Try to either get on a flank, or in a hull down position where you can take a ranging shot (if not sure about the distance) and quickly back down to hide. Other than that, remember that the greater the distance the greater the miss. closer its ok to be a bit off, but a bit off at 1.4 km can result in a big miss.
