I'm heading off for a long weekend but can provide more technical details when I'm back

This screams that you have something else messing with your browser - what I can’t say, but happy to see what it might be when you can.

I can’t help but feel you must have something else conflicting here. We are not blocking anyone from using an ad blocker on our site. We don’t actually run any adverts.

Even if you are trying to block tracking tools these are not required. Does this happen in incognito if you only enable your blocker and no other plug ins? And is it really all pages?

Wouldn't it have been a better compromise to have the navigation bar be in position: fixed; at a 100vw width? At least for the time being, as there's still quite a bit of zooming happening for as long as the site remains fixed width.

tried that. You still had to zoom in to read the content and because viewport scaling is not set the nav made it awkward when you did zoom in as you could fit less content on the screen :)

Clans however, looks like the URL you have saved is incorrect. Should be http://services.runescape.com/m=clan-hiscores/landing.ws as taken from this new navigation on the homepage.

That sounds odd - you should contact support for that with your RSN and they can look into it for you

Oh they are coming - i'm just making sure it works how I expect against part of the site first. It's a compromise as the site is still a fixed width so it's not what you would define as "responsive" but it's an improvement for mobile users

a small step in the right direction ;)

This allows hackers to see which user ids are valid and worth hacking, and gives away what some may consider private information.

Thanks for the tag. It’s a tad more complicated as to why that flow does what it does. I’ll admit it is not ideal but at this time we are not able to discuss account security measures.

I will however elaborate as to why the flow displays time played in the games...

We had an issue when we released Old School on mobile that people were recovering their RuneScape account then not understanding why they had an account with no progress when they logged into OS. So we use that as a method to inform people which games the account played and also to help them understand that one account covers two games. We display the time in brackets so it cannot be used as information to recover the account.

I would advise you do not share that link publicly - hide it the same way you did your email :) On the plus side always be wary of emails you are not sure are legit!

Hi both - can you explain what happens when you try to add the skill in RuneMetrics. Does it appear in the list? When you try to add it does nothing appear? Which part of RuneMetrics are you using? :)

Thanks

Thanks for bringing it up. We’ve done a brief diagnosis of the cause but at present it is a tricky fix that is not as simple as just “remove boss hiscores”. We’re aware of the issue and have raised it with the corresponding teams as it is not something the web team have any control over.

I appreciate this might appear as us brushing it under the carpet or throwing it over the proverbial web team wall but I can assure it is not. I’ve actually discussed it today with our department manager so we really are not ignoring it. Equally there is also a lot of work for these teams to complete. A lot of these resources rightly or wrongly are shared between RS and OS and the engine guys as legendary as they are need to prioritise their work.

That being said Jagex are hiring so if you want to help bolster the team we do encourage you to apply!

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to respond to my points of criticism. Mods regularly bring up "spaghetti code" or technical debt as a reason to explain why certain feature requests are impossible, or at least not practical, to do at the moment. From what I've gathered I understand that Jagex has been big on using in-house and pretty customized solutions from the start. Do you think the two are related? Do you think you'd be in as much technical debt if they had opted to use more open and third-party tech for their problems? Would you go with Java/HippoCMS again if you had a chance to start over?

Well proprietary software is not all bad but it all depends on how it used and designed.

We are now much better at embracing 3rd parties now but I cannot comment on what back-end infrastructure we may / no longer use for various reasons.
