1078s valerant community stream I'm Ashley and
1080s I'm one of the global Community managers
1082s for valerant and I'm Adrian a global
1084s social media strategist on valerant and
1086s I'm also an ascended initiator main but
1088s that's not why we're here this is the
1090s first time we've done a stream like this
1091s but we wanted to try something a little
1093s different uh one of the goals for
1094s today's stream is to celebrate the
1096s community and show off all the cool
1098s stuff you've done you already saw a lot
1100s of it in our slideshow earlier but those
1102s are actually all submitted To Us by the
1103s community and I'm so in awe at how
1105s talented you all are I recently started
1107s doing our monthly Community round
1109s roundups where I collect fan art and
1110s cosplays and it's honestly now one of my
1112s favorite parts of my job and on the
1114s social front we spend a ton of time
1117s going through what y'all are posting
1118s about and around valerin this year we've
1121s seen thousands of hours of crazy Aces
1124s highlights with dope edits creative
1126s combo usages for you and your Duo to try
1128s out and so much more so for today's
1131s stream we're going to look back at 2024
1133s we'll have a discussion with the devs
1134s about urine patches and other major fe
1137s uh feature releases in 2024 such as the
1139s new map Abyss the new Outlaw Gun and new
1142s agents clove and visce we'll have a
1144s community segment where we speak where
1145s we speak with a lovely couple who met on
1147s valerant we'll be inviting a few Pro
1149s players to participate in a fun quiz
1151s that was created by the community and we
1153s have superlatives to announce these
1155s super relatives are for the top
1156s performing players in our community we
1158s looked at the number of kills head shots
1160s assists and more so stay tuned for that
1163s we will also have an orts discussion to
1165s talk about valant Champions Tour and
1167s some of the recent changes we made to it
1169s and at the very end we may or may not
1171s have a tease of an upcoming agent being
1173s released next year and throughout the
1175s stream we'll be checking in on chat and
1177s reading out some of your comments and
1178s questions 2024 was a huge year for us
1182s with all the new content that we brought
1183s to the game in so many different ways we
1185s welcomed in a boatload of new players
1187s with valer on console from the initial
1189s closed beta announcement at the summer
1191s game Fest to just launching the game
1193s weeks later uh we had a ton of new
1195s players jumping in with dope aim shum
1197s off focus mode sharing their clips and
1200s highlights and clutch plays and so much
1201s more and since I got to work on it it's
1203s definitely one of my favorite drops of
1205s 2024 so chat what's your favorite moment
1208s of
1209s 2024 I feel like mine would probably be
1212s the releas the release of Abyss I
1214s actually struggle struggle a lot on new
1216s maps but I love it when the whole
1217s Community is coming together and
1218s figuring out how to best play it like
1220s figing all the lineups and the best
1222s comps um luckily my favorite agent is
1224s Omen who's pretty versatile and I feel
1226s like I can play on most Maps now I
1228s actually think one of my favorite
1229s moments from Abyss was during a uh
1232s Premier week during when Abyss was do
1234s you remember this you actually joined my
1236s team as a sub and I learned like I'm a
1238s SOA man so I learned the Recon lineups
1240s on both sites for you know information
1242s and we won one of the matches and I
1244s remember someone on the team falling off
1246s more than once it wasn't me it was you I
1250s don't remember if I was the one it could
1252s have been me it was probably me but I
1254s remember winning the game so we know we
1257s should we we did we did stop at least
1258s one one team
1260s so all right so before our first segment
1264s uh we're excited to announce that we'll
1265s actually be involved with uh helping us
1267s design a spray that will be implemented
1269s in game next year so a product manager
1271s from the Expressions team Jack is here

1275s context hey folks my name is Jack I'm
1277s from the valer Expressions team for
1279s those of you who don't know Expressions
1281s is the group that makes all the in-game
1282s Cosmetics the uh gun skins gun buddies
1285s player cards sprays U anyways that's
1287s what I do for my job but today I'm here
1289s to announce the first ever Community
1291s spray challenge the way this is going to
1293s work is throughout the course of the
1294s stream uh we'll have a series of polls
1296s those polls will include different
1297s aspects of the spray including the
1299s agents in it what they're doing uh and
1301s then meanwhile one of our artists Dennis
1302s is cooking backstage he'll be working on
1304s the spray live as you guys give feedback
1306s uh and including those results from the
1308s poll um please keep in mind that getting
1310s this type of stuff in game does take a
1311s little bit uh but look out for the spray
1313s sometime in
1314s 2025 so let's start the first Poll for
1317s the spray which two agents should we
1318s feature
1319s sage and Omen clove and killjoy or sky
1322s and
1323s vice and while we wait for the poll
1325s results to come in let's actually take a
1327s look at the other room where they'll be
1329s working on the spray in real
1342s time the global social lead on valerant
1344s I am Denis I'm senior consant artist at
1346s valerant and 95 uh percent of my time
1350s I'm working on the Skins hell yeah well
1352s as you know today um Dennis is here he's
1354s going to be drawing and working on the
1355s spray so let's look what chat's saying

