In all honesty, I rather he was a Warrior Priest or something else. Not because Kruber is an Imperial Soldier suddenly changing his race to Brettonian.

But because a Grail Knight just isn't a Grail Knight unless he's on his horse 23/7. Yeah knights can get off their literal high horses to swing their swords around, but their entire appeal is trampling enemies of the Lady on horseback.

If I had to make a guess, I think Kruber isn't really a "proper" grail knight to justify him not being as overpowered as one in-game. He could be like a grail pilgrim, only instead of stalking some unfortunate grail knight everywhere for scraps of their glory and discarded equipment like some fanatical bottom-feeder, Kruber was somewhere in Bretonnia when he came across the jackpot: a lone, freshly-killed grail knight surrounded by dead foes and with all their gear relatively intact.

Feeling it a tremendous waste to let all the poor bastard's shiny kit go to waste, Kruber decides to take up the dead knight's arms and armour, intending to sell them for a good amount of crowns when he returns to Empire lands. Something along the way, a woman's voice in his head convinced him to wear the pilfered gear to battle, however, and as time passed, Kruber's new kit begins to influence his body and mind, making him stronger, bigger, faster, and more becoming of a chivalric knight of the realm... but he's still no true grail knight, since he never sipped from the Grail. Besides, Kruber is not eligible for grail knighthood for plenty of reasons -- he's merely a pretender, but a very convincing one at that.

All this means Fatshark can skimp on the voicework and let him keep his old voicelines, while avoiding pissing off the grognards and lore enthusiasts too much.

Edited for clarity and extra detail.

Well, not to spoil things but, Hah gotcha. :D We'll speak more to this story soon
