So apparently I have been an idiot all this time and have been doing it wrong. I play on PC with mostly default controls and settings, so my spacebar is used to get into and out of cover. I used to think that to perform a cover-to-cover move, I had to wait for the spacebar icon on another piece of cover to show up, then press spacebar once to get out of my current cover, manually run to that piece of cover, then press spacebar again to get into cover. Like this.
That was until I was shown that I have to aim for another piece of cover while in cover, then KEEP THE SPACEBAR PRESSED until my character automatically completes the cover-to-cover move! Like this! My mind was blown. I have been an idiot all this time and have been doing cover-to-cover moves wrong. When you perform it the right way, the spacebar gets filled on the target cover, your character moves faster and slicker, and takes far less damage. And it just looks cooler. Also, you can cover HUGE distances!
In short: to perform a cover-to-cover move, get in cover, aim for another piece of cover, then press the spacebar, or whatever key bind you have set for that, and keep it pressed until your character has performed the cover-to-cover move, automatically.