1375s sage and Omen personally I think that I
1378s would like to see Sage Omen win um how
1380s about you yeah I am too you know I love
1382s Omen he has a really cool story and no
1385s one knows it well yeah and not to not to
1387s bias the chat you all pick what you want
1388s to pick so like this is all up to you
1390s you've got about a minute to pick this
1392s um but as we go like Dennis tell us more
1394s about being a concept artist what is
1396s that like you know that's unbelievable
1399s honestly I worked on many releases but
1401s this one is the best one uh because we
1403s have uh this fre this freedom of
1406s creativity we can do anything what we
1408s want and I understood it from the my
1410s first task I see yeah well what was your
1413s favorite skin you ever made uh that was
1415s my first task you can believe it and my
1418s first task uh was a uh Elder flame wow
1421s uh and that was a huge challenge for us
1424s and for me too because like you know
1426s it's like first thing what I have to do
1428s yeah and we pushed the limits of the
1431s whole industry and just made one one
1434s skin Dragon guns Dragon guns Dragon guns
1437s okay and what was your favorite VAR
1439s variant uh the classic one I guess okay
1442s the standard because you know uh the
1445s rest of the colors Made It by different
1448s people and uh I and timour we started
1451s the first one oh yeah it's like a my
1454s personal one that makes sense what's the
1456s like your favorite gun to design for uh
1459s I would say that's uh the easiest one
1462s the easiest one is the Vandal Vandal is
1464s pretty pretty pretty easy to do because
1466s it's already aggressive it's already it
1468s has uh so many Dynamic lines that's why
1472s uh it's easy to start uh it's a best
1475s best time uh and in the same time we've
1477s got the most uh complex gun which is
1480s really hard to work it is uh Odin the
1483s Odin's the most complex yes even though
1485s it's got a lot of space to work on y
1487s yeah and the biggest one the scale uh
1490s becomes like twice bigger uh and
1492s everything you can do in a like for the
1495s like for the Vandal and then you need to
1497s reinvent the same style
1499s right that's why it's so difficult well
1501s that's very interesting now I wonder
1503s about um the phantom versus Vandal that
1507s I guess you just answered the question
1508s here you prefer the Vandal chat what do
1510s you all think yeah that's really
1512s interesting to see that the this endless
1515s bottle Phantom versus I'm not seeing
1518s anyone in the chat saying that they like
1520s Phantom or Vandal um so we'll continue
1523s to see if they have any any comments any
1525s thoughts here but I think we're also
1527s near wrapping our first poll um is that
1530s right and so I believe that the results
1533s are that sage and Omen have won yay
1536s that's what we wanted woohoo no bias no
1538s bias but we'll start the second Poll for

