What's the point of (non-Contender) PREMIER?

What is the point in playing Premier when your team is not in Contender? Since according to the FAQ (and another post) you do not climb divisions by winning the Playoffs, so simply, what is the point of playing Premier at all when your team is not Contender? Since the division is entirely reliant on the average MMR of the team. (which I think is a stupid idea, especially for Premier).

In my opinion MMR should dictate the first division a team is placed in, and that the teams could compete for positions in the higher divisions (i.e. by winning playoffs), thoughts?
