| 22s | had is not the same |
| 24s | anymore so what's my beef my beef is |
| 29s | that Elgato is using some very clever |
| 33s | marketing strategies to try and get me |
| 37s | to buy more things and I hate companies |
| 40s | that have that kind of behavior because |
| 42s | I find it very manipulative and I don't |
| 44s | enjoy that if I've purchased a product I |
| 46s | bought it because I thought it was |
| 48s | valuable and I don't really appreciate |
| 51s | then being forced into creating an |
| 54s | account in order to continue using |
| 57s | something that I've had for many years |
| 59s | and now no longer does what I needed to |
| 62s | do out of the box so the problem that I |
| 65s | have with stream deck software is that I |
| 69s | use it for OBS OBS is my streaming um |
| 72s | program of choice I've used others and |
| 75s | at the moment what I'm doing I I use OBS |
| 77s | to record YouTube's content all the |
| 81s | YouTube content that I create I I use it |
| 83s | for when I'm streaming when I stream |
| 85s | every once in a blue moon uh my life is |
| 87s | very busy uh but what I found now with |
| 90s | the new version of the software is it |
| 94s | comes with only |
| 96s | streamlabs out of the box and I have a |
| 98s | problem with that because you notice on |
| 100s | their website this is the homepage of |
| 102s | their website I don't see a streamlabs |
| 105s | is this a streamlabs logo no that's the |
| 107s | that's the Elgato logo is is this a |
| 110s | streamlabs no that that's that's an old |
| 112s | Twitter logo I'm pretty sure they've |
| 113s | changed their logo haven't they they |
| 115s | call themselves like be or something I |
| 116s | that know uh oh there's a twitch logo |
| 118s | okay not sure what this one is oh |
| 120s | there's a YouTube oh look there's OBS |
| 124s | front page h i mean it's an old picture |
| 128s | it's got an old logo for a company that |
| 130s | doesn't exist anymore so maybe okay |
| 133s | maybe they just haven't updated this and |
| 135s | and they do think the streamlabs is more |
| 137s | important what the okay so OBS is first |
| 140s | in your list and then you've got |
| 141s | streamlabs so here we've got below the |
| 144s | fold and above the fold the first two |
| 146s | things that a person sees when they go |
| 147s | to your website can you notice I'm a |
| 148s | little bit passionate about this when |
| 150s | the first thing a person sees when they |
| 152s | go to your website is support for OBS |
| 155s | and yet you don't have it out of the box |
| 156s | now why is this a problem this is a |
| 158s | problem |
| 159s | because if you want to add it it's not |
| 162s | the old plug-in system which was all |
| 165s | inbuilt you could just switch to the the |
| 168s | plugins Tab and then you could pick the |
| 170s | ones that you want and it was great now |
| 173s | you have to use the |
| 175s | marketplace so if you want OBS you have |
| 179s | to create a Marketplace |
| 182s | account and not only that when they take |
| 185s | you to the marketplace do you notice |
| 186s | here there's no OBS nothing on the front |
| 189s | page so they make it as inconvenient as |
| 192s | possible so that you are forced to |
| 194s | scroll through and get eyeballs on all |
| 196s | the content that you have no interest in |
| 198s | so I've got to physically search for OBS |
| 202s | and I find OBS and I think oh great here |
| 204s | it is this is exactly what I want barid |
| 206s | is also a really good one if you haven't |
| 207s | uh if you do still use the Elgato |
| 209s | software uh can't recommend them enough |
| 212s | so I go here and then I say okay I'm |
| 214s | going to get it excellent I can just |
| 216s | download this as a file yes yes I can |
| 219s | just download this oh we got to wait |
| 223s | no I cannot just download this I have to |
| 226s | create an account I have to give them my |
| 228s | email I have to give them my password |
| 229s | not only that they also want to know |
| 231s | what my currency is and you know all |
| 234s | that information that is purely |
| 236s | marketing driven and I don't appreciate |
| 241s | that kind of behavior from a a company |
| 243s | especially a company that I've used for |
| 246s | many many years I find it manipulative |
| 249s | and that immediately puts me off I'm |
| 251s | just I don't know if it's a generational |
| 253s | thing but I'm really sensitive to that |
| 255s | kind of Loy and I notice more and more |
| 257s | companies are doing that and it just it |
| 259s | immediately puts me off and it actually |
| 261s | it makes me a disloyal comp uh customer |
| 264s | for them which I'm sure they don't care |
| 266s | about cuz I I've just got one product |
