Rather than fix the color of the first slot, just roll the second slot so it's the same color as the first. Let all attributes be possible on the first slot. The end result will be the same - no loot with all three colors. However, this will still allow for hybrid pieces - e.g. Golan with blue core + 2 yellows. If someone wants a three-color piece, they can then re-roll one of the non-core attributes.

It definitely seems like the biggest contention is just how many possible gear pieces (with the currently proposed solution) would become mathematically impossible to get.

The trouble is finding a balance that will reduce the frustrating frequency of Rainbow Loot for those that don't want it, while keeping it within the realm of possibility for those that do.

I can understand that.

Maybe you all should hit every social media outlet (forums, here, Twitter, etc) and see what oddities in loot people use in their builds.

I've heard of multiple builds that would be impossible with the proposed system...

If given a choice I prefer this option.

Way head of you. The broad-spectrum feedback seems to be that brands with the 1/2/3pc bonus that lean away from their core (Badger, Golan, Hana-U, Ceska, Grupo, and even Gila as a bit of an outlier) are the main things that hybrid players are worried about.

Meanwhile the more 'pure' brands like Overlord, Airaldi, Murakami, etc. don't really feel much of a downside from the SOTG-proposed change.

We'll be closely following discussions on the topic before and throughout the PTS.
