13s | I brought my authentic self, that’s the son of Punjabi and Sindhi immigrants. |
17s | That’s who I am and that’s what I brought to Harbor. |
25s | Hey, I’m Sunil Malhotra. I’m an actor and I play Harbor in VALORANT. |
30s | I’ve been an actor for coming up on 24 years. |
33s | Like on TV and the movies, in commercials and absolutely video games. |
39s | I was certainly excited, I have a relationship with Riot. |
43s | I’ve played Akshan in League Of Legends. |
45s | For this character too, it was just sort of a very instinctual feeling of like, Oh! I know him. |

57s | What I really latched on to about Harbor is he is very much a big brother, and a mentor to the team. |
64s | Those roles were something that I absolutely identified with. |
68s | He’s a badass and can ride a motorcycle and shoot things, and so like I'm catching up to that. |
73s | I kinda wanna do that. |
74s | There is a strength to him, and it comes out in different ways. |
78s | So sometimes it’s really loving, sometimes it is a ferocity that comes out as the badass soldier that he is. |
86s | And it was really fun to experience both of those viscerally. |
91s | Harbor is such an awesome character because we don’t see badass brown characters. |
97s | It's so rare to see a character like him in a game that you get to play, you get to be him. |
107s | So what I love about voice-over acting is that I’m not constrained at all by my physicality. |
113s | There is a freedom to be found in that. |
116s | Also, the challenge is, how do I find my ability to use physical gesture through my voice. |
124s | I recorded in my wife’s closet, because pandemic times. And so that was very challenging. |
130s | You know, each character, each project has a different challenge to it and I love that. |
137s | I don’t fight for myself, I fight for my team. |
141s | We won’t win every fight, but when your moment comes, take it. |
148s | Storytelling is ingrained in Indian culture. |
152s | It is very much in our DNA. |
155s | For me to have just a small tiny part of that legacy, and that history, I’m very honored by it. |