1769s Abyss Outlaw visce and clove if you have

1805s live live balance changes uh my name is
1807s Joey seus and I am the maps team design
1809s lead thanks so much for joining us y'all
1812s let's just dive right into it let's talk
1814s about these yearend patches now they
1817s started around August and they're
1818s actually going up until this upcoming
1820s week which we'll we'll get to that here
1821s in a little bit uh and there were some
1823s spicy updates that came throughout these
1825s past couple of weeks such as agent
1827s changes map changes and more I wanted to
1829s ask can you provide some context as to
1833s what was our thought process in
1834s launching these Patches at this time of
1836s the year yeah yeah yeah I can answer
1838s that one um so this point of the year is
1840s the time when VCT is kind of wrapped up
1842s with for the year you know we're mostly
1843s into offseason events so we can kind of
1845s start balancing the game taking some
1846s more aggressive passes at systemic
1847s things like you know Gunplay uh the mini
1849s map stuff that June will talk about
1851s later um and you know just kind of not
1853s mess up or break the game too much
1855s during the active
1856s season so during the year in pches we
1859s actually adjusted Sentinels and
1860s controllers quite a bit uh how did you
1862s feel about these agents prior to the
1863s changes and how do you feel about them
1865s now yeah so uh I'll talk about the
1867s Sentinels first U for Cipher and Sage
1870s you know I think it was pretty obvious
1871s to most people that Cipher was kind of
1873s the king of the Sentinel role it was
1874s like um he had all this Global
1877s Information he had nasty kill setups you
1879s could get so much out of the character
1881s um so he just kind of wanted to take a
1882s light pass and also deal with some of
1884s those trip wires that you can run into
1886s and kind of hit without much gameplay
1888s like you couldn't shoot them even when
1889s you knew knew they were there so we kind
1891s of wanted to ease those up a little bit
1893s um and then when it comes to Sage she's
1895s just a little bit on the weaker side
1896s especially for good players so we wanted
1898s to make sure like hey all the things you
1900s can do on Sage are satisfying are fun
1902s are kind of stopping rushes reactively
1905s um so that was kind of our thought
1906s process for Cypher and Sage um and then
1909s for the omen changes they're a little
1910s bit spicy I know there's some thoughts
1911s there so we'll have to be uh kind of you
1913s know assessing and watching them live as
1915s they perform uh see if we get kind of
1917s those highle Choice structure gains that
1919s we were hoping for With The Changes um
1921s and yeah I think that's pretty much it
1922s for 910 and Sentinels and controllers
1925s gotcha so aside from Sentinels and
1927s controllers we also adjusted Phoenix and
1930s neon so what was the thought process
1932s Behind these changes yeah yeah yeah I'll
1935s pass that over to Nick to talk about
1936s Phoenix yeah um so the thought process
1939s for Phoenix at least was that we really
1941s like Phoenix and we really like how kind
1943s of simple he is and we didn't really
1944s want to change too much of that we did
1945s want to make sure and sharpen his
1947s capability of being conf ident Brash
1949s bold getting in there as as one might
1951s expect with from Phoenix's personality
1953s and like his kit generally speaking and
1955s so we thought all the abilities were
1956s right and so we just kind of organized
1958s some things around to get more of that
1959s sensation out of him and of course some
1961s quality of life um that made it a little
1963s bit easier to use the wall to get it
1965s into positions that she wanted to and
1966s we're like really happy with how those
1968s are playing out um and so and as well as
1971s we wanted him to be you know a little
1972s bit better at getting in there like you
1974s know like neon and among other Mobility
1976s dualists you know um but I know a lot of
1979s people want to hear about neon so Dan
1981s please take it away yeah yeah yeah I can
1983s talk about neon um so with neon we kind
1985s of wanted to sharpen her identity as an
1987s aggressive entry duelist we wanted to
1989s kind of make that decision of like is
1991s she an entry duelist is she kind of one
1992s of those more brawling Duelists uh so
1994s with 811 we leaned into oh she's an
1996s entry duelist that's kind of what we
1997s want her to do in the game um and so we
2000s did this slide and shoot stuff you know
2001s it's been mixed it's been very powerful
2003s obviously so we'll have to be adjusting
2005s that as you know a lot of people
2006s watching the stream probably already
2007s know um um but that was kind of the
2009s thought process is that we really wanted
2011s to sharpen neon as a character who is
2013s really good at following up on Allied
2014s utility and getting into sites and like
2016s making those entry frags happen and I
2017s think you know outside of the power
2019s level just gen generally being too high
2022s I think the changes have been doing
2023s mostly what we want them to do just a
2025s little bit too well yeah and that patch
2027s is coming out this week so stay tuned on
2031s Tuesday or you know coming up this week
2033s so uh but another thing that was also
2035s new to the game that has kind of added
2037s some
2038s variety some fun is the Regent Shield
2041s right it's the new shield in valerant
2043s that is priced in between the light and
2044s the heavy armor and it has a pool of
2047s Health that can be regenerated over time
2049s if you you know get out of combat uh
2052s how's regen Shield looking how's it
2054s performing are you know are we looking
2056s to make any changes to it just quite yet
2057s or we still kind of like letting it cool
2059s for a bit Yeah Yeah Yeah we're
2061s definitely letting it cook on the live
2062s design side it's a little bit too early
2064s to really like make any dramatic changes
2066s we're still kind of assessing it um it
2067s certainly didn't break the game it
2069s certainly didn't you know make anything
2071s dramatically worse like so I'm mostly
2074s happy with how it's shipped um we'll
2076s we'll have yeah that's the that's the
2078s goal
2079s that's break it like yeah uh yeah we'll
2083s always have to be assessing this kind of
2084s thing as it goes um but yeah I think I
2087s think there will be some situations
2088s where people will want to pick it up
2090s we'll be tracking like economic
2091s snowballing how the uh additional Health
2093s kind of brings into different rounds you
2095s know all that kind of stuff um but for
2096s now I think we're pretty happy to just
2098s kind of let it sit see how it goes for
2100s now cool so we also made some changes to
2103s how the combat report works and we have
