's not to say we shouldn't do it, I'm obviously a huge fan of anything that helps drive increased amounts of UGC, but rather "where should we prioritize it?" when held up against other systems that could have a more immediate and lasting impact on the health of the game?
