| 171s | to work with their clinicians and |
| 174s | researchers to raise money to find a |
| 177s | cure for cancer in our lifetime so and |
| 180s | we know that October is breast cancer |
| 182s | awareness month so we are very excited |
| 187s | we have a lot to talk about |
| 190s | um I think the first thing we should do |
| 192s | is introduce Princess Margaret Cancer |
| 195s | Center hello princess Merkin Cancer |
| 197s | Center this is in Toronto so very close |
| 200s | to us we've been there we've been there |

| 205s | got invited to actually tour the center |
| 207s | which was uh honestly |
| 211s | I think it was it was very emotionally |
| 212s | charged it was it was a lot it was a lot |
| 215s | um but I think equally as equally |
| 218s | emotional as it was it was also very |
| 220s | important for us to see why these types |
| 222s | of things are so important |
| 224s | um to see what your donations and our |
| 228s | participation as the Warframe Community |
| 229s | what that does uh to places like the |
| 233s | princess murder cancer said Margaret |
| 235s | cancer center and how it can help people |
| 238s | and |
| 240s | um yeah it is the top five cancer |
| 244s | research centers in the world and we |
| 246s | actually have a very very special guest |
| 250s | with us Steve merker hopefully hopefully |

| 287s | cow over 250 million sorry 250 million I |
| 290s | wish 250 000 that your community has |
| 293s | raised in the past couple of years and |
| 295s | I'm looking forward to this year but uh |

| 302s | Margaret Cancer Foundation and Quest To |
| 304s | Conquer Cancer is another way that we |
| 306s | engage the community in just a really |
| 308s | great way to help support the cancer |
| 310s | research that's taking place here at |

| 315s | don't worry we'll we'll do right by you |

| 323s | think we had you on the video and you're |
| 324s | right by your fireplace do you remember |
| 326s | that I remember I was feeling nice and |
| 328s | cozy I do remember that yeah it was |

| 332s | we're so um happy to have you on |
| 338s | on the Princess Margaret Cancer |
| 339s | Foundation is honestly astounding |
| 342s | um being able to visit like we did last |
| 344s | year and hang out with you and the crew |
| 346s | was really really special and I know |
| 349s | this year we really wanted to |
| 352s | discuss why uh donating to a foundation |
| 355s | such as yours is so important so a big |
| 358s | part of uh this month in October is to |
| 363s | educate |
| 364s | and explain what you guys do and why |
| 367s | it's important so |
| 369s | um I don't know if you wanted to speak |
| 370s | to that we do have a video prepped but |
| 373s | before we get to that video you can go |
| 375s | ahead and speak on that Steve well first |
| 377s | of all I wanted to thank Danielle you |
| 379s | and Megan for coming up here to the |
| 381s | Princess Margaret last year that was a a |
| 383s | great visit and even though covid was |
| 385s | still sort of you know going on you guys |
| 388s | came up to Toronto you had the tour you |
| 391s | got to meet some of the the researchers |
| 392s | and doctors who are benefiting from the |
| 394s | funds that your community has raised |
| 397s | over the past couple of years so I |
| 398s | wanted to thank you two for your |
| 401s | outstanding leadership and in supporting |
| 403s | our cause and |
| 404s | um with uh October being breast cancer |
| 407s | awareness month it's so important to |
| 409s | continue our fundraising towards breast |
| 412s | cancer and all Cancers and you know some |
| 414s | of the things I I think if I recall that |
| 416s | you you may have learned and I'll just |
| 417s | I'll be quick because I know your |
| 418s | community wants to you know they want to |
| 420s | hear from you not from me but I but I |
| 422s | but I think it's it's important for for |
| 424s | them to hear how the money is is being |
| 426s | put to use and two things in particular |
| 428s | I like to highlight there's this new |
| 430s | process that our our researchers are |
| 432s | working on it's called a liquid biopsy |
| 434s | or I guess to simplified it'll be like a |
| 436s | blood test and what it is is it's the |
| 438s | ability for our for doctors to detect |
| 441s | like pre-cancer so just think about when |
| 444s | you go in to see your your GP and you |
| 446s | have a normal blood test and if they can |
| 448s | detect in your bloodstream that you have |
| 451s | like stage one pancreatic cancer uh then |
| 455s | when you have stage one pancreatic |
| 457s | cancer there's actually things that the |
| 459s | researchers and doctors can do about it |
| 461s | badly with pancreatic cancer it usually |
| 464s | doesn't have any symptoms until it's |
| 466s | stage four which is usually too late for |
| 468s | a lot of people who present with |
| 469s | pancreatic cancer so this is just one |
| 471s | example of the researchers work that's |
| 474s | going on here Princess Margaret one one |
| 476s | of the other things which I'm also |
| 477s | excited about is immune therapy so |
| 480s | that's activating your own immune system |
| 482s | to fight cancer answer years ago doctors |
| 485s | couldn't figure out why your immune |
| 487s | system didn't fight cancer it was like |
| 489s | there was a secret handshake you know |
| 491s | I'm sure you guys have secret handshakes |
| 492s | in your game somewhere but there was |
| 494s | like a secret handshake between cancer |
| 497s | cells and your immune system and so what |
| 499s | we've been able to figure out is how to |
| 501s | unlock the secret handshakes or your own |
| 503s | your own immune system would fight the |
| 505s | cancer and so it's not like the |
| 506s | old-fashioned chemotherapy which would |
| 508s | devastate your entire body or your you |
| 511s | know it was just devastating for the |
| 512s | patient so immune therapy will not you |
| 515s | know make you lose your hair and be |
| 517s | nauseous all day long for weeks and |
| 519s | weeks on end so that's another thing |
| 521s | that's a game changer for patients who |
| 523s | sadly get diagnosed with cancer so |
| 525s | immune therapy and this liquid biopsy |
| 527s | test there's two of the fun things that |
| 529s | are being funded by the work that uh the |
| 532s | whole Warframe Community is funding |
| 533s | that's incredible that's insane I mean |
| 536s | as |
| 538s | um I won't Linger on this too long but |
| 540s | Steve hearing you talk about finding |
| 543s | um solutions to outside of chemo |
| 548s | um having had uh relatives my mom my |
| 552s | grandma I know most of the people |
| 554s | watching have probably had relatives |
| 556s | friends loved ones go through chemo and |
| 559s | to see how devastating it is and how |
| 563s | much of a toll it takes on them to know |
| 565s | that there are other options being |
| 567s | researched |
| 569s | for something that's not as |
| 572s | harsh is so like that peace of mind is |
| 576s | so great and I think the importance of |
| 580s | early detection as you mentioned Steve |
| 582s | is really something that |
| 584s | um having a focus on and being an |
| 586s | advocate for yourself and your health |
| 588s | and you know |
| 591s | um having a foundation such as yours |
| 594s | really push for that is just so |
| 596s | important so that's something we really |
| 597s | want to focus on for us this year as |
| 600s | well is and this October is really just |
| 603s | make sure that you're taking care of |
| 605s | yourself get that early detection in and |
| 608s | you know the donations that come through |
| 611s | for this month will be put towards such |
| 614s | incredible things that you just |
| 615s | mentioned |
| 616s | um and also a bunch of uh wonderful |
| 618s | things that we'll actually see in this |
| 621s | uh video that we're going to play just |
| 623s | in a minute here but I think we just |
| 625s | really wanted to thank you Steve for |
| 627s | coming on as you know you have done in |
| 630s | the past years and just sharing what the |
| 633s | team over at Princess Margaret is doing |
| 635s | and how incredible you guys are and we |

