I was going back on Splitgate’s social media and came across when they had developer videos months ago. They are all Stanford University fraternity bros. Cardinal was talking about how they made the game as a f*cking school project. He probably got together with all his friends and said ‘hey man. All we have to do is tweak this just a little bit and then release it. Work is already done’ He probably did some major ‘in 12 months we will have this amount in return blah blah’

Even when they said the huge marketing push (which btw, I am still trying to figure out when and where that happened lol) did absolutely nothing in the letter they wrote and put all around, they mentioned how they were wanting adventure capitalist to invest with them. This game is nothing but a quick turnaround for something they already made a long time ago.

Stop supporting this game. It’s dead and will be put into the ground for good within the next six months. Players aren’t the only thing leaving them too!! Even the people that they did the tournament thing left them!!! Which is why they are giving loot boxes as prizes. 😂

Uninstall already like the rest of us. Time to call it quits devs. Move onto the next lame startup idea you come up with. And if this post magically disappears, it’s because the truth is trying to be silenced

Hi, Cardinal here. This post doesn't make much sense to me and has a lot of inaccurate information.

  1. Not that it matters, but we actually aren't frat bros. I was not in a frat, and I started the company with Nick, a friend in my dorm.
  2. We did not make the game as a school project. Though the idea of putting portals in an FPS did start as a school project, it was never originally intended to turn into anything. It wasn't until two years later while I was a grad student that we decided to revisit the idea and start over with the intention of creating a fully-fledged game.
  3. The work is already done? Game development never stops and is never that easy. We have been working crazy hours for the last 3 years.
  4. Why the hate towards startups? This one really baffled me.

Overall, I just don't really understand the hate towards startups and indie games. We started as a couple of guys with a passion and an idea, and turned it into a company that employs 25 people. As is the case with almost every indie studio, we have put our heart and soul into it and worked our asses off for years. It's no easy task building a company and trying to compete with AAA games with significantly larger budgets. Indie devs are the ones taking risks in this industry and have to work harder than everyone (for much less pay) to even have a chance at success. Most people would see that as commendable.
