Why do so many people upset when Temtem is compared to Pokemon?

They have more similarities than differences, and being compared to a more popular game is never really a bad thing, most games even just meme about it, like Terraria being "2D Minecraft", for example. Pokemon even has raids, and the wild area while online is essentially the same as Temtems "MMO" aspect with players running around while you explore to give the illusion of the world being more alive.

Like the game is a monster collector, has lumas, routes, gym equivalents, mythicals, breeding, the list goes on and on...but even the head of Crema, YaW, has said the game can't be compared to Pokemon. Why not? Its a very strange thing to say. Its clear to, well, pretty much everybody that the game is next to if not entirely inspired by Pokemon to begin with. If I'm not mistaken, they've even said so in a blog somewhere? Correct me if I'm wrong

Also this isnt meant to be negative, I'm just confused on why a lot of the fandom thinks this way

A sensible comparison is fine, but comparisons between Pokemon and Temtem often simplify one or the other's core features (I don't think Temtem's MMO aspects really are like the online wild area) and ignore the totally different backgrounds and contexts for the two.

We've never shied away from explicitly talking about the many ways Pokemon inspired Temtem, but there are a lot other games that have influenced us as well. What YaW might've meant is that we're not a 25-year old, multibillionaire franchise, and as such there will always be things that are out of our reach, and these factors are often glossed over in comparisons.