| 732s | a concept because many times when you |
| 734s | paint something you have to try |
| 736s | different things with this light work |
| 738s | with the shade work and it's similar in |
| 740s | science you have to try different things |
| 743s | but you also need to have an ability to |
| 746s | step back and say is this really |
| 748s | answering the question |
| 750s | science takes so much great activity |
| 754s | it is really important for a scientist |
| 758s | to be a free thinker you have to build |
| 760s | on what other people have built because |
| 763s | science goes this way you learn |
| 766s | something you learn something you learn |
| 767s | something and the whole field is stuck |
| 769s | until someone makes a new invention it's |
| 774s | it's those groundbreaking thoughts that |
| 776s | help us |
| 777s | grow faster |
| 780s | some examples in Princess murder in the |
| 782s | past of the discovery of blood stem |
| 784s | cells the cloning of the T Cell receptor |
| 787s | the feel of cancer immunotherapy and |
| 789s | today we have breakthroughs in liquid |
| 791s | biopsy we can monitor cancers before |
| 794s | they become apparent on x-rays or the |
| 795s | patient's symptoms that stimulates a |
| 797s | whole field of work not just in one |
| 799s | cancer not just in one domain but |
| 801s | blossoms out into a much larger |
| 803s | worldwide effort Princess Margaret is a |
| 806s | very unique environment and we've got |
| 808s | chemists and imaging people and surgeons |
| 810s | computer scientists all of whom are |
| 812s | collaborating and all of whom have a |
| 814s | singular Vision Conquer Cancer In Our |
| 816s | Lifetime it really does take new ideas |
| 819s | and creativity to think of the next big |
| 822s | thing scientists have a privilege of |
| 824s | making their real impact on people we |
| 827s | need people to be trying outside the box |
| 829s | trying new things by donating you help |
| 832s | accelerate the pace of innovation which |
| 835s | has a direct impact on cancer patients |
| 837s | and the best way to achieve impact is to |
| 839s | focus your given the best |

| 1193s | going through very difficult treatments |
| 1195s | we have not only do we have the flu but |
| 1198s | we do also have that lovely blanket that |

| 1205s | some of them even like knitted blankets |
| 1208s | and hats so that was definitely the |
| 1211s | inspiration there for that so not only |
