Thanks for the vote of confidence in the intelligence of Wargaming employees. I assure you that everyone who works for the company that makes this game understands how spotting from altitude or at sea works.

you may recall a time when aircraft DID spot things from exceptionally long ranges. So much so that destroyers in particular we’re extremely hampered in their ability to fulfill their own spotting role and were focused down easily when a CV would spot them at 5-6km.

This was especially the case in competitive when teams had extremely close and coordinated communications.

So… because Wargaming employees listened to this feedback, the choice was made to reduce the spotting ability of aircraft when it came to DD’s. This allowed the destroyers to operate more freely and continue to fulfill their roles of spotting, capping, and area denial.

Because this is an arcade game, not a simulator. “Realism” often must take a backseat to pragmatism and balancing decisions.
