[2021] Friend unable to equip certain apparel items?

Hi all, I got this game a month ago, got my friend to pick it up and having a good time.

Last night he got some sunglasses and well he can't equip them? Nbd, we move on, but now he has racked up maybe 4 or 5 items he can't equip, seems to have no order or consistency (thought it might be i have the gold edition and he has standard)

There's no help or info out there, just something about store bought bugs from a year ago. I'm at a loss. Its not stopping us from enjoying it but its fairly frustrating my friend, as it doesn't happen to me.

Seems when he goes to equip it its greyed out or something. These are common apparels around the world. At a loss if anyone has an answer or help it would be greatly appreciated.
