@Silent0siris At this point, it's mostly talking with peers (or "peer+" aka the more experienced discipline group) that are working on different things. Doing this organically is such a reach right now so gamedev slacks/discords are all the more valuable.

@itsOSK @dogles The high impact stuff has been seen, but there are lots of little bits and pieces that haven't gotten any airtime.

@Silirrion @Silent0siris YES! Please, designers, go read about everything that's NOT game related. Put the liberal arts syllabi to use and make your way through weird stuff. One of my favorite coworkers got his BA in math, did his masters in physics, worked at los alamos, then got a PhD in ... poetry.

@Silent0siris An odd one that's not really "learnable", but it was a turning point a few years into my career: Learn and cultivate empathy for your audience. I've been trying to structure how to learn/teach this for years and haven't figured a good way yet but I found it's critical.

@Silent0siris @LazyAhab Oh 100%. Once you make the leap to player personas it becomes much easier to communicate (even if you don't always get it right...). A potential danger here though is also using it dismiss things too broadly ("Oh this isn't meant for X, so their feedback can be discounted.")

@dshiatt @Silent0siris @LazyAhab As a part interviews for various design/product/analyst roles, I ask some variant of "how can you tell if 1) a player criticism has merit and 2) if it's held by more than just a vocal minority?" Or "the data says one thing, players say another, where does the truth lie?"

Normally it's video gaming that makes my RSI flare up. Today? Today, it's refreshing vaccine appointment sites.

@NormNazaroff Might be entirely rose colored glasses but the first days we were in there, it hit us deep with old timey Asherons Call exploration vibes. "Whoa what's this place? What's down here? Loot?!? We must delve deep!"
