Hi, welcome. You need to be looking at the penetration value of rounds. The higher the number, the more pen. There's several different rounds that do different things.
The after-effect of penetrations are also important. For example, an APHE or APHEBC round will penetrate a tank, and then explode inside of the tank, killing all crew. APDS and APFSDS rounds pen and do a lot of pen damage, but don't explode in the tank, they use kinetic force and shrapnel from the rounds to do damage. HEAT-FS or HE explode on the surface of the armor, and penetrate that way.
Hovering over each round will show a small visual clip on the tooltip of exactly that round works.