2105s some map ping changes coming up in 9.11
2107s which will be next week so what was the
2109s reasoning Behind these changes and what
2111s are the
2112s goals uh yeah so whenever we're like
2116s working on valerant overall and just
2118s like thinking about the game we're not
2119s just looking at weapons or agents or
2121s Maps we're also just thinking about how
2123s all the different systems within
2125s valerant support that like core tactical
2127s game play that I think is just the
2129s promise and excitement of the game um
2132s and we just started noticing some cases
2135s where some of these features like combat
2137s report and map pinging were being used
2138s to create kind of like unintended
2140s gameplay advantages the the combat
2143s report ones like pretty easy to
2145s understand it's like you flash out of B
2147s main on ascent and run out and die and
2149s then your combat report says you flashed
2151s four and you're like oh there's four on
2153s B right which is like information you
2155s maybe had no way of knowing um we just
2157s felt like that that was just information
2158s leak that um was making the game worse
2162s rather than better and we tried to find
2163s a way to make it so you still had your
2165s like you know combat report your
2167s information about how effective you were
2169s you know about the round still available
2170s to you at the end of the round rather
2172s than just right when you died um and
2174s then for map pinging
2176s stuff we mainly were looking at cases
2179s where
2180s like uh the this very precise perfect
2184s information ping was being used to cause
2187s you to get kills in situations that you
2190s maybe wouldn't have been able to unless
2192s you had that like very precise piece of
2194s UI information that was being given to
2196s you like ultimately you know when you're
2198s playing the game and if you're like
2199s pulling up your map to generate a ping
2201s in like a specific location so you can
2203s perfectly line up a wall bang spot
2205s that's not really like the point of that
2207s system right like that's not like why we
2209s designed that system ultimately and also
2212s you know um it feels weird that like
2215s when you die you're like coming to your
2217s team ping for me ping for me because you
2218s don't want to pull up your map because
2219s you're in main smoked off like trying to
2221s you know spam the spike so you know it's
2224s going to be a change like it'll take
2225s some getting used to for people but um
2228s you know play with it give it an honest
2230s shot and uh let us know what you think
2232s of course
2233s yeah yeah we're going to have to revisit
2236s our strategies a little bit yeah when we
2238s get back to Premiere it's going to be
2240s something uh no no more p no more
2243s flaming each other for not pinging I
2244s would never flame anyone no I know it
2246s was me I
2249s so okay so let's talk about the sunset
2251s changes not only did we make changes to
2253s the site but we also changed the
2254s lighting can you take us through the
2255s process of making map changes like this
2258s yeah uh anytime we make changes to our
2259s Maps we want to be like really
2260s deliberate so first steps kind of just
2261s identifying a problem a lot of that's
2263s just uh reading player feedback uh you
2266s know playing the game observing Pro
2267s playay uh for sunset in particular we
2270s weren't really happy with how postplant
2272s was playing out you know as you can kind
2274s of tell we had a bit of a problem with
2276s uh the the bomb getting smoked off and
2279s the spike being uh smoked off and
2282s pinging and and a lot of like spam going
2284s on so we tackled it in a few ways um you
2286s know the big one was probably the non-
2289s pin cover in Maine we removed that we
2291s changed where you can actually plant the
2292s spike and we adjusted cover too to give
2294s players uh you know more opportunities
2296s to actually play on the site during post
2298s plants um and so far so good we've seen
2301s like a healthy uptick in retakes um
2303s we've also seen just like healthier heat
2304s map data and players seem to be enjoying
2306s that change uh pretty well also we kind
2309s of got rid of the really nasty Cipher
2311s trip wire which I know players were
2312s really not a big fan of um and yeah the
2315s lighting uh was actually um that came
2319s from uh an internal event that we do
2320s called Thunderdome it's basically like a
2323s hackathon that we do here at Riot where
2324s riers can just kind of work on four fun
2327s little projects our lighting artist on
2329s the maps team um he uh wanted to make
2332s the map feel more like a sunset you know
2334s go kind of lean into the vibe a bit um
2337s and then in review we saw like a lot of
2338s opportunities for like just better
2340s gameplay Clarity um so it's kind of a
2343s nice win between Art and Design we
2345s polished that up a bit and then we got
2346s it out into players hands and I think
2347s that's been received pretty well too
2350s yeah so now we can actually take space
2352s on Sunset we can actually take up all
2354s that space and play on site so I'm I'm
2357s telling this to all my teammates from
2359s here on out so uh get ready uh another
2362s thing that we brought to the game is the
2364s outlaw now me personally I'm not a like
2368s sniper at all Marshall I can't get that
2370s away from me the op oh my God I can't
2372s even spend them any credits on anything
2374s uh but the outlaw has made its way into
2377s my mid by round surprisingly um how do
2380s we feel the outlaw is performing right
2382s now and what was the decision behind
2383s shipping it this
2385s year yeah um I think we're feeling
2388s pretty great about the outlaw and I'm
2389s glad to hear that you're finding it
2391s useful even though you're not a you know
2393s self-proclaimed not a sniper user um I
2395s think that when we think about weapons
2398s in val we're always thinking about new
2399s stuff in Valor and weapons especially um
2402s and the decision to like release one or
2404s not really comes down to like do we feel
2406s like it's a viable candidate do we feel
2408s like it's adding something to the game
2409s that is going to be like in contention
2412s with the others right not just for the
2413s sake of variety of course you know
2415s having having something new will produce
2417s some variety but like we really wanted
2419s to focus in and get something that's
2421s like oh yeah I could see where it's used
2423s I could see why it's going to be
2424s valuable even if it's not like across
2426s all rounds right um and so I'm glad to
2428s hear you know in your mid- round buys or
2429s in some cases maybe it's a character
2432s Synergy of course the snipers like uh or
2434s like characters that really Vibe with
2435s snipers like Jet and chamber do see it
