I thought for sure they would make it an augment. Nice that it's folded into the base ability.
Having to hold the button down the whole time would be a real pain though, so it would be nice if it were 'hold to activate bubble, tap again to release'

It is the latter, you don't have to Hold whole time, just hold to cast the alternate state.
