External link →I think it's temporary - they are working on an improvement over the old one (the new one is at least an improvement in visibility). It's in the patch notes somewhere
We're going to do at least one more pass on the minimap icons before launch. Without a portrait breaking up the space the icon appears larger, but it's the same size as before.
