In September, 76 years ago, Fw 190 D-9 production began. The Fw 190 D series was created for high altitude bomber interception by fitting a new engine resulting in a long nose. In August, 77 years ago, Deliveries of F6F-5 fighters to the Royal Navy began. Around 1300 would serve the Fleet Air Arm under the name "Hellcat Mk II".