2438s but I can see it on like Soo with a chip
2440s with chipping from a shock Dart or like
2441s you know a variety of other stuff so uh
2444s we're pretty happy with the outlaw um I
2446s would say and I think it's getting its
2448s you know having its time in the Sun but
2450s also people are you know see what it's
2452s used for and then sometimes you know oh
2454s this is not a good time for an outlaw
2455s you know and I think that's the kind of
2456s spot we want to get to with Arsenal you
2458s know situational and some are just going
2460s to be really versatile like you know
2461s your vandals and Phantoms and that's
2463s kind of where we're at with it
2465s yeah right that's very interesting so we
2468s also released two new agents in 2024
2470s Vice and clob how's Vice doing compared
2473s to other Sentinels yeah yeah I can take
2475s this one um so for uh so for vice uh I
2478s think generally the character is
2479s released pretty well pretty balanced um
2481s for the most part um we'll still have to
2483s kind of see how the other Sentinel
2485s changes shake things up like if Cipher
2487s um if Cipher's kind of give some space
2489s for vice to exist in the ecosystem um or
2491s if Sage is going to start eating some of
2492s that space um we do think Vice could use
2495s a little bit of a tuneup uh particularly
2496s on her brambles um so we'll be taking a
2499s pass at some brambles and some other
2500s light quality of life stuff soon uh
2502s that'll be in patch uh 9.11 similar to
2504s the neon Nerfs um but overall I think
2507s they're doing really well um for a clove
2511s um we're really happy that everyone has
2513s been enjoying clove that they've been
2515s you know that there's been yeah everyone
2517s actually everyone super popular yeah ton
2519s of people everyone in rank is playing
2521s clove yeah I mean um but yeah clove is
2524s really really strong in ranked and
2526s they've continued to be one of the
2527s strongest characters the game has really
2529s seen in ranked in general um so we're
2531s going to have to be taking a pass on
2532s clove to try to try to trim some of that
2534s rank performance and kind of close the
2536s gap a little bit between really
2537s organized play and ranked play for clove
2540s um so that'll be coming out sometime in
2541s the new Goa so in addition to adjusting
2544s Sunset we also introduced a new map
2546s Abyss where we have players accidentally
2548s and purposely falling off the map can
2551s you provide some insight on what your
2552s goal was for the map and why it was
2554s designed that way yeah um for Abyss uh
2557s when we were designing it we were just
2558s coming off of a few uh more standard
2560s Maps we had Pearl Lotus sunset uh we
2563s wanted to do something a bit more
2564s experimental you know push the
2565s boundaries of what our Maps can do or in
2567s this case remove them um you know by
2570s removing those boundaries it kind of let
2572s us create more unique spaces on the map
2575s and those unique spaces then afford
2576s agents to kind of use utility in new
2578s ways we see uh and we've seen a ton of
2580s cool plays uh throughout the year from
2582s players you know jets flying off the map
2584s to land a sick blad storm kill and Omens
2587s teleporting across gaps into like uh
2589s smokes for sneaky plays uh you know
2592s breach and raise right like they can
2593s knock people off of the map um and I
2595s think in that way the map you know was
2597s really successful we got players you
2599s know to think about this utility that
2600s they're really familiar with um in new
2603s ways um you know we're monitoring the
2605s map uh as with all new maps you know
2608s they're we're always when we launch a
2610s map we don't think that it's like
2612s completely done you know it's always
2613s going to need a little bit of uh work
2615s over time and you know we're keeping eye
2617s on
2618s that all right cool so we actually have
2621s a few questions from the chat from hicha
2623s uh what were the main ideas on removing
2626s the omen one ways because feel like that
2628s was the main differentiator between him
2630s and other controllers yeah yeah I can
2632s answer this one um so for removing the
2634s omen one ways we kind of felt like it
2635s was another dominating reason that you
2637s would pick Omen other over other
2640s controllers especially like the highest
2642s uh levels of play um and one of the
2643s things that's difficult about you know
2645s being a balance designer on the game is
2646s that we always have to balance for both
2647s regular play and kind of professional
2649s play right um and with uh with manen's
2653s paranoia that was kind of the other
2654s option right it's like obviously you
2655s want to probably Nerf one of those two
2657s things and paranoia is one of those
2659s abilities that is really accessible for
2661s strategy for tons of different players
2663s right like everyone in all levels of
2665s Premiere can be like hey Omen go
2666s paranoia this place whereas the one ways
2668s are a little bit harder to get value out
2670s of and we knew we could kind of remove
2672s them without nerfing him in ranked as
2674s much and he's already honestly not that
2676s great in ranked for the most part um so
2678s that was kind of a concession um we'll
2680s still have to assess whether or not you
2682s know this worked whether or not you know
2684s uh Omen did lose any of that kind of
2686s like dominating high level Choice
2687s structure um and I can't really commit
2691s to anything yet but we have been testing
2692s some kind of fun prototype things for
2694s Omen to try to lean a little bit more
2696s into manen's fantasy
2698s um so hopefully those work out I'm
2700s really excited about them personally but
2701s um it's still a little bit too early to
2702s really commit to anything concrete here
2705s sweet we also have another question
2707s about the shields will there ever be a
2709s heavy regen from Soul
2714s Eater yeah that's also for me um that's
2718s kind of a question where it's like H we
2720s haven't really thought about that yet um
2722s I think we'll have to kind of assess and
2724s see how the light uh you know light
2726s regen Shields the regen Shield workout
2729s with with the way they're tuned right
2730s now and kind of see you know is there
2732s space for that in the shop that's kind
2734s of what Nick's point was talking about
2735s with the outlaw earlier is whenever
2737s we're adding something to the shop we
2738s want to make sure there's kind of space
2740s and a reason for this kind of thing to
2742s exist uh and it's like oh there doesn't
2744s need to necessarily be a onetoone
2745s comparison between every piece of
2747s shields or armor utility or whatever
2750s gotcha we
2752s said soundsol though yeah it could it
2755s could I mean who knows it could be show
2758s for sure who knows all right well thank

