Heyo Skyfaller and everyone else,

First of all, thank you for the feedback on Sub mechanics so far, I'd like to take the opportunity to address some of your concerns.

Just a quick reminder that Sub mechanics and vital related numbers are WIP and subject to change and adjustment

Regarding the Ping Mechanic:

The ping mechanic is "game-y" because funnily enough, World of Warships is a game. While we do take historical circumstances into consideration during the design and development process, concessions do have to be made to ensure ships and classes are fun to play and have a role within the game. Landing pings while at close range (<5km) is relatively easy, but so is landing shells and torpedoes at similar range, but considerably harder the further the range increases - something even CCs attested to in the recent testing cycle. The "ping" system acts almost as a skill check, something that is considerably more interactive than your suggested "Look at the targeted ship for X period of time" to engage a homing mechanic. The currently developed system also builds upon the known and established mechanics already in the game (grey torpedo lead), and is intuitive to learn in game. Unfortunately your proposed system adds complexity without much in return in terms of benefit.

Regarding their damage factors (these are still being adjusted) they have the potential to do varying degrees of damage depending on the competence of their captain and how they choose to engage with the "ping" mechanic. Damage increases depending on how many "pings" the captain lands on their targeted enemy ship.

Regarding Team Play:

Submarines have ample opportunity to provide valuable team benefiting mechanics including:

Spotting

Flanking

Dislodging camping enemies

It is once again, up to the Captain of the submarine itself to utilize the Submarine characteristics to make it happen.

We already have this available in game, any player can look towards another ship and hit "F3" to indicate to their team that they would like focus fire on that target, however it is up to allies to make the judgement whether to fire on it. It is not practical nor fun for one player to determine what the entire team should be shooting at. Changing the buff characteristics of the enemy ship, while also receiving buffs in the process furthermore would lead to unfair factors and imbalance.

The other factors suggested would put the submarine in a primarily supportive role in which would be very dull to play, and in some cases the proposed mechanics would lead to massive imbalance for those facing against the submarine.

I glanced through the thread, however it wasn't particularly clear if you had had the chance to play in the recent test sessions, if not I would highly recommend giving it a chance when you can before making a concrete opinion,

Unfortunately these tags do not have the ability to be automated so that would rely on a community staff to manually add them which is not the best use of staff resources.

Fem,
