When the observer switches to the POV of a player that is gecko flashed, I can't quickly figure out where that player is/was, especially if they die and the observer instantly switches to another player. I'm not going to look at the minimap to figure it out in the middle of an execute/fight. Why doesn't Riot just make the screen visible for observers like any other flash? I can't imagine how hard it is to follow for a casual viewer.

Yup we've added this to our backlog to get fixed at some point. It is a larger scope rework to do than you'd expect unfortunately.

If you don't mind sharing, what makes the rework more complex than expected?

Basically the technical backend of Gekko's dizzy doesn't use the traditional flashbang overlays which are easily filtered out by the observer setting and require a specific art setup that would require reauthoring both the flash application functionality and the art assets themselves, which would already be a super tight/painful timeline for the champs patch. We always want to keep the champs patch light on ability functionality changes anyways to avoid bug risks and painful cross-timezone overtime if something were to break and we only find out about it overnight.

I'm not an engineer so I can't get more detailed than that without potentially spreading misinformation.