2863s time we have like a more than a day for
2865s that but right now I have to do
2867s everything as quick as possible that's
2869s why uh it's so hard for me and I already
2873s swe like because it's like you see like
2875s I did five five options you did five
2877s Concepts yeah and right now guys please
2881s please pick one and you can help me out
2884s just to continue and finish it out I
2886s hope I hope but I I I can say like I can
2889s do I'm not sure can I do it 100% uh and
2893s you can see the the final version but uh
2896s I will do my best and I'll try uh to
2899s make it as close as possible to the to
2901s the Finish awesome and we're going to be
2903s taking a look at those poll results as
2905s they come in um but as we go you know
2907s like through the year sage and Omen have
2909s been actually going on quite a few
2910s Adventures this year if anyone is
2911s following our like um narrative story as
2915s we're saying you know we're we're
2916s talking through like there's a lot going
2918s on um manen's gone on his own personal
2921s journey and Stage alongside him um and
2923s that's that's how they found Vice and
2925s brought her to join um the team and so
2928s it looks like the winner has come in uh
2931s number three hiding in the ceiling man I
2935s really like number one but number three
2937s that has won so without further Ado we

2943s then let's talk about how we release
2944s valerant on Console this
2952s year right so we welcomed a lot of new
2955s players in 2024 since we released valant
2957s on Console we're here with Ally and Eric
2959s who worked on making this come to life
2961s can you introduce yourselves hi yeah I'm
2963s Eric Woo I'm the engineering manager on
2965s the console gameplay team and and I'm
2967s Ali Murdoch I am a gameplay production
2970s manager and team captain for console
2972s gameplay thanks so much for joining us
2975s here today let's just get right into it
2977s valerant on Console what were some of
2979s the challenges about bringing the game
2981s to the do both these new platforms we
2984s could be here for hours talking about
2986s the challenges honestly there's really a
2988s lot I mean the whole studio had to Pivot
2991s to like help support these efforts like
2993s and and everything down to even like our
2996s release processes um like on Console
2999s there's this thing called certification
3001s where you have to send in your console
3003s build to Microsoft and Sony so that they
3006s can evaluate and make sure that the
3008s players are safe and we love them for
3010s that they're they're making sure our
3011s players are safe um and they they check
3013s a variety of things and so you have to
3015s make sure that you meet all of these
3017s requirements and so because of that we
3019s had to like buffer in time for console
3022s and on the gameplay side there's really
3024s a lot of challenge with it because of
3026s how
3027s limited um the button options are
3031s compared to PC you have a whole keyboard
3033s on PC on Console you have like what 10
3038s button it's really not much and so we we
3041s spent a lot of time iterating on the
3043s controls making sure it still felt uh
3046s good to you know click heads and have
3050s those like um precise aiming moments and
3053s um and then also just making the
3055s gameplay actually feel like valerant
3058s because it's like so action-packed um
3060s but console like you're just so limited
3062s with the joysticks and and everything
3065s yeah I think that's one of the harder
3066s challenges is we have 20 plus live
3068s agents already players have gotten to
3069s know them from you know years of
3071s valerant being available and we really
3073s want to make sure that the console
3075s players get to have that same age in
3076s fantasy so there's like a lot that goes
3078s on with ensuring that the things that
3079s you can do that are really cool on PC we
3082s want to make sure that you get to
3083s experience that on Console as well yeah
3085s I mean and as we're already talking
3086s about now right it's like valerant now
3090s multiplatform what is that just like now
3092s developing at the same time right like
3095s well it's incredibly challenging as you
3098s can imagine um like I mentioned I mean
3100s valerin is live right so we've got
3101s millions of players all around the world
3103s and they expect the game to be up and
3105s running they want to be able to play um
3107s and so for us uh we're constantly
3109s working in areas that are you know
3111s shared spaces things like agents uh UI
3114s weapons movement things like that are
3116s are it's it's super important that we
3118s keep on top of mind that we don't you
3120s know muck and break the the main game um
3123s and so we have a lot of processes that
3124s we have to develop we've got uh cross
3127s team collaboration communication even
3129s our play tests like we have console play
3131s tests we have PC play tests um and
3134s honestly after all the console play
3136s testing that we did I thought I'd be a
3137s lot better at the game than I am now but
3139s um all these things kind of come into
3141s play when just making sure that like we
3143s want to make sure that the game is
3145s stable um but that we do what we need to
3147s do and make the necessary changes to
3149s ensure that the uh console gameplay side
3150s of things feels right so what are some
3153s of the similarities we've seen from
3154s players in the game on console and PC
3157s yeah there's actually quite a lot that's
3158s similar so looking at the agents right
3160s now um just like on PC some of our
3163s highest pick rate agents are Raina clove
3165s jet they continue to be super popular um
3169s one of the interesting things is we're
3170s seeing uh Sage for example be slightly
3172s more popular but one thing to keep in
3174s mind is that our console players are
3175s still you know going through process of
3178s unlocking the the agents and like you
3180s know figuring it out for themselves what
3181s they like to play um and despite the
3184s fact that console's only been out for
3185s about 3 months I mean we started to see
3187s dramatic Improvement in the game play um
3189s our players head shot percentages are
3192s going up and they're starting to come in
3193s line with PC I wish I could say that was
3196s true for me as well um same it's it's
3199s it's hard and so um and we're also
3202s seeing that like console accuracy
3204s actually started off a lot higher um
3206s than on PC and that's cuz players are
3208s not spamming as much they're not
3209s pre-firing as much but as they pick up
3211s these habits um we're kind of seeing
3213s those players skill levels increase um
3215s and and it's great to see that things
3217s are kind of leveling out you know now as
3219s we're we're talking about aiming right
3220s on Console one of the unique things
3222s that's actually on valerant console is
3224s the focus mode right for those who don't
3226s know it's the kind of in between aiming
3228s system that's exclusively on consoles
3230s between hitfire and ads that allows you
3232s to essentially access another
3234s sensitivity so you can say pull off you
3237s know dodging flashes I haven't done it
3239s yet but that's fine and also aiming
3241s precisely this is a key feature of
3243s valant console right and you typically
3245s don't see something like this on games
3247s between PC and console so what was the
3249s process in developing this super cool
3252s thing H it was it was honestly a long
3256s process like we tried uh a lot of
3258s different prototypes and um there's a
3261s variety of things that we do throughout
3263s development to like validate and really
3265s honestly challenge our some
3267s and make sure that we are on the right
3269s track um getting that player feedback
3271s along the way and so um shout out to I
3274s do want to say shout out to research um
3276s our research team Tony um they they
3279s really help us to understand like what
3281s we need to be doing um as we go through
3285s and so we tried a bunch of different
3288s prototypes for various different things
3290s even one that we called Soft ads which
3293s is like you know when you say it's the
3295s in between that's immediately what I go
3297s to that was the internal Dev name
3299s designers might kill me for saying that
3301s but um that was one of our early
3303s prototypes and it was something that we
3305s had just on pistol that would like Zoom
3307s slightly and um just give you like a
3309s slight field of view change and um
3312s really like it wasn't until the game
3314s analysis team got spun up and we were
3316s seeing them play and just noticing that
3319s you're you're sort of like missing those
3320s like Ace moments on console and we
3323s realized like we needed a more holistic
3326s um
3327s system to like address um basically this
3330s this need to both move quickly and then
3333s also aim very precisely and slowly um
3336s which is something that's really hard to
3337s do with a joystick um like you just
3341s can't it's really hard watching the game
3343s analysis team play is is honestly it's
3345s impressive like it really starts to blur
3347s the lines between all the platforms I
3349s had no idea that any of the things we
3351s were watching were even possible on
3353s Console like early iterations were
3355s fumbling around like trying to slowly
3357s look down to dodge a flash like taking
3359s these 1 V2s was basically impossible you
3362s know watching them play and watching
3363s them actually test out um focus mode in
3366s its current state uh it was kind of an
3368s eye- openening moment like everything
3369s really came together very quickly kind
3371s of close to the end of development um
3374s and it was a it was really a cross- like
3376s Studio effort to make this happen I mean
3378s the gameplay team um was working on the
3380s actual Tech we had folks working on the
3382s visuals and all the updates necessary
3384s and and this is something that doesn't
3386s exist on PC and it kind of goes back to
3388s the prior question of like how do we
3389s make sure that we don't accidentally
3391s break the entire Focus system or all of
3394s the adsing uh Tech while trying to
3396s introduce something that's brand new and
3398s so uh super proud of the team with where
3400s we landed I mean we got it out the door
3402s and and we ended up um with something
3404s that I think feels uniquely valerant
3406s yeah cool so I'm actually curious um on
3409s Console are we seeing players with like
3411s a higher sense because they have to
3413s dodge things more
3414s quickly yeah so like on Valor and you
3417s have these like 50/50 moments where you
3419s have to look both ways or if you want to
3421s like turn a flash you really want that
3423s like high sensitivity so that you can do
3424s that quickly um which is why we want to
3427s do Focus mode because we were like well
3429s you can't have a high sense and then
3430s still aim and still click heads like
3433s those things are very much at odds with
3435s each other so um in order to get that
3438s like um that's why we decide to do Focus
3440s mode and we didn't want to just do like
3443s changes to ads we wanted to keep the
3444s game similar to PC like we wanted to
3446s still feel the same and so um it
3449s definitely was a challenge for us to
3451s make sure that we like you know threaded
3453s that needle properly and um that's why
3456s we end up just being like all right
3458s let's just do Focus

