I find this State of the Game incredibly tone deaf and unnecessary.

We wanted to provide a recap of the events so far for those invested in the lore of the game. Not every week will have news or concrete information about upcoming content.

More news about upcoming content is coming next week. Stay tuned!

So no new info and theyre just rehashing the story we all already played?

Welp. thanks Massive.

We did! As announced last week and yesterday on Twitter. We knew that today's show would not be popular with everybody and letting you guys know what we're talking about early on should hopefully set some expectations.

We'll be back with other things next week, stay tuned.

You should roll this up to them...obviously no one here wants this content from them! If they don’t have news don’t bother streaming

That's actually not true for all players. We discussed this quite extensively with players and internally. A lot of commenters have said they want us to be there and talk about the game, even if it's not brand new info. We understand not everybody feels the same way, so we always try to announce the topic of the show a day before on Twitter, so people who don't care about a specific part can skip the show if they want to.

So if rehashing the entire of story the games up until now is the focus of the stream, what's the point unless their unveiling something new to the story?

Episode 3 is the continuation of the story and has a couple of characters that not everybody might be familiar with. We therefore decided to recap the story so far and have announced that last week on the show and yesterday on Twitter.

edit: removing a "not"

Ok well read the comments on this thread....that’s all I’ll say about it

I mean that's literally why I replied to you. :D I'm reading the comments here and I've been reading the comments about us doing State of the Game only when we have big news. A lot of the decisions on community communication are made with player feedback in mind.

Last year we skipped a couple of weeks with State of the Game and players told us that's also not what they want. We can't make everybody happy, obviously, but we think this works best for most in the community and for us.

Dude, I would be surprised if more than 5 players can tell you a single name of a TD2 character, good or bad.

Well, good thing we recapped the story then. :D

In all seriousness, we know that the story can be quite hidden and as Episode 3 has two additional narrative stories we thought it's a good time to recap.

This is why I said this episode feels tone deaf.

You're always going to have people complain. Personally I don't think "people complained" is a valid justification for not paying attention to what people are being most vocal about. This SotG would have made more sense in a week where you hadn't just finished telling us for two weeks how you're essentially remaking the core of the game. Respectfully, it's just a strange time to expect this subject to be received well.

People can totally complain about the show and that they feel it wasn't satisfying. We are making sure to give you guys a heads-up on what the topic of the State of the Game is, either on the show itself but definitely on the announcement tweet on Tuesday.

We understand that the current way of communicating about Episode 3 is not very clear for everybody and that's something we constantly bring up with all other teams that are involved in these processes.

OP's post says not this week, and not the last week of February. That either gives us the week of 17-21, or it's getting delayed to March?

Seeing everyone else's sentiment, my money's on March.

I'll take that money!

Thanks for the response chris. But im sure many others like myself do NOT use twitter. If you guys have no new news on content, could you also address reddit in a post telling us xyz will happen instead of abc? I think a lot of us were caught off guard.

Look man. I know y'all cant show your hand too soon, but we need some real substance here.

Joker posts a State of the Game thread a couple of hours before the show and uses the information we post on Twitter / in the last show. You can definitely find that on here.

I mean, check all of the other State of the Game threads. I'm always posting right afterwards and while it's happening. Totally fair to criticize us but please choose something that we can actually address.
