Very simple: The fact that I'm climbing faster and retaining my new rank (with the system's help) is making me an overall better player because:

  1. I'm facing better players on the opposite team FASTER (didn't happen before). When I first get there, I get stomped, but I always look back and try to improve on my mistakes so when I come back, I'm a bit better.
  2. After a couple of losses (and with the help of the demotion protection) and wins, I'm able to improve to the point of really being relevant next time I face these team compositions.
  3. After this grind (loose, win, train, improve) I am managing to climb and get past that previous blockage.
  4. When I face plat players now, I able to put up a great fight (again, didn't happen before).

That's it. How do you feel about the system? Do you think it's helping you too?

Thank you for the feedback!

The new system's goal is definitely to get you to the rank you belong while maintaing fair match making. So even tho you may be going against tough opponents, you can't stop your MMR and Rank converging and you becoming that rank. Even if you start to underperform and your MMR falls below your rank, you will start to be pushed downward. Essentially, as long as you are actually playing ranked no matter what you will get the rank you deserve. Most Ranked/Elo systems require some amount of games to be confident in your rank, and that's what the system is doing.

You see this in how you gain more points for a win, or less for a loss, when you are playing opponents above your current rank.

This is a controversial change, I understand the feedback "If I'm playing Immortals I should be Immortal". I believe we handed out Rank too quickly in the previous system. Unfortunately you always have to have a limit to how fast people rank up, or down. Is it fair that we give TenZ #1 on the leaderboard after just 5 games? If that's unfair 10? 20? 50? There has to be some give and take with saying "We are confident you belong at your rank when you get there, because you played enough games to prove it!"

We are also not done with improving the system, and making changes. We've heard lots of feedback and already have some positive changes in the works. Hopefully we can talk about them soon!

Well on the other site you could also ask:Is it fair that you give TenZ queue times of 3h+ because it is based on hidden MMR and that he can't climb to Top #1 because he can't find games as fast as people with Plat 3 hidden MMR giving him no chance to prove himself over your mentioned 10-50+ games.

This seems to be already fixed a little bit as he can find games now.

I understand that the system takes time to find your rank and that it takes games and time for the actual ranks to mean something but on the other hand I thought this would reset to P3 every act now which doesn't really align with how long the system takes vs. how long an act goes. I feel if there would be a possibility to counteract these two so that the ranks are a little bit more representative after a shorter amount of games it would be nice considring the length of the act (this act will only be 50 days and the ranks will probably match more the hidden MMR after like estimated 21-25 days, which is half of the act).

Yea TenZ had that issue for the first week, it was actually an issue that really only hit very few accounts. We fixed it, he's seeing 10min que times which is much more along the lines of what we expect for high MMR players. So now that, that's, fixed it should be much better and easier for him to play on his main.

We won't be doing that big of a soft reset for every single Act. A soft reset of that level will only be per episode. We probably will do something with the leaderboard, but right now we are investigating and talking about what our per Act resets will look like. Overall I don't want to exhaust players by soft resetting them every 2 months. I think it's fair to keep the big soft reset per episode, and do minor tweaks per act. More to come about this in the future hopefully!
