So I live in South Africa (far from any server) so i was delighted to hear of a closer server being announced however when i ping Bahrain the latency is higher than that of EUW despite being closer. Can anyone explain this

Yeah, just because it's closer physically won't always mean you get a better ping there. I would assume that a lot of internet in South Africa routes up the West coast of Africa: https://www.submarinecablemap.com/
I hope we put game servers in South Africa one day, we know there are players there, but we have no plans to right now.

Do you have any update on indian servers? or a rumor on south asia being part of middle east region? The south asian gamers are really tired of hype and want to have some real update that we can depend upon.

Whats the status on African servers? possibly somewhere around Central Africa? I've heard rumors of SA but it is still pretty far from Ethiopia where I'm from.

No, and I doubt we ever will. We don't want to add too many servers, as it splits the matchmaking population up too much.
What's a shard? Pls elaborate
A shard is a collection of game servers and platform resources that serves a given VALORANT player population. So, for example, the Asia Pacific shard consists of a set of platform resources (services and databases) hosted in Singapore, and then game servers in Singapore, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. All players in the AP shard's countries (basically everything east and south of India, China and Russia) will play on the best game servers, based on their latency and who they're grouped with. Players can only player against other players in the same shard.
The other shards are America (split into North America, LATAM, Brazil zones), Europe and Korea.
Have there ever been plans for a smaller server to accommodate the players in the western pacific aka Hawaii? I'm glad for North Africa but it sucks knowing they'll have better ping now than I get in America ):

I live in Kuwait and I get 320 ms ping from Bahrain and 160 ms ping from Frankfurt 1. Someone explain pls?
