Well, maybe not the first time you play an encounter (tho if you have a locked door behind you, you can guess that maybe enemies will open it eventually), but then you can redo it knowing when and were that wave of adds spawn, and adjust your gameplay. There is no hardcore mode in this game, you can retry an encounter as many times as you need in order to master it.
