Noticed quite some controversial posts on Mistlands biome. Me, i absolutely love every bit of it!
For some, it's too hard, for others too easy? For our group of hardened Veterans of the Plains, the difficulty is just right, a new challenge, but manageable with a cautious & strategic approach. I was so excited to see how they would manage to come up with yet another biome that feels entirely unique, unlike all the others. And they have outdone themselves yet again, haven't they?!
The impenetrable fog felt like we were entering a Stephen King novel, I loved the atmosphere! Wow, the humongous beasts that were lurking within its depths, the monstrous sounds, it was so gorgeous! And just as the mist was about to become tedious, we crafted our first wisps. Iron Gate have an amazing talent for experience design, they get everything right, please dear Iron Gate, never change! You definitely know better than most of the complainers here on reddit! (downvote me all you want, but they manage to push my buttons just right)
The topology of the new biome is gorgeous, even with abusing the GPS map feature we manage to get lost and split up all the time, run deeper into the deadly Mistlands as we try to dash for safety in our panic, it is so cool! The extreme vertical variance of the Mistlands betrays seemingly short map distances, and with all our expertise in navigating the other biomes, we keep getting stuck in steep chasms as we try to outmaneuver the leeches, I feel like we need to start from scratch. Amazing!
There's a new twist to metal mining, remnants of gigantic armour, friendly dwarves in their fortresses of stone, magic roots to drain, entirely new game mechanics, this is truly so much more than I had expected! LOL we actually disregarded the developer's recommendation and just kept playing with our existing savegame and THEY MADE IT WORK ANYWAY! No glitches, we just explore new islands and it's all glory and fun. We have only just entered our first Mistlands dungeon, there was a (clearly visible) hole right behind the entrance and we managed to unintentionally fall through it into an evil hatchling hive a combined 5 times before pulling ourselves together, can you imagine the ensuing discord hilarity?!
Oh and there is Eitr, what the deus?? Can't wait to see what this new type of mana resource will be used for. And we have barely even ventured into the first Mistlands dungeon, it feels like there is still lots of new content for us to explore.
PS: Apparently there are some reddit issues with Ballista buildings or sth. being annoying to players, but frankly at this point they could just auto-target my character and I wouldn't mind. I have never had such an unexpectedly awesome free patch to any game before as far as I can remember, I am used to microtransaction DLCs for a few cosmetic changes, some new leader portraits, and now this! Best Early Access value for money you could ever wish for. I love you all fellow redditors, see you in Valhalla!