| 269s | they won't be so sorry to see me go but |
| 271s | anyway so why am I going on about this |
| 273s | because recently I had to change to I |
| 275s | had to change it was forced it was held |
| 277s | at gunpoint and said you must change cuz |
| 279s | I'm not impressed with Windows anymore |
| 282s | holding it Windows Ai and I've decided |
| 285s | to make the jump to Linux so in my |
| 288s | journey into learning Linux CU I'm new |
| 292s | to it as of this year and there are |
| 295s | obviously problems when you've got |
| 296s | programs and you've got Hardware that |
| 298s | was one of the things that always |
| 299s | prevent Ed me from making the switch cuz |
| 302s | I don't have Linux versions of a lot of |
| 305s | things like the Elgato stream software |
| 307s | is Windows only I don't know if they |
| 309s | have mac support wouldn't be surprised |
| 311s | if they didn't cuz you got to pay for to |
| 313s | anything development side for Mac you've |
| 315s | got to pay for licenses and I'm sure |
| 317s | elot is like oh no we could save money |
| 319s | we don't have to pay |
| 321s | um a little bit bitter let's just say |
| 325s | that uh I've also got a go XLR um TC |
| 328s | Helicon which doesn't |
| 330s | have um Linux support there's a lot of |
| 334s | things that is you have to do it in a |
| 336s | janky way on Linux so there was always a |
| 338s | concern for mine |
| 341s | however I have been pleasantly |
| 345s | surprised by this little company right |
| 348s | here bit Focus um and their program |
| 351s | called |
| 353s | companion this is in my opinion superior |
| 357s | to the Elgato stream deex software it is |
| 361s | uh designed for professional Productions |
| 364s | and presentations so it it hooks into |
| 368s | Hardware that I don't even know what it |
| 369s | is I see it in a list of things and I |
| 372s | have no idea what that stuff does uh but |
| 374s | it plugs into everything including OBS |
| 377s | it's no problem it's |
| 379s | free um you do obviously need to sign in |
| 383s | for something which you might then say |
| 384s | Oh but here then why why are you upset |
| 388s | about giving your details to this little |
| 390s | company but you you you're not upset |
| 392s | about this company but you are upset |
| 393s | about giving to Elgato it's because |
| 394s | Elgato is manipulative this is just a |
| 397s | small little company who says you don't |
| 400s | even need to give us you know any money |
| 403s | we're going to give this to you for free |
| 405s | because we think it's really useful it's |
| 407s | created by people who are passionate |
| 409s | about what they do you know it's a small |
| 411s | Indie company should we say anyway this |
| 414s | has been absolutely fantastic I'll give |
| 417s | you a quick uh glimpse of this is just |
| 419s | me setting it up I haven't spent a lot |
| 421s | of time uh getting my stream deck set up |
| 424s | because at the moment I'm I'm still |
| 426s | trying to get Linux working for a lot of |
| 428s | things I can't get it working for gaming |
| 430s | oh the last nail in the windows coffin |
| 433s | is gaming on Linux and I swear to God I |
| 436s | will figure it out eventually but for |
| 438s | now I've got to I've got to use it in |
| 440s | both a little bit of Windows and a |
| 442s | little bit of mostly Linux but um yeah |
| 445s | anyway I digress so I've got I've got |
| 447s | the old stream decks and mine's got 15 |
| 450s | buttons when you first see the software |
| 453s | and you go to the admin dashboard you |
| 455s | you probably have like the I think it's |
| 456s | the the largest stream deck how many |
| 459s | buttons they have and then you can add |
| 461s | your own buttons in I think normally it |
| 463s | sort of looks something like this um so |
| 466s | you've got you know it comes with an up |
| 468s | button and a down button you can use |
| 469s | those buttons to switch between the |
| 472s | pages so you notice 99 Pages got 99 |
| 475s | pages but a ain't one and I've got |
| 478s | well I've added a few little things of |
| 479s | cust a little bit trying to see what I |
| 481s | want to do um I don't have an icon on |
| 484s | this button because I have actually got |
| 487s | a little bit of burn in happening on |
| 489s | that button on my stream deck because |
| 491s | it's been the same button for probably |
| 494s | like 4 years now and it's got to a point |
| 497s | where it is finally starting to burn in |
| 500s | I'm not quite at the point where I need |
| 501s | to replace my stream deck but I can tell |
| 503s | you when I have to I am not buying |
| 505s | another one because yeah not happy |
| 509s | Elgato |
