[2021] The penalty for leaving a competitive Valorant match MUST be higher.

Coming from CSGO, I just started playing Valorant after not playing for around a year. I thought 'hey, it's a new season, lets play my placements and see where my rank is'.

I have now played 4 of my placements, and not a single one of them has been a 5v5 game of Valorant. I have had one or two people leave every single game. How is this acceptable in a game as competitive as Valorant? I don't understand why leaving a game gives you such a little penalty, like 5 minutes? Really? Even leaving a game and joining back 5 rounds later should have a significantly bigger penalty than what it has now. That could flip the entire outcome of the game.

There needs to be bigger penalties for leavers in competitive games of Valorant. This is just unacceptable.

This is asked for a lot but it's something we can't do because it causes RR manipulation and toxicity.

People would make alt accounts to AFK for a friend to help them not lose as much. Alternatively people would dog pile on players to get them to AFK, especially if they were low on the leaderboard. So lots of players would turn toxic to try and force a player to leave the match, so they wouldn't lose as much RR.

Leaving the match, or dc'ing needs to not be incentivized so you need to target the action directly. Our penalties do escalate and AFK'ing once may be a low penalty, but there are plenty of people with multi-week bans from playing competitive for AFK'ing(Trust me I get lots of twitter DM's asking to get penalties lifted). Also the system will remember if you are a habitual AFK'er even if you just served your punishment. It requires you to not AFK in order to play ranked, otherwise the penalty just becomes insane.

We also no longer award you Ranked Rating if you AFK and your team wins, you will guarantee lose -12 RR if this happens(as long as you were afk from the match for a decent amount of time).