3805s and so much fun
3806s and I was like oh I've just followed
3809s this guy on Instagram and he's followed
3811s me back and he's like really good at the
3813s game um let me message him and see if
3816s he'll play with us so I technically slid
3819s into his Instagram DMS and said uh fancy
3823s playing with a couple of noobs sometime
3825s and then I woke up the next morning to a
3827s message a very lengthy it was that long
3830s with lots of emojis it was that long uh
3832s being like Oh my God I'm so glad you
3834s messaged yes please so would you like to
3837s watch some movies on Discord sometime I
3839s went straight in wow my God yeah he did
3843s and then that just that just shows how
3844s bold valerant players are you know just
3846s like truly yeah you have to shoot your
3848s sh I mean being a radiant main he did
3851s live up to many other radiant with
3853s having a very big ego um so you know
3858s wait that was that you said past tense
3859s was you me was that meant to be past 10
3861s no you still do but um yeah the rest is
3864s history really we kept speaking and then

3871s mean you guys have been playing since

4011s content creators do you ever
4013s collaborate we do we do a lot of stuff
4015s together I mean we work a lot with uh
4017s valerant UK iie and their socials and
4020s the EMA side of things um so if we're

4024s together or uh we both have separate
4027s orgs that we work for and if they're we
4029s if they're ever like competing against
4030s each other we'll work together for stuff
4032s it's do you remember the I think our
4034s best thing we did was um we did a co-
4039s stream together because I'm with na'vi
4041s and you're with fnatic yeah so and they
4044s were playing against each other in quite
4045s an important game during the league so
4048s we actually moved our one of our setups
4050s into the lounge and had like a
4053s a WWE yeah it like a WWE thing and we
4056s did a video for it and like and it was
4058s great because my because fnatic won 3 so
4062s it was a really great enjoyable watch

5248s Esports hey guys I'm M I'm head of
5250s competitive Ops for valerant Esports
5252s nice to meet you guys as if we didn't
5255s meet already we talk every
5258s day all right let's talk about 20124 how
5261s did it go yeah 2024 was insane for us um
5264s it was a record-breaking year uh it was
5267s the very first year we had VCT China
5269s show up all of our International leagues
5271s really popped off so really happy I
5274s think across the board for the sports we
5276s introduced a bunch of new stuff we
5278s introduced you know Swiss uh as a format
5281s for our events uh live draw shows the
5284s MVP segment at Champs that you saw pick
5287s thems and clients and game team capsules
5289s there's a bunch of great stuff and um
5291s we're excited to build upon that going
5292s into next year and Champs specifically I
5295s mean that that's really the peak of the
5296s year for us and uh we just recently
5299s announced that we reached over 9 million
5301s Peak viewers for that event which is
5303s absolutely insane absolutely ins yeah
5307s yeah champs was amazing I mean we had
5308s EDG face off against Heretics u in a
5312s banger of a best of Five series um Going
5315s the Distance with all five Maps right
5316s EDG of course took home the trophy um in
5319s a super close series Kong had a goated
5321s performance um to really cement himself
5324s right as the face of VCT uh and
5326s especially in China he broke the kills
5329s record for for a match uh competitive
5331s match so um super exciting champions for
5335s sure for sure I mean it's it's insane
5336s that it's their first year right I mean
5338s it's it's um uh first year of VCT China
5342s officially in that region and really the
5345s fans turned out for it too right the EDG
5347s team capsule the bundle in game was the
5349s bestselling one in the world I got mine
5352s you you got your I made sure to get mine
5354s limited
5355s edition um so yeah big thanks for
5357s everybody out there for supporting the
5359s teams and um uh and really kind of
5362s carrying a lot of momentum going to next
5364s year yeah you know we just kind of
5366s chatted about it a little bit but you
5367s know the Esports digital goods were such
5370s a huge part of VCT this year right how
5373s did they actually make an impact to you
5376s know the entire uh BCT ecosystem yeah
5379s we're super super excited about um how
5381s it's been performing and how it will
5383s continue to perform going forward um we
5385s had two really big ones this year one
5387s like we mentioned the team capsules with
5389s all partner teams and um visual slot
5392s teams uh having representation in game
5395s and then of course Champs right the
5396s Champs bundle always pops off it's
5398s always one of the best in the year and
5400s these two things combined really helps
5402s us support all the pro teams in the
5405s scene um these two things combined this
5407s year I think combined for over $44
5410s million shared to our proteins wow which
5413s is an insane number very happy about
5414s that um but you know that's not the only
5417s kind of way we support the ecosystem we
5420s also pay out you know team stipend um to
5423s our our teams and then price pools of
5426s course when you add all of all of it up
5428s it's it totals more than $78 million
5430s just this year uh for our for our pro
5433s team so we're absolutely committed right
5435s to the success of valer Esports um and
5437s we're uh pretty
5439s happy cool so we also had the game
5441s changers Championship R recently how did
5443s this event go from your perspective yeah
5446s great I mean also insane right yeah I
5449s said the word insane a few times um but
5451s yeah it was the most watched GCC of all
5453s time uh almost half million viewers Peak
5456s uh the highest level of competition also
5457s that we've seen in GC I mean the skill
5459s level is is never been better um team's
5462s been prepping more than before uh more
5464s than ever really and it kind of showed
5466s in in game yeah definitely and who can
5468s forget Flor too she really popped off
5471s this season uh especially at the event
5473s she was unanimously voted as the game
5475s changers Championship MVP uh and uh if
5478s you guys have seen recently we're super
5480s excited to welcome her as the first game
5482s changers player ever to be picked up by
5484s an i team with Apex Andia so we're super
5488s excited to see her play next year um
5490s it's going to be it's going to be an
5491s amazing season I'm picking up the Apex
5493s bundle like immedately yes there you go
5497s me too um but yeah to 's point you know
5499s it's it's a it's a really big moment for
5501s us really across the GC ecosystem we've
5504s always aspired for men and women to
5506s compete together on the big stage right
5508s and um it hasn't really happened to date
5510s at the tier one at the iio level so to
5512s see Flor take the step it's a wersh
5514s moment for us um in a lot of ways a
5516s Pioneer right so um definitely can be
5519s tuning in to VCT Mia to see her click
5521s heads yeah absolutely absolutely and
5523s then also we have Spotlight series you
5524s know going on right now too which is
5526s Grand finals grand grand finals is in
5528s like an hour right yeah so we are raing
5530s them right after this so again make sure
5531s to stick around because like the last
5533s Spotlight series we did in Amia was like
5536s hype as heck so I'm super excited for
5539s for this to come back uh and you know
5541s looking at the a recent announcement
5543s that we just made believe earlier this
5545s week or in the past couple weeks about
5547s the changes coming to VCT next season uh
5550s can we talk a little bit about the
5551s philosophy about why we're making these
5553s changes for VCT 2025 yeah totally um
5556s that's a good question you know one of
5557s our core goals uh here on valerent and
5559s valerin Esports is to better align the
5561s sport with the game right we really feel
5564s like what you are watching on stream and
5566s watching what your Pros are doing is
5568s what you can go home and do for yourself
5570s right and showcase what you can do try
5572s to do yeah try to do of course yeah um
5575s so you know we want to Aspire to get
5577s that as close as we can get right um so
5579s extending the calendar really allows us
5581s to better align balance changes um map
5585s rotations and new content releases uh
5587s which is super exciting for us and you
5589s know the game team has been a really
5590s good partner with us um as we work to to
5592s get that as close as we can um you know
5595s we recently released a video um also
5598s just outlining that in more detail you
5600s know talking about map rotations and all
5601s that kind of stuff so check it out yeah
5603s so fracture is is coming back we have
5606s that confirmed so take a look out for
5608s that not only in VCT but also in game
5611s yep that's right um and you have to own
5613s to your point like it it's really about
5614s the fans for us can we create something
5616s that um will land with our fans and
5618s players that mirrors their experience in
5621s game with what they watch at the big
5623s stage um and if we can create these
5625s higher Peak moments for them um across
5627s the year if we can make sure the games
5629s are actually meaningful have Stakes um
5631s and then we keep all of our pro teams in
5633s the hunt for longer across the year
5635s especially for teams that you know in
5636s the previous years haven't had the
5638s opportunity to play deep into the season
5640s and if you're a fan of those teams you
5641s know you just kind of lose interest in a
5643s lot of ways right so we're trying to
5644s address all of that going to next year
5645s yeah we really think higher density
5647s matches um of you know really high
5649s quality and games that really matter are
5651s important to us and you know that's why
5652s fans tune in because they want to see
5654s their favorite players and their
5655s favorite teams you know get deeper into
5657s the season so we want to make sure that
5659s we can focus on doing that for everyone
5661s in our ecosystem um and you know the
5663s other thing to uh in 2024 fans thought
5666s that you know our format might be a
5667s little bit too complicated you know we
5669s talked to a lot of pros and a lot of the
5670s teams to get their feedback um so we're
5673s making a lot of adjustments to make it
5674s easier to understand at any point during
5676s the season right whether you have lapsed
5678s and you want to come back in or you've
5680s been a fan for and and watching every
5682s single moment all year we want to make
5683s sure that it's easier for you to
5685s understand and really you know dig in
5687s yeah so since you mentioned Pros how
5689s does this impact teams and Pros yeah
5691s that's uh that's also super important to
5693s us too right our Pros or what carry our
5695s sport um you know we really want to
5696s simplify qualification mechanics we saw
5699s last year that there were a lot of
5700s tiebreakers involved and a lot of things
5702s that made it confusing to know hey what
5704s am I playing for and what am I going to
5705s do next um and so we really wanted to
5707s simplify that we're also expanding our
5710s stage playoffs to eight teams which we
5712s think is super important big yeah
5714s that'll be really big you know to your
5715s point about keeping teams in the hunt
5717s longer uh and keeping you know Pros
5719s fresh and uh yeah fresh and on their
5721s toes um expanding that so that they have
5724s better chance to qualify for for Global
5725s events we think is going to be big um
5727s and then also the other thing our stages
5729s are going to be self-contained right so
5730s in 2024 uh if you remember records
5733s carried over from stage one into stage
5735s two to qualify to Champions and that's
5736s no longer going to be the case so stage
5738s one is going to be self-contained and so
5740s is stage two so you know really pros and
5742s teams get a chance to reset um and and
5745s really you know make a good run to
5747s towards uh the next Global event yeah
5750s for sure that balance is important right
5752s like giving fans something to watch
5754s across the year and uh making sure they
5756s have something to consume year long uh
5758s all year long but at the same time
5760s making sure that the schedule is uh
5762s reasonable for pros and teams because
5764s they have to take time to kind of relax
5766s and recharge um if they want to make
5769s roster changes and or or kind of
5770s redefine how they want to play certain
5772s metas like that's that's something we
5773s want to give teams the ability to do so
5775s balancing these two things is is quite
5777s important for us um and yeah in 25 I I
5780s think I think it strikes quite a good
5782s balance um but we'll see you know um
5785s yeah we always welcome the feedback of