| 511s | um so what have I got on here I've got a |
| 515s | a few buttons just to handle the stream |
| 519s | uh my twitch stream basically so I've |
| 522s | got a button here called Hider this is |
| 524s | in case I've got to do something and I |
| 525s | need to offis scate it like if I got to |
| 527s | I don't know enter a password you know |
| 529s | that kind of stuff and you don't want to |
| 530s | put it on your your stream so you just |
| 532s | hide the screen so this then triggers a |
| 537s | uh in my OBS scene which I've called |
| 540s | stream and I have a source called Hider |
| 543s | and then I can toggle it so I press the |
| 544s | one button to show and the same button |
| 546s | to hide you can also set a delay if you |
| 548s | want to so maybe you push the button and |
| 550s | then you wait for 2 seconds and then it |
| 552s | does something um so when I uh press |
| 556s | this button I can test it here so when I |
| 558s | test this you're going to see a massive |
| 560s | koala on the screen there it is and I |
| 562s | click it again and it goes away so |
| 565s | you'll notice maybe maybe not so much |
| 567s | with this one but we'll we'll show you |
| 569s | this one cuz this this overlay is a |
| 570s | little less uh offis scating so when I |
| 574s | press the button have a look at this and |
| 576s | you'll see that the color |
| 577s | changes and you can customize this so I |
| 582s | can do whatever I want I can have what a |
| 584s | text I like I can change the color I |
| 586s | have it Go Green when that scene is |
| 588s | active just because sometimes you know |
| 590s | you go into an AFK screen and then you |
| 592s | forget when you come back and then |
| 594s | somebody says stick at your AFK screen |
| 596s | wrong wrong scene you these are very |
| 598s | helpful people that are always mock when |
| 600s | they tell me that I've done something |
| 601s | wrong because I'm |
| 603s | defensive but this like the so the |
| 605s | button you can have a bright green to |
| 607s | just sort of scream at you and say no |
| 609s | you got the wrong scene you dumbass so |
| 612s | you know that's very useful and then |
| 613s | I've got you know other buttons for |
| 615s | other things as well so I've only got |
| 617s | the four buttons so far um oh no no wait |
| 620s | I do lie I do have another button um are |
| 622s | you ready for it I'm going to let me |
| 624s | show you what oh I should show you from |
| 626s | here shouldn't I uh this is my favorite |
| 628s | popup of all time |
| 634s | fantastic so I can organize things so I |
| 637s | do a lot of pop-ups on my stream you |
| 638s | know just sort of I guess it's the genic |
| 640s | version of meming where we just have |
| 642s | scenes from movies and stuff that's |
| 644s | that's my my thing that I've always done |
| 647s | so I can have all of my different popups |
| 649s | on here but the fact that I've got so |
| 650s | many pages and it's so convenient to |
| 652s | just sort of switch between them um but |
| 655s | you will notice also if I go back to the |
| 659s | AF okay screen here so if I um don't |
| 662s | click on anything I'm going to push the |
| 664s | button on my stream deck itself and it |
| 667s | does the same behavior you know so the |
| 669s | button goes green um it's a little bit |
| 672s | hard to see isn't it cuz I've got my |
| 674s | overlay anyway um actually I can very |
| 678s | very quickly let me let me let me do |
| 683s | this and then when I push the button |
| 686s | there you go so you can see the text is |
| 687s | appearing here I've just got rid of the |
| 690s | the background so then the button goes |
| 692s | green turns off and you can customize |
| 695s | all of that it's |
| 696s | fantastic so this I'm actually going to |
| 699s | use bit Focus companion on the Windows |
| 702s | side as well so when I am streaming |
| 704s | games and I can't do that on Linux yet |
| 707s | I'm going to be using this I'm going to |
| 708s | uninstall the stream deck software |
| 710s | itself because screw them manipulative |
| 713s | business practices I am not a fan of |
| 716s | anyway that's my rant if you have |
| 717s | survived the 12 minutes of it congratul |
| 719s | ations you don't get anything for it but |
| 722s | I guess you get a little bit of |
| 723s | knowledge |
| 724s | hopefully maybe you can go forth and |
| 726s | help a fellow streaming friend or a |
| 729s | non-f fellow streaming friend maybe your |
| 730s | streaming your favorite streamer let |
| 732s | them know bit Focus companion is an |
| 734s | alternative if they use the Y go stream |
| 736s | deck and uh it comes highly recommended |
| 739s | from hist because I'm sure they care |
| 741s | about |
