They don't.
If you manage to shot/launch your ammunition (server registered moment of it), it stays on battlefield until hit something (or fly away outside map - whole map, not only map visible as minimap).
You can check it by yourself in any server replay.

Login with your game account. Launch game and stay in hangar. Alt-tab to replay site. Find replay you want to check, launch it on site and alt-tab back to game. You will see server side replay of whole battle.

Popular misconception - my shell disappear when I die comes from lag between you and the server. If server did not recorded your shot and you died right after (because for you - 0ms ping, 0%PL you manage to shot, but for example you had 60ms delay to server) it still possible you will see, that you shot (client side), but in reality, you did not manage to do that (because delay between you and server was higher than time between your shot and your dead).

It's same for all online games (that use server side calculation, which is lik 99% of pvp games).
