Hey All,

I recently came back to Valorant after an extended break. I played extensively in the Beta (Immortal) and a little in Episode 1, Act 2 (Diamond 2 or 3, don't remember where I ended at this exact moment). I came back with the new Act that just launched and placed in Gold 1 playing against Gold 3-Diamond 1 players. That's fine, as I haven't played in awhile and I figured I'd need to rank up again anyways.

However, I'm confused on my last game and promotion. I was sitting at 86 RR in Gold 1, won a game fairly handedly against plat players, won 29 RR, and somehow ended up Gold 3 with 15 RR. Am I missing something about a mechanic that allows me to skip an entire rank because of my high MMR? I even logged out and logged back in to verify I wasn't actually in Gold 2 with 15 RR.

I know that with the previous rank system you could jump around drastically, but with the RR system, I didn't think this was possible. Anyone want to enlighten this confused player on the new RR system or is what just happened not normal?

The system is based on MMR.

So if you are doing really well and belong at a higher rank, the current system will double promote you. It's a way to correct you if you have a drastic skill change. Good job it means the system thinks you probably belong in plat, keep it up!
