Why is there no point to making these? Can you elaborate a little bit on your point?
The models that are in the game are awesome and take a good amount of time to make, it is only right to celebrate their looks.

Please consider we do have different teams with different focuses which does allow content and development to happen cohesively. For example, you definitely don't want the bug fixers to take a stab at ship design, or say, the historical department taking the helm of balance. While production will continue on visual content (YT videos / etc), our bug teams will also be hard at work resolving issues within the game, as the community teams will continue to be here for community matters.
Have you seen for example a challenge I put out for the community for T4 ships?
We will hopefully have some other events/campaigns around these tiers in the near future.
