I was an early adopter to The Division and Division 2 games (PC). I have 450 hours into The Division (rookie #'s according to some) and 950 hours into The Division 2. Through all of that, my boys (ages 8, 10, and 12 now) would sit and watch me play and ask questions about pretty much everything in the game. This past year, my stepson's dad got him (the 10 year-old) The Division 2 on one of the ridiculous sales for the Xbox1 and I got WoNY for them.

It's been fantastic (and somewhat hilarious) to watch them discover the different areas of DC and NY, fight bosses, bitch about the RNG, and learn how to put builds together. The one thing that was disappointing was that after I got WoNY, they chose to boost their toons instead of finishing the main DC campaign; in hindsight, I should have waited until after they finished the main campaign to get them WoNY. The net affect of this is that they came into WoNY with way less resources and $$$ than I had when I went into WoNY. I think I was maxed out on resources because I wasn't crafting much and had close to $1 million in the bank, so to speak.

From a purely mechanics standpoint, they do a good job of playing game. Sometimes, I'll sit and watch them play and offer up pointers on how they should approach different missions and enemies but for the most part, they have figured it out all on their own. They are playing on challenging difficulty level and want to make the jump to Heroic but their builds aren't there yet. I pointed out that because they didn't build up the warchest through the DC campaign, they were going to struggle until they had enough resources where they could recalibrate and craft pretty much at-will. I've encouraged them to do the open-world events to level up the CP's to 4 and even if they die, they should start seeing some slightly better loot.

This past weekend, I went through both of their inventories and marked stuff for recalibration and favorited the pieces that were really good. I discovered that they had hardly started to fill up their recal library. Their excuse was that they are trying to build up $$$ by selling stuff but I again pointed out that would not necessarily have been the case had they finished the main campaign and played through WT1 through WT5. I was able to put together a decent shotgun and SMG build with The Matador (Perfect Adrenaline) and Badger chest with Intimidate using Sokolov gloves, 2 pieces Golan, and 1 piece Gila. It's a 4/2/0 build that uses Mender Mine and the half-shield.

So, here's to all the Dads (and Moms) who have and are introducing their kids to the joys (and the frustrations) of being Division 2 agent!

What a great story! I love hearing families bonding over the game.