5813s reworking the points this year um we
5815s think you know in 2024 points really
5817s served its overall purpose uh main goal
5819s is to get the best 16 teams to Champions
5821s and I think you know we did that um but
5823s there were some notable areas of
5825s improvement that we think we really want
5826s to focus on um so you know people really
5828s feel like these are meaningful for for
5830s everyone right so one um we want to make

5839s escalation from the beginning of the
5841s season to the end of the season right so
5843s uh we're really rewarding Peak
5845s Performance at the right moments during
5846s the season and also really rewarding
5848s teams that are getting better throughout
5849s the year um and then the third one also
5852s is we want to maintain Stakes uh for
5854s every match during the year right so you
5855s can see that we still have uh a point
5857s per win during the regular season and
5859s then it escalates as we go um and
5861s getting into more you know tournament
5862s based formats absolutely all right so
5865s 2025 is looking very exciting for VCT
5867s fans but what are you most personally
5869s excited about there's a lot uh there's a
5872s lot to be excited about I think um it
5874s it's hard to not start with our kind of
5877s tent pole events right our masters
5879s Masters one Masters two and Champs we
5881s have Bangkok coming up in Feb and March
5884s um and then we have of course Toronto uh
5886s in the middle of the year and then
5888s Champs Paris to cap it all off so I mean
5891s those events are going to be insane I I
5893s personally am super excited about uh
5895s going to Paris um it's G to be it's
5898s going to be crazy and then of course the
5899s roster moves a lot of new rosters a lot
5901s of returning rosters um so curious to
5903s see how those pan out especially in
5905s Americas you know so about me too Paris
5907s is going to be big um you know I'm super
5909s excited uh that we're bringing Masters
5910s to my home country of Thailand from
5912s Masters Bangkok um I spent a lot of time
5914s there growing up as a kid so I'm super
5916s excited um to experience the love that I
5918s have for the city again and share that
5920s with our fans you know um Thailand has a
5922s thriving valerant Community um and we're
5924s really excited to bring that to the
5926s global stage uh so that folks can you

5958s Americas I want to see the new NRG see
5960s how they play out Sentinels now that got

5969s the competitive person it's a little bit
5970s of spicy question I really shouldn't say

5974s shouldn't but you know the script hasn't
