We are just so close from reaching 555M, it would be a shame to not make it.

I'm convinced that these counters are not accurate, they are pre programmed and the reward is guaranteed. They've done these a few times and it always seems to finish near the end, but estimating these sorts of things is always very difficult so I dont believe they just picked the perfect number. Of course, it doesnt make any difference, and I wouldnt say anything just curious if anyone else has any input?
It's fair to think that, and usually (but not this time as it goes) there is a contingency plan. For Vermintide 1, we did a similar event using different telemetry. It was extrapolated from a sample of end of game reports. By all accounts pretty accurate, but not to the dime. We just multiplied the telemetry by 10, since we only captured 1 in 10 games. The same telemetry was used to guestimate what players would finish within the allotted time frame, rounded up usually. I updated that counter manually every few hours. It was exhausting. But the data was legit. We had the option to adjust the multiplier but it wasn't needed and actually came down to the wire, I think the challenge was finished in the final hour. (it was a 4 day event if memory serves)
For V2 though all clients report back their kills to the counter on round end. There's some protections and blacklists that work against people trying to report false data. But the data is 100% from game clients finishing maps. For the two we've run in V2, that data has been automatically placed in to the web counter and in-game 'news ticker' counter, a live feed essentially. We're totally hands off, I promise :)
Is there anyway of adding something in game to see how much we're adding to that tracker?
It'd be fun bragging rights for friends to show that we've added 1mill rats to the event each.
There's probably a way, but getting the implementation time might be tricky! The count goes through the same backend service where progression is stored, so we'd just need to increment a figure there and have the game display it in some fashion. I'll dig.
I get that it's a low tier priority, so even if it's something you look to add to Darktide in future as an enhancement :)
It would also advertise in game, the fact that this event is on and that your actively contributing towards something. Could be a win-win scenario.
Maybe a Standard or something that gets placed near Lohner or the Mission board.
For Darktide we have already discussed this, we're afforded the luxury of screens in-game with that IP, so stuff like this becomes all the more immersive.
